Florida Marlins Twitter
How bout them Florida Marlins? Things are so good that we are even getting blurbs on Baseball Tonight. You'd better believe it takes a 10-1 start to catch the national media's attention (even Al Leiter has stopped beginning every Marlins segment with, "the fans suck down there". But what about when we lose a game and ESPN decides we are irrelevant again? There is now a Twitter page for life tinged in teal. Think BarstoolSports, except nobody here cares about Boston. We'll be talkin' bout JJ spotting his fastball, terrorist fist bumps, and Jamie Foxx's collaborative efforts with Miley Cyrus. Today is the big launch! Be an innagural fan. Potential Marlins/Lightning conflict on FSN Florida on April 18th
IM GETTING MARLINS PREGAME IN GVILLE!!!! all caps were necessary You should get 95 games in Gainesville. All FSN Florida subscribers should get at least 95 games. The extra 55 games (15 on FSN/40 on SUN) are the ones that not everyone gets. So are we (Gainesville) not part of those markets you were talking about earlier?

Do the people in Gainesville that have been going to Gator Dockside know if they get Fox Sports through DirecTV?

Marlins making it rain like Pacman Jones.
You really want a laugh? Go to the article's Palm Beach Post link and click on "click 2 listen". Nothing better than a robotic voice talking about the Marlins making it rain.

Relax guys, it's a cool puff piece. Smile and move on. I'd be right next to you if the Marlins were truly getting slighted, but that is just not the case in this instance.

Can we get some attribution on this one? Does "Page 2" mean ESPN's Page 2?

Gainesvile Marlins Fans
Since Cox did not carry the game in Gainesville, I went to Ale House. Apparently, they don't carry the game either since they only bothered to sign up for Sun Sports on Cable. I ended up finding a friend that lives in the Estates/Exchange. Since that complex provided TV via DirecTV, I was able to watch there. Thought this info may inspire a solution to someone's problem.

Cape, Seeing as I'm not entirely sure how the regions work with DirecTV, would you expect opening day to be broadcast on DirecTV in Gainesville? Thanks for the help.

Who did you guys email at Cox-Gainesville? Now that I'm seeing opening day is SunSports, the urgency has stepped up a notch.

"Free Battery Night" --- Quite possibly the worst idea ever Rich. You run the risk of Girardi getting pelted by Loria...I mean a fan.

What's in His Name?
I just read this article about our boy on Insider and thought you might enjoy it. Just the mere suggestion at the end that he could POTENTIALLY be mentioned in the same sentence as Kent and Sandberg speaks monumentally of Uggs and what he's accomplished this season. Anyway, enjoy the article. What's in His Name? By Tristan Cockcroft Every so often, a player comes along with a name so interesting, so unique, so colorful, that we can't help but root for him. This season, that individual is Marlins rookie Dan Uggla. He's one of the most overlooked first-year players of 2006, but lately, he's generating even more attention for his play than his distinct surname. Uggla (pronounced "UGG-la," or exactly as it looks) managed his first career multi-homer effort on Wednesday, hitting two and driving in five against the Giants. He's now the rookie leader in batting average (.308), hits (70) and homers (9, tied with Prince Fielder, Josh Willingham and Ryan Zimmerman), and ranks second in OPS (.842). Uggla is on pace for 26 homers, 99 RBI and 117 runs scored, numbers so good, they would help rank his among the best rookie seasons in baseball history. One might wonder how a player like this could have slipped so far beneath the radar. After all, he was only an 11th-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001, and not once in his five seasons in their organization did he crack Baseball America's top 30 prospects. In fact, Uggla was so overlooked that Arizona failed to include him on its 40-man roster this past winter, allowing the Marlins to snatch him away in the Rule 5 draft. Only then did he finally make Baseball America's list, as Florida's No. 29 prospect. But the truth is that Uggla is a gritty player, one who batted .278 for his minor-league career, topped 21 homers and 87 RBI in both 2003 and 2005, and registered an impressive .297-21-87-15 campaign at Double-A Tennessee a year ago. Plus, he was an Arizona Fall League standout, batting .304 with a .988 OPS in 29 games. It was the latter two performances that caught the Marlins' attention, and Uggla was fortunate that a team with an opening at his position happened to notice. Will Uggla be able to maintain an All-Star-caliber pace, statistically putting him in Ryne Sandberg and Jeff Kent territory? That's asking a lot, as scrappy players like this often wear down with time; think Clint Barmes this season. But for every Barmes example, there's a David Eckstein, a player who has made quite the living as that type. Uggla should be able to bat at least .275 and probably closer to .300 in relative obscurity in Florida, though 20 homers, 75 RBI and 90 runs seem much more realistic rates in those departments.

FSN launches "The Final Score"
See, if I were ESPN, I would combat this by doing the same thing but having it be 24 hours. They could constantly update the highlights all day, and people could go to this hypothetical channel anytime for live updates of highlights of whats making news in the sports world. In fact, they could call it ESPN News. I know it sounds crazy guys, but I think the idea has potential

Dontrelle's Free Agency
Ever since 2003, I have been under the impression that Dontrelle got called up before the Super-Two Deadline and went on to pitch the required number of innings to have '03 count as the first of his six years of the Marlins holding exclusive rights. Then today, I went to read Marlins Mailbag (link below) and read the following: "Willis is eligible for arbitration, meaning the team can keep signing him year-to-year, through the 2009 season. Many reports keep saying Willis is a free agent after the 2008 season. That is inaccurate. He is eligible for free agency after the 2009 season, because at that point he will have more than six years of MLB service time. The same with Cabrera." I can't imagine this is true, especially considering Dontrelle already received his first arbitration pay raise before this season, meaning (or at least I thought so) that we only hold two more years of exclusive rights. Thanks in advance for whoever offers some sort of clarification. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...t=.jsp&c_id=fla

Take the Punch in Face Poll
There are two people you can blame for tonights loss. Herges and Girardi, but both are faulted due to Herges. Herges gets the obvious blame for, well...being the spectacularly aweful player that he is. Girardi also gets the blame for needing to be beaten over the head by Herges' awefullness multiple times before realizing how truly terrible he is. Due to the nature of this dispute boiling down to Herges' terrible abilities whichever way you look at it, I award my vote to Matt "The Door Matt" Herges. May you forever be immortalized with the likes of Al Leiter and other illustrious Marlins whose time with our franchise concludes with an endnote consisting of a waiver wire transaction reading, "designated for assignment." At least there is tomorrow, though I am beginning to feel glutton for punishment. PS: This team is still pretty fun to watch.

Fantasy Baseball ?
Another thing to take into consideratin with the catcher position is the number of off-days these guys are forced to take. In Willingham's case, he has a chance to go well beyond the average number of games you get from a regular starting catcher because he may play a bunch in left field, a far less physically demanding position. An example of the benefit of a guy playing a different position while maintaining catcher eligibility was Brandon Inge the last couple of years. While his numbers tended to be average at best for a starting third baseman, he proved one of the best fantasy players at the catcher position, particularly considering how late he went in most drafts.

WBC Dontrelle Pictures
Last Sunday I happened to be in LA and was lucky enough to attend the USA vs. Japan game. Unbelievable experience. Crazy game to say the least. I can't speak for the opening round, but this particular round was fantastic. Anaheim Stadium is gorgeous; it certainly makes you wish for something better here in South Florida. Anyway, thought I'd share some of the picture I got of Dontrelle (and a few extra guys) @ the game. Unfortunately, I could not figure out how to directly post the pictures to the board, so here's my best effort. Enjoy.
