  1. Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but this thought just popped into my head thinking about his game-winning at-bat and his other clutch hits for us this year. Is anyone else really excited about the prospect of Brett Carroll winning the RF job out of spring training next year? Assuming Coghlan switches back to the infield: Ross - LF Maybin - CF Carroll - RF Best defensive outfield in the league? He has had some amazing clutch hits for us this year, and he's starting to show his power too. Really hopeful that he gets a shot and puts it all together.
  2. Awesome comeback! Suck sh*t, Lidge. Kudos to Fredi for making the right moves - pinch hitting Gaby, Gload and Carroll at the right times.

  4. Rockies lose. Marlins 4 games back in the Wildcard!
  5. Giambi & Atkins struck out! 2 out!
  6. Here they come ... goddamnit!
  7. Leo Mazzone FTW.
  8. OK, I'm done defending this hack. He leaves a wild Lindstrom in to face Rasmus even though Meyer is ready in the pen and Rasmus has absolutely stunk against left handers this year. Just another boneheaded, dumb move.
  9. A Mets sweep of the DH would be wonderful but highly unlikely. I'll take a Fish win and a 1-1 split with the Mets, at least we'll gain a game.
  10. And Wood was a problem, why? B/c he's not good. Yeah, his 2.20 ERA is terrrrrrible! You gotta love the blinded hatred by some people on this board. "It was a terrible move!" "Er, it worked" "Don't care ... I SAID TERRIBLE MOVE!!!" 16 innings! Bravo! He's one of our best relievers! Who needs Burke Badenhop when you have Tim Wood?? Lets just forget the fact that his ERA doesn't tell the whole story...with his 1.31 WHIP, and the fact that he's absolutely sucked with inherited runners. It worked out tonight. Sorry if I don't applaud the manager for the result. There were many more better relievers available to use in a tight spot in a ballgame. It's reasons like this why everyone yells at Fredi for overusing relievers like Kiko and Pinto. For crying out loud, make up your freaking mind. You can't use a top reliever in the FIFTH inning all the time. Our bullpen is overtaxed as it is.
  11. And Wood was a problem, why? B/c he's not good. Yeah, his 2.20 ERA is terrrrrrible! You gotta love the blinded hatred by some people on this board. "It was a terrible move!" "Er, it worked" "Don't care ... I SAID TERRIBLE MOVE!!!" Granted, he hasn't been in the bullpen all year and has pitched mop up sometimes but still, who else did you want tonight? Sarcasm dude. I was arguing with Erick who's blind hatred for Fredi will criticise any move even if it pays off. Wood was the perfect choice to use at that point.

  13. Yeah I agree, he's been much better this time around. The only thing that concerns me is his inability to go 5 innings on a consistent basis, he seems to run into trouble in the 4th / 5th each time out. Is it fatigue / what point of the season we're in? Is it a lack of focus? Whatever it is if he's to become a mainstay in the rotation he needs to go deeper.
  14. Hi all, Many of you may not know (or care ) that I'm actually Australian ... well, my favorite sport of all time is Rugby League. Some of you have probably watched "Rugby Union" at some point because it's more popular in other parts of the world, but let me tell you that League is by FAR more entertaining and tough than Union. The NRL will finally be shown in the US on Spike TV, I'm not sure if it's tonight or next Friday you will need to check your local listings. Check out Spike's promotional ad for the coverage: http://www.spike.com/video/national-rugby/3244734 I implore you to check it out, at least once... if you love entertaining and tough contact sports, you will not be disappointed. It's NFL on crack and without the pads. Let me know what you guys think if you check it out.

  17. If we lose to Redding, regardless of how the Hurk pitches, it will be embarrassing.
  18. He had a good few years with the Brewers. Like Rabb said, we have a habit at rebuilding pitcher's careers. Just an idea anyway.
  19. Chris Capuano pitched two scoreless innings for Rookie-level Helena in a rehab outing. Capuano has been fighting back from his second Tommy John surgery in May 2008. He has not pitched for the Brewers since September 2007. It's doubtful that he'll surface with the Brewers next month and he'll likely have to settle for another minor league deal this winter. Source: Rotoworld IF this guy is healthy, this is a low-risk / high-reward type of signing that we could use and he will certainly come on the cheap. It sucks that these are the type of pitchers we have to resort to because of our payroll, but I've always liked Capuano ... if he's healthy and the circumstances are right, we should go for it imo.
  20. Great game. SIT BONI Down start Wes Helms. Lol...at shortstop??? Cantu at Short Stop Wes at 3rd. No offense but do you have any idea about the game of baseball? You can't be serious...
  21. Let's hope today's happenings - on and off the field - kicks everyone's ass a little bit and we use it as fuel in the next month.
  22. Did anyone see Hanley in the dugout after the walk-off? He walked past Wes and hardly acknowledged him, I think he tapped Wes on his stomach and said nothing. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but when everyone else seemed very excited, it seemed like Hanley didn't give a sh*t.
  23. After the game, the Marlins optioned Volstad and infielder Gaby Sanchez to Triple-A New Orleans. They will recall two pitchers to reinforce a spent bullpen. "We always talk about mound presence with him and composure, and we haven't seen that," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "That's not a good sign, but he'll get that backÂ…It's not the same kid we've seen." For the fourth time in five outings, Volstad failed to complete five innings. Friday marked the shortest outing of his career as the Padres tagged him for six runs on six hits in the second. Three of the first four batters he faced reached on extra-base hits, including Kyle Blanks on a two-run bomb over the 434-foot sign in the Bermuda Triangle. That was the 27th home run Volstad has allowed, tying him with Josh Geer for second most in the National League behind Braden Looper (32). "I wasn't doing my job," Volstad said. "I haven't been doing it for a couple of weeks I guess. That's the way it goes. You have to perform." After watching Volstad walk the ninth and 10th Padres batters of the inning, Gonzalez yanked him. It's been a forgettable month for Volstad, who in five August starts went 1-2 with a 9.61 ERA. In his first full big league season, Volstad isn't suffering from physical fatigue. He's still 23 innings shy of the 175 1/3 he totaled between the minors and majors in 2008. "I don't feel tired when I run out there," Volstad said. "Maybe mentally I'm trying to tell myself that and really I am. I don't know." Burke Badenhop struck out six over 3 1/3 scoreless innings in what should be his last rehab outing Friday for Class-A Jupiter. He could make a spot start in Volstad's rotation spot Wednesday. The Marlins also have been linked to Brad Penny, who likely will clear release waivers Monday. He's becoming a more viable option as Marlins' starters continue to struggle getting deep into games. Volstad's outing makes 12 in 25 August contests in which a starter hasn't completed five innings. As a result, the bullpen opened the weekend having totaled 419 innings, tied with the Astros for third most in the NL behind the Padres (460 1/3) and the Dodgers (440 1/3). http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/florida-marlins/sfl-marlins-padres-gamer-082809,0,5724773.story
