The "Rank the Marlins pitching prospects" Game

Featured Replies

Rank these pitchers:

Aaron Thompson

Annibal Sanchez

Chris Volstad

Gabriel Hernandez

Jason Vargas

Josh Johnson

Logan Kensing

Jacob Marceaux

Jeffrey Allison

Renyel Pinto

Ricky Nollasco

Ryan Tucker

Scott Olsen

Sean West

Sergio Mitre

Taylor Tankersly

Yusmeiro Petit

If I forgot someone, add them in. All these pitching prospects is getting confusing.

Chris Volstad

Annibal Sanchez

Joshn Johnson

Scott Olsen

Gaby Hernandez

Yusmeiro Petit

Ricky Nolasco

Sean West (yep)

Jason Vargas

Sergio Mitre

Tank

The others I don't know as well, not as confident to rank them.

1. Anibal Sanchez

2. Scott Olsen

3. Gaby Hernandez

4. Yusmeiro Petit

5. Chris Volstad

6. Josh Johnson

7. Ricky Nolasco

8. Aaron Thompson

9. Ryan Tucker

10. Renyel Pinto

11. Taylor Tankersley

12. Jeff Allison

13. Jacob Marceaux

14. Sean West

15. Logan Kensing

Mitre and Vargas have too many innings to be on this list, in my opinion.

Allison could shoot way up the list, but he has more to prove than those above him.

Are we talking current production or ceiling? I gotta think Volstad has the highest potential out of all of them, no? Or maybe I'm just being led by the hype.

I go with a little of both. Volstad still has more to prove than those in front of him on my list.

Although I personally think Sanchez is going to be the best of the bunch overall.

Sanchez should have the biggest immediate impact, I think. '07 #2 or 3, and should get the call up later in the '06 season. I'm also anxious to see how Johnson does this year.

Jeesh, with all these prospects we could possibly trade for any cheap, young, and talented player in the league if the team that has the player(s) we want are willing to make a trade.

Hard to rank them, but I'd say out of that list, these guys have the most potential:

Sanchez, Petit, Hernandez, Tankersly, Olsen, Volstad and Nolasco.

Geez we have some great prospects.

You also forgot Tyler and Bowyer who we got from the Twins and Delgado and Garcia from the Red Sox, but only Tyler is a starter... I think.

Do we actually have any decent relief prospects that are near the major leagues, besides Bowyer?

..well, isn't Tank supposed to be converting to the bullpen? Also, don't forget about Resop and Messenger.

How many picks will we have in first/sandwich/2nd rounds in the draft next year based on free agency? Don't forget if we have a bunch of picks again, more pitching will show up (again)... I really hope they go for at least one decent hitter

I believe at the moment all we have is our first rounder, a sandwich (AJ), our 2nd rounder, and 2 third rounders (AJ).

Since he's the only lock to be granted arbitration.

Our other Type A's were Conine and Jones and neither are locks to be granted arbitration. Conine would almost have to accept as it's hard to imagine someone giving up their first rounder to sign him and he would make more than I'm sure we're willing to pay in arby. I think we should grant it to Jones, but who knows.

Gonzalez and Enc are Type B's, but we don't want them back and neither has generated much FA interest, so it'd be risky to grant it to them too.

Has anybody seen any of these guys pitch?

It sounds like everybody posting on this website is super excited about these highly rated prospects but have never seen them in action. Half of what they write is probably exagerrations trying to artificially inflate the trade value.

1. Anibal Sanchez

2. Scott Olsen

3.Chris Volstad

4. Gaby Hernandez

5. Yusmeiro Petit

6. Ricky Nolasco

7. Josh Johnson

8. Aaron Thompson

9. Ryan Tucker

10. Renyel Pinto

11. Sean West

12. Taylor Tankersley

13. Jeff Allison

14. Jacob Marceaux

15. Logan Kensing

so many options.

our rotation is going to be simply sick in a couple of years.

that makes me 'giddy'

Tell us how they look as you'll probably be the only one to see them "in-person"

:whistle

1. Anibal Sanchez

2. Scott Olsen

3. Chris Volstad

4. Gaby Hernandez

5. Yusmeiro Petit

6. Jeff Allison

7. Ricky Nolasco

8. Josh Johnson

You mean in terms of ceiling? If so, I agree for the most part. These are the changes I made. I frankly don't think Tankersley and Kensing are any good. 1-13 all have a great shot at making it to the big leagues and being average to above average.

The first six on that list have the potential to be number 2-3 starters, while Olsen, Sanchez, and Hernandez have a shot of being number 1 starters. Petit has the potential to be like Greg Maddux. He's got sick control.

the prevailing thought is that Gaby Hernandez and Annibal Sanchez will need more time in the minors, correct? But that Petit could be ready?

Yes. No reason based on statistics (since none of us have seen him pitch) to believe Petit is not ready to go.

I guess I'm the only one that sees Sanchez's future in the bullpen, at least this season.

1. Anibal Sanchez

2. Scott Olsen

3.Chris Volstad

4. Gaby Hernandez

5. Yusmeiro Petit

6. Ricky Nolasco

7. Josh Johnson

8. Aaron Thompson

9. Ryan Tucker

10. Renyel Pinto

11. Sean West

12. Taylor Tankersley

13. Jeff Allison

14. Jacob Marceaux

15. Logan Kensing

solid prospect list there.

If we're talking closest to MLB ready and high quality (since that's usually the spirit of the BA rankings):

Scott Olsen

Yusmeiro Petit

Jason Johnson

Sergio Mitre

Anibal Sanchez

Rick Nolasco

Chris Volstad

Aaron Thompson

Renyel Pinto

Gaby Hernandez

Ryan Tucker

Sean West (only this low because he is just too raw)

Taylor Tankersly

Jacob Marceaux

Logan Kensing

Jeff Allison

If it's highest cieling (I'll exclude Allison):

Sanchez

Olsen

Volstad

Petit

West

Johnson

Hernandez

Pinto

Nolasco

Thompson

Tucker

Tank

Marceaux

Kensing

Not a bad list at all, too bad the cupboards are bare when it comes to position players (other than my new "diaper dandy" Kris Harvey).
