Rival

Featured Replies

Mets, because their fans are close, whey receive undue attention and we're typically fighting for the same position

Nats come next, because of the whole Marlins/Henry/Loria/MLB connection and we're supposed to be the two lower-tiered teams in the division that frequently fight for records and positions ahead of the Braves, Philadelphias or New Yorks that take it for granted.

The only reason the Phillies would be rivals is because their fans are jerks, but that's only a reason to dislike Philadelphia fans.

What about having to battle the Phillies for four straight seasons in the Wild Card hunt?

Interesting thread. I've personally always felt the biggest rival of the Marlins is Atlanta although I suppose I get a bit of a different view as I don't live in Florida. The games against the Braves always seem to be important and devastating to the team who loses mid to late season. Plus, the Braves fans I know are never happy with the Marlin's post season success coming from the wild card spot.

I always think of the Braves and Mets as our biggest rivals, mostly because those are the only games I generally get to see the Marlins play against (TBS and SNY).

Are the Mets, Nats, Braves and Astros rivals then too?

In South Korea, No.1 MLB website is mlbpark.com

(Chan ho Park was very popular player in Korea, so it named mlb'park'.com)

Hm... I've registered mlbpark.com in 3 years.

There are lots of Yankee fan, Red Sox fan... (you know, they are worldwide favorite teams)

also some Rangers, Braves and Cubs fan is in there.

Originally, I didn't like Braves.

But, Some Braves fan interupted my Marlins game thread in 2006 (It was Marlins @ Braves game.)

They said, "Come on, Jake... one more DP"... I thought What the Hell is that??

you told that? Huh?

Meantime, I didn't have a ill feeling about NL east division teams

Since it happened, I HATE BRAVES and BRAVES FAN.

FOREVER.

:lol

I have no prblem with the Braves or their fans. Couldn't and still survive in PBC where they had their ST facility before they were the Atlanta Braves. I dislike Mets and Phillies fans alot so I guess they would be a tie for division rivals for me.

Let's not forget about the DRays. They are on that list somewhere. No matter what kind of a year each team is having, when they are in the same state as one another, they're rivals.

I already stated that I think the Phillies are our biggest rivals. I think after them, you go with the Mets. Eventhough, I think they are our newest rival, coming in the past two years. And third, I think you go with the DRays for the in-state bragging rights issue. Fourth goes to the Braves by default, and the Nationals are awarded fifth....for being the Expos in disguise.

The Mets.

I think the Mets are growing into our rival, more and more every season. Partly because of the fans, but mostly because of the on field matchups.

Jose Reyes and Hanley will be fighting for the SS All Star Spot for years to come. Miggy and David Wright are the 2 best young 3B's in the league.

I covet their outfield for the Marlins, and I'm sure Mets fans long for our rotation and pitching depth. I think these next couple years, it will be Marlins and Mets for the Division in September. The Phils can't possibly hold on to Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins contracts for that long. Some one will come by and take them.

I do think it'll be the Mets longterm, though.

As fans we should hate all the teams in the division.

As a fan, I absolutely hate the Mets the most, but for a rivalry to work, it has to go both ways and I don't think the Mets put us even in the same room with them.

Personally, I think the Phillies is the closest real rivalry as we hate them, and I know they hate us.

I don't think the Mets or their fans give two shits about the Marlins. I guess I understand the hatred for the Mets from Marlins fans as there are probably a bunch of transplanted Mets fans in Florida, but it is a very one sided rivalry.

Well, the Mets and Yankees play in the same city, so there is a natural rivalry. Sometimes I think the media really makes more of it than the fans, but yes, that is also more of a one sided rivalry.

I really don't treat the mets-Marlins games any different than I bust chops here a little because I know how bad you hate the Mets. But I honestly see the NL East in 2 layers competition wise: The Braves and Phillies (more so lately) and the Nats and Marlins on a second tier.

I'll add that I've gotten the feeling over the last couple years that the Cardinals are turning in to something of a rival... Anyone else get that feeling when we play them? I don't know what it is but emotions run high every time we play them it seems.

Ya I agree. I dont know if the marlins really have true rivals because they go from having a good team, to selling off everyone, and rebuilding, repeat. I think the phillies would be the biggest rival, however in terms of crowds, the braves and mets always draw well. Once we become consistant we can have real rivals.

I visited a Cardinals fansite before the NLCS and they were bringing up the "Mets are Pondscum" reference from '85. I think that was the last time before the NLCS I cared about anything the Cardinals said or did.

The Cards are a vanilla team. Boring coach, their players never say anything interesting, their fans sit there and golf clap. The most annoying thing about them is how the Cardinal fans are dubbed "The best fans in baseball". We're all fans, we all support our teams no matter what. Yeah, some fans may be more loud and some fans may be more reserve, but to say one fanbase is better than the others is ridiculous.

Actually, most Central Division teams (outside Chicago) are easy to ignore: the Twins, Royals, Indians, Tigers, Cards, Reds, Pirates, Astros. I couldn't care less if we were playing them. They are all pretty interchangeable.
