How many Marlins will go the the all star game?
I'll go with Castillo, Lo Duca, Lowell, Cabrera and a SP

Batting Gonzalez 7th or 8th?
Gonzo's OBP is too woeful to have anyone apart from the pitcher bat behind him. I think he should stay as the 8th hitter.

Is Delgado worth a 5 year deal?
He can still be productive in the fifth year...atleast it's not guaranteed.

Jason Stark @$$ kissing thread

2005 Odds
PhishPhan, Why are you even on this board? You're the most pessimistic poster here, by far. Give us a damn break... we've got the best team on paper in the NL East with Delgado. 667382 I guess he gets to live out his high school rebel fantasies on this board 24/7...

Jeffrey Loria
Loria = Best Owner the Marlins has ever had 667432 hehe unfortunately that doesn't give him enough props... This move and the signing of Pudge has shown him to be very serious about putting forth a competitive team year in and year out. Go Fvck yousrelf Huizenga, Henry There are no excuses, Everyone should be going to Fish games...this organization has done all it can.

Braves bullpen
They lost their two best bullpen arms so it won't be as good as it was this year, but it's still a pretty decent pen. It won't be the reason they don't do well.

Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...
Rotoworld mention the Yankees, Sox, and Astros as teams they would look to dump salary on. 665733 That 'exploitation' is hardly comparable to that of the Sox and Yankees using their enormous spending habits to nab players from other teams. The Yankees and the Sox CAN say no, if they aren't well-run enough to say no then that is their fault. Small market teams CAN'T compete with high market teams on a consistent basis. They can't win out a bidding war against a high market team. It's not even comparable. Baseball needs a salary cap, period. Without these crazy spend habits 1) The probability for overpaying for players drops substantially because you aren't bidding against teams that can overpay. 2) The competitive balance in baseball is much improved

Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...
Call me when the MArlins break the 75 million dollar payroll barrier. 665340 Im not talking about how much you spend, I dont care how much teams spend, it makes the quality of play better if there are more good teams. Im contending that it is hypocrisy if you small budget teams whine about the big boys, but when you need help to make your own big splash...who do you go to? The big boys? 665343 What are you talking about? Why exactly are the Marlins begging for help from the Yanks or Sox to sign Delgado?

Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...
I just want Encarnacion off the team. Call it hate if you like, but I don't think he's a productive player. All-world all-tool talent and 4.3 forty means nothing if you have the plate discipline of Randall Simon and the contact hitting abilities of Rob Deer. He's below-average at right, even worse as pinch-hitter (and you just know he'd be the first or second man off the bench). We are better suited with Aguila as our 4th outfielder, and another hitter (a cheap lefty Greg Colbrunn character would do) 'pressing' Conine. 665559 He only has this one season on his contract, he is overpriced but if ridding him means attaching some good prospect it just might not be worth it.

Best Guitarist Of All Time
Ever heard Eruption? 665218 Yes and many others, most of which sound the same. As far as pure guitar playing talent, he's a top 5 guy. Unfortunately his band's music wasn't nearly as diverse as most of the more acclaimed bands.

Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...
Just hear me out on this one: Stokes' value is at it's peak because he's an on the fence prospect who I think will be very good, but will be blocked if we sign Delgado (unless we try him as a left-fielder). Cabrera's not going anywhere, nor is Lowell or Lo Duca, and Hermida is the only untouchable in our organization, so you'd have to figure that in 2006, our team will feature Delgado, Cabrera, Lowell and Hermida...that blocks Stokes at just about any position...and it blocks Willingham too. Now, if we're in it at the deadline...Stokes and Willingham will have value, value that could get us just about any player available if we package them together...I mean, would you rather rid yourslef of Encarnacion and give up Stokes, or would you rather hold on to Encarnacion as motivation for Conine and a defensive replacement for any outfield position in close game, and make a run at Ben Sheets at the deadline? I think it's a no-brainer... 665043 Unfortunately that isn't how it works. Aside from the fact that there is nothing short of Cabrera that would land Sheets, the team in the race is the one that is at the mercy of others. If the Marlins wanted to land a top notch starter they wouldn't be the only ones at the deadline that would want to, there is no leverage there.

if encarnacion is not traded
Put Enc in right and Miguel in left. Encarnacion is a better defensive RF than Conine, he has a great arm. His offense shouldn't trail that of Conine's this year if at all. Conine will get his share of atbats and could possibly come close to being worth his contract. He could fill in for Delgado, Cabrera and Encarnacion.

Encarnacion and Stokes gone if...
There are good reasons on both sides The money issue shouldn't be the sole reason for trading Encarnacion. He only has one year, sure he's overpaid but is it really worth attaching a top prospect to save ourselves of one year over-valued contract? But then again Stokes' value is decreasing year in and year out, he might never be an MLB caliber player nevermind a star. We might be best trading him now. If we could snatch a decent prospect, hopefully a pitching prospect that has some chance of joining the MLB ranks within a year or so then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

25 players
25 players that should be hall of famers if they retired today (players that are still active) By position: C. Mike Piazza, Ivan Rodriguez 1B. Jeff Bagwell, Rafael Palmeiro, Frank Thomas, Jim THome 2B. Roberto Alomar, Craig Biggio SS. Derek Jeter, Barry Larkin, Alex Rodriguez, Omar Vizquel LF. Barry BOnds, Manny Ramirez CF. Ken Griffey Jr., Jim Edmonds RF. Gary Sheffield, Sammy Sosa SP. Kevin Brown, Roger Clemens, Tom Glavine, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz RP. Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman EDIT: removed Mussina, added Smoltz, Larkin and Hoffman 662255 Some of those players will be HOFers but now know like Bagwell, Thomas, and Thome. I'd take out Vizquel, Larkin, Brown, Smoltz, and Hoffman...Edmonds is a bit borderline but will more than likely make it so long as he stays healthy and has a few good seasons.

25 players
He'll be well over 200 career wins by the time he retires and is practically a legend for his performance in the 2004 postseason. I think he's a shoo-in. 662723 Well s***... I guess Livan is a first-ballot seeing as he was the NLCS and WS MVP in 1997... Schilling has less than 200 wins, no Cy Youngs, no ERA titles He wasn't near the pitcher that Koufax or Pedro were doing their prime, pitchers that well get in because of their dominance during a short stint. Schilling has been dominant of late, but not on their level.

Best Dressed Team in Baseball Poll
Got to go with the Yanks...perhaps the only team that actually cares about how they are dressed on the field...facial hair included...

A-Rod to Schill: Yanks motivated to `beat him up'
After the WS victory Schilling said something to the effect that they wouldn't have won had they swung the deal for A-Rod... A-Rod got busted but atleast he gave 100 percent on the play so to speak. Schilling is known for having a huge mouth and this is a guy that is a long shot to make it to the HOF
