  1. Ramirez is our starting SS. I really don't see how you can deny that, unless something really really drastic occurs. I dunno, I think it's 50/50 that he spends at least part of the year at AAA. He's certainly not trade-bait though. You think Andino fights for the position? Nope. Ramirez is way more talented than Andino. It's not even close. I don't understand why they rank Jacobs so low, especially after how much success he had in the majors last year. I'm surprised that they also didn't put any of the three pitchers we received from the Cubs for Pierre in our Top 10. Nolasco likely belongs there. I'm a big fan of starting pitching outweighing relief pitching, so I'm in agreement about Nolasco. But Mitre isn't a prospect anymore, and while Pinto has potential, he wouldn't break the top 10 in almost any organization, let alone the now-most-stacked organization in the nation. You are quite wrong about Pinto. Baseball America has him as the Cubs 11-12 best prospect in their organiation which isn't bad. Pinto would make the top 10 in alot of organizations like - Washington, Mets, Cardinals, Reds, Royals, White Sox, Padres, Giants, Yankee's, Phillies, Pirates and maybe Texas, Rockies, Astros, Tigers.
  2. My ideal bullpen with the reasources we have. Rudy Seanez Travis Bowyer Chris Resop Marcos Carvajal Chris Hammond Randy Messenger Byum Kim Mike Megrew We sign Seanez, Kim, Chris Hammond. Seanez to close, Kim swing man, Hammond lefty specialist Trade Ron Villone to M's Marcos Carvajal
  3. How would all of you feel if we trade Olsen for Gathright? Fine with me. You can never have too much pitching, but we are beyond that philosophy. Even without Olsen, we still have Petit, Sanchez, Vargas, Willis, Mitre, Nolasco and Johnson--all who will be ready now or at least before '07. Sanchez, Olsen, and a healthy Allison are the only guys in our farm system who have dominated in the minors and have #1 and #2 potential. Petit, Vargas, Johnson, Nolasco only have #3 potential.(Johnson maybe more cause of frame) and Mitre a 5. While Gathright is still a prospect as well more than 2 years older than Olsen, with no power, and a belowe average arm. But I guess we can only agree to disagree.
  4. Michael Megrew - S - Marlins Marlins selected LHP Mike Megrew from the Dodgers in the second round of the Rule 5 draft. The Marlins were the only team to pick two players. Megrew was the last player picked, but he's also the best prospect to go in the draft. The problem is that he's just coming back from Tommy John surgery. The Marlins could try to stash him away on the 60-day disabled list at the start of the year. I agree with them 100%
  5. Well with rumors that Seattle is interested in Ron Villone and that we where interested in the ex Rockies Marcos Carvajal who was recently acquired by the M's for Yorvit Torrealba. I say offer him back to them for Carvajal. If we can get Carvajal for Villone I will be thrilled.
  6. How would all of you feel if we trade Olsen for Gathright? Horrible. Actually how I would feel. But that is what it will probably take. Not what he is worth though.
  7. How would all of you feel if we trade Olsen for Gathright?
  8. According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox will pay about $11 million of the $29 million that Edgar Renteria is still owed in order to get Andy Marte. It's worth it. Marte is that good of a prospect, clearly the best that the Red Sox have had in several years. The Red Sox have told the Braves that they will keep the third baseman. He's so good the Red Sox are paying 11 million dollars of Renteria contract for him. Yet the D-rays don't think he is enough compensation for Julio Lugo. Again just pass on Garthright
  9. Bowyer or Resop Hopefully someone like Rudy Seanez
  10. I don't see where Gathright is said to be a good defender. Me neither. He's just a speed guy. If he walked more I'd be a little higher on him. Wonder if they'd take Mitre & Pinto... That sounds fair to me.
  11. I would NOT give up Sanchez. He is a number 1 potential pitcher and really a better spec then Hanely even. I would give up pettit 20 times over before Sanchez. His stuff isnt close to sanchez despite his control. I think we can get gathright for something else though some of the youngins like Thompson or winters. I would love you send them pinto and something for him. We shall see I guess. But we need just a CF and we should be mostly set with a few FA signings. I'm not sold on him, and the price does figure to be enormous (and you know someone will pay it for a guy who's as toolsy and young as he is). However, if we can find a way to get him without giving up Sanchez, Petit, Olsen, Volstad, Johnson or I guess Bowyer (since someone's gotta close) I'm fine with it. Given yesterday's Moehler signing, I'm assuming that Mitre is expendable... agreed and mitre could easily be good trade bait for them perhaps packaged with something. Thompson, West, Voldstad, Tucker, Winters, Marceaux or anybody taken in the 2005 draft can't be traded. Only as PTBNL but thats highly unlikely cause they will have to pitch have the season with us and then be sent over there to complete the trade. Just say no. Gut feeling he cost more than what the Cubs paid for Pierre

Given yesterday's Moehler signing, I'm assuming that Mitre is expendable... This guy has no power what so ever like Pierre and maybe alittle better arm but not by much. I was looking foward to someone with more pop and a good arm like Aguila. Trust me if we acquire Garthright we are gonna overpay. For christ sake they didn't trade Julio Lugo for Andy Marte.
  13. Garhright to the Marlins has Devil Rays raping us all over it. No to Garthright Yes to Aguila and Reed
  14. If anyone has a Scout.com membership, there's an interview with Uggla here... link Megrew could be a decent selection. Big soft-tossing lefty, maybe in the Mark Redman mold. Still only 20 years old too. The analyst on mlb radio was surprised that Kevin Howard didn't get selected. She was very intrigued by the Dan Uggla selection. Says that several scouts mentioned him as a sleeper. Thinks he could get significant playing time, if not even get chance to start. He tops out at 92-93 so isn't really that soft of a tosser. His best pitch is a chang-up though.
  15. I hope Beinfest is looking into acquring Castro from KC. For a mid level prospect or maybe Ron Villone
  16. High A Notebook compiled by J.J. Cooper July 14, 2004 Vero Beach lefthander Megrew proves looks and changeups can be deceiving BY STEVE MEGARGEE VERO BEACH, Fla.?Mike Megrew isn't a particularly hard thrower. He only looks the part. The Vero Beach lefthander casts an intimidating presence on the mound with his 6-foot-6 frame, but he doesn't possess an overpowering fastball. Megrew has emerged as one of the Florida State League's better pitchers instead because of his offspeed assortment. "At this level, you have mostly fastball hitters," Vero Beach pitching coach Ken Howell said. "These kids can get around on a fastball, it doesn't matter how hard you're throwing. But if you can keep them guessing, you can beat them." Megrew, 20, has kept hitters guessing while posting a 6-4, 3.21 record. He's been in the top 10 in the Florida State League in ERA all season, as well as the top 10 in strikeouts. Opponents were hitting .204 against him. And unlike power pitchers, Megrew's success isn't predicated on his fastball. Batters often have no idea what pitch is coming because Megrew disguises his changeup so well. "I throw it like a fastball and it has good movement," he said. "A lot of opposing hitters tell me it looks like a fastball when it's coming to them." The hitters then end up looking silly when they swing far too early. That scene has repeated itself all season as Megrew struck out 93 batters (against 32 walks) in his first 76 innings. Command Is Key Megrew actually relies on his changeup and curve more than his fastball, which tops out at 91-92 mph and is consistently in the 88 mph range. Howell points to such pitchers as Jamie Moyer, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux when looking for pitchers who have enjoyed productive careers with similar approaches. "He has better command than most guys at this level," Howell said. "He has command of three pitches. Most guys at this level are really one-pitch pitchers." And while he's not overpowering now, Megrew's lanky frame and steady development mean that he has plenty of projection left. Especially when you consider that, despite his varied repertoire, Megrew is a relative newcomer to the game. Growing up in Rhode Island, Megrew played Little League but then gave up baseball for the next few years to concentrate on basketball. He returned to the sport in high school. When he returned, he wasn't an immediate sensation. As with most pitchers in the Northeast, Megrew didn't get numerous chances to throw a lot, or get noticed, at Chariho Regional High in Hope Valley, R.I. Megrew finally did emerge late in the 2002 draft cycle with a strong senior season. By then, it was too late for college recruiters to get his attention. Scouts were swarming to his games, but when the Dodgers selected him in the fifth round, it was largely on faith. Megrew was considered a project even for a New England pitcher, because he threw in the mid-80s with a below-average breaking ball. More Velocity, Better Results The Dodgers spent a relatively early pick on Megrew because they believed that he had plenty of development left in his arm. And by that fall, Megrew was throwing 88-93 mph, with a good curveball and a deceptive changeup that he picked up from Rookie-level Gulf Coast League pitching coach George Culver. After going 1-1, 2.03 in the GCL in 2002, Megrew went 5-3, 3.40 for Rookie-level Ogden last season, showing his continued development by striking out 99 batters in 77 innings. His combined opponents average in the first season and a half was .216. The changeup that Culver taught Megrew in 2002 is still paying dividends. Culver has continued to watch him as he has developed, and he was in the stands May 19 when Megrew threw seven innings of no-hit ball against Tampa. "He could have pitched at just about any level up to Triple-A that night, he had such good command," Culver said. "But I like to judge pitchers on the nights when everything isn't working. And he's had a couple of games where things aren't going right and he still has done well. That shows he's come a long way." Megrew said the turning point for this season came in his second start. He had a terrible first start against Brevard County, walking five of the 12 batters he faced. Five days later against St. Lucie, he again started out pitching too carefully and walked a batter in the first inning. After that, though, he challenged hitters and discovered he didn't need to throw a perfect pitch every time to get them out. "I realized these guys are good," Megrew said, "but they're not that good." Steve Megargee covers the Dodgers for the Vero Beach Press Journal.
  17. Does anybody has any stats for Ugla? has good # http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/U/dan-uggla.shtml
  18. 2nd round Marlins take pitcher Michael Magrew from the Dodgers (Vegas) Its Mike Megrew and he has alot of potential. Doubt he stays with us though. Very raw and coming back from surgery. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/M/mike-megrew.shtml
  19. Is there a reason that Enc and TJ wern't offered arby?? Did Beinfest forget about them amongst all these trades?? Marlins declined to offer arbitration to 1B/OF Jeff Conine, INF Damion Easley, RHP Antonio Alfonseca and RHP Ismael Valdez, OF Juan Encarnacion, SS Alex Gonzalez, RHP Todd Jones, RHP Jim Mecir, 3B Mike Mordecai and RHP Paul Quantrill. Those draft picks would just cost money to sign. The Marlins made offers to both Conine and Alfonseca, but neither accepted. Dec. 8 - 1:00 am et Im sick to my stomach right now. I hate to say it but Loria needs to sell the team to someone more wealthy who can atleast offered to pay draft picks. :confused

  22. Isn't midnight the deadline? Maybe but here are some annoucments White Sox declined to offer arbitration to DH Frank Thomas, DH Carl Everett and C Raul Casanova. All expected. Those three are the team's only remaining free agents. Thomas is likely to end up with either the A's or Twins, with the A's being the better bet. Dec. 7 - 4:57 Dodgers offered arbitration to RHP Jeff Weaver; declined to offer arbitration to RHP Darren Dreifort, RHP Elmer Dessens, LHP Wilson Alvarez, C Paul Bako and 3B/OF Jose Valentin. No offer to Dessens? He's agreed to a two-year deal to the Royals, which would have netted the Dodgers a draft pick. However, the team must have been concerned he'd back out with the prospect of a higher one-year salary with Los Angeles. The Royals have to be thrilled. It's highly unlikely that Weaver will accept arbitration, but if he doesn't find the right three- or four-year proposal, it can't be ruled out. Dec. 7 - 5:43 pm et
  23. The Devil Rays are asking for the moon for there players. They where set to get Andy Marte who is a top 20 maybe top 10 prospect in baseball for Julio Lugo and they still want more. Lats yera they wanted Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, Yusmeiro Petit and Lasting Milledge for Aubrey Huff and Danys Baez. Ironically we have 3 of those 4 players now. So you better believe they are gonna demand Sanchez or Petit and maybe both!!! for Garthright. Quite frankly I wouldn't give up either of the 2 for Garthright.
  24. Any minute now will find out. Rotoworld is starting to post them.
