Rival

Featured Replies

Most definatly the Mets. Something that makes the Mets a rival more than the Phillies or Braves, at least in my opinion, is that a lot of New Yorkers live in South Florida.

The Mets could be because of the NY fans that live here, and the Braves due to their success, but our #1 rival is the Phils, way too much bad blood.

Phillies......at least in my book they are.

Braves-Marlins still has that sense of frustration for whomever loses the game.

Phils-Marlins is good as always.....they have been our longest division rival.

Mets-Marlins....seems one sided all the time.

Nats-Marlins....good games here too.

Marlins have a rivalry with everyone in the division, but the Braves still seem to be the closest games to me.

Thats what I think it is. Anytime I talk to Braves fans they always say we are one of those teams they hate to play during the playoff push because we always seem to win (which is exactly what I feel about the Braves.)

most definitely the Phils.... then Mets/Braves evenly... and there is so little of a rivalry between us and the Nationals i consider them a friend.

I dislike(hate is a strong word) met fans the most, but the team I dislike the most has to be the Phillies. They always seems to be right with us in the standings be it at the bottom or the wild card, and how can you forget the brawls and bad blood between the two teams.

I would have to say it's the Braves for me just because I know a ton of Braves fans and we are always talking trash to each other

I used to not mind the Braves that much, but there's plenty of Brave fans at UF, and you learn to hate the Braves over time in that environment.

It's gotta be the Mets for me. I think it goes back to the Bobby Valentine era, whom I just could not stand at all, and it's just kind of lasted over from that. Everytime I see David Wright or Jose Reyes I wanna throw my remote through the TV. Jeez, I can't stand the Mets.

That being said, I extremely dislike the other 3 teams as well; it's just I hate the Mets the most.

well put dude, totally agree

Phillies are definitely our biggest rivals. Our season (and theirs as well) always comes right down to the wire when we play them, so those games in september against them are always do or die. And who can forget the brawls (Gonzo vs. Tod Pratt).

Braves I mean they have some success and we have our championship rings. The Muts havent won any WS in years I cant reamber the last time Philly and the Nats were in the playoffs.

I would have to say phillies. They have ruined our season a few times. In 2001 they swept us in a 5 game series that basically ended the year. We all know what happened in 2004...

I give my vote to the Phillies as well. It always seems that when we've been in the hunt for the Wild Card, so have the Phillies. And as was just stated, we always play them at the end of the year, further intensifying the matchup.

Look at these stats:

2001: Marlins finished 10 games back of the Phillies, and 6 games back of the Mets.

2002: Marlins finished 1.5 games back of the Phillies, and 3.5 games AHEAD of the Mets.

2003: Marlins finished 5 games ahead of the Phillies, and 2.5 games AHEAD of the Mets.

2004: Marlins finished 3 games back of the Phillies, and 12 games AHEAD of the Mets.

2005: Marlins finished 5 games back of the Phillies, and even with the Mets.

2006: Marlins finished 7 games back of the Phillies, and 19 games back of the Mets.

We've finished behind the Phillies five out of the last six seasons, while we've finished behind the Mets only two of the last six seasons. It seems like no matter who wins the Division each year, the Marlins end up playing second fiddle to the Phillies in the Wild Card standings.
