  1. I don't thik he likes Koch because he looks like a meanie... :tv_horror
  2. When will the Pavano talk end? Stop your stupid fantasies Red Sox fans. You're not getting him. "Teams recognize we're 1 1/2 games out of first," Beinfest said. "I think generally in baseball, if you're in a race, you generally aren't talking about front-line guys." 465079[/snapback] "generally" being a key word...and I don't think anyone is saying we are sellers...yet. But if this nosedive continues you can put money in the bank that we will be unloading some significant players come July 31st.
  3. Teixeira is a 24 year old on pace to hit about 40 HR...and he missed 2-3 weeks with an injury earlier this year. He's one of the few in Cabrera's territory. I love Brad but he wont get us Teixeira. him and Blalock will be one of the best 1-2 punches we've seen in a while.
  4. I've never seen a worse defensive right fielder than Cabrera
  5. Meh flies to center :confused
  6. I second the "meh" Conine has been terrible all year long...true, he has done well the last couple of games, but two games doesnt a season make. If he produces that way for the next month, then we'll get off his back...but until he shows any type of positive consistency -- well -- meh. and if your wondering -- I love Conine. He's done a lot for this organization but you can only be loyal for so long. He's been hurting the team all year long this season...and if we want to make a playoff push either he has to get on a tear NOW or he has to be replaced. In other words...if he doesnt continue what hes been doing the last two games (producing) it has to be the last straw.
  7. Shame Cabs hit that ball right at Stynes...if he could have gotten it over his head it would be 6-3 right now with 2 men on 0 outs :thumbdown
  8. someone that is actually feasable? Magglio Ordonez someone that I'd just like to have in a fantasy world? Albert Pujols
  9. Bringing up Small makes little sense....showcasing players anyone?
  10. Come on. You know these threads play out. You're just getting people excited for no reason. I was just posting it in case someone hadn't seen the article.... and while I agree rumors should have warning labels next to them telling people not to give their hopes up for them, but they are fun to read into nonetheless.
  11. Old trade rumors? DIE THREAD DIE Wow! I might as well have posted a thread about man inventing fire too huh?? grow up, rferry
  12. how about Nunez for MacDougal? Our talented dissapointment for theirs? we dont need another project like Koch What do you expect for Abraham Nunez? Eric Gagne? I'd say it's worth a shot...MacDougal is nasty, maybe Rosenthal can straighten him out. It's not like Nunez is doing much anyway.
  13. how about Nunez for MacDougal? Our talented dissapointment for theirs?
  14. ALOT of interesting stuff in here... The Yankees' interest in Beltran was based primarily on their desire to interfere with the Red Sox, but they did discuss trading RHP Bret Prinz for Marlins OF Abraham Nunez with the idea of including Nunez, a player the Royals liked, in a package for Beltran. . . http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=insi...v=tsn&type=lgns The Ordonez for Jones swap caught my eye too...how about a three way deal? :thumbup
  15. You saw both sides of the spectrum tonight. In the 10th, Koch was nothing short of nasty, 95-96 MPH fastballs with movement, a nice cutter and a nasty slider/curve. He was throwing strikes and locating beautifully. In the 11th, you saw what the white sox saw. Still the same stuff, but terrible location. An 0-2 fastball to Young right down the middle, and another fat one to Hank Blalock that was crushed. His velocity is getting back up there which is nice to see...I'm pretty sure I saw him hit 97 MPH in the 10th. His breaking ball is nasty. Hopefully Rosy can straighten him out like he has so many times in the past and he can turn it around. He proved tonight that he's still got the stuff to be that man we so desperately need. at 500k, It's a good gamble by Beinfest.
  16. i dont care what anyone says but id "deplete" our farm system in a heartbeat to get carlos beltran or any player of that quality. propsects are just that. prospects. they have potential. you cant sit around and worry about the future when you have a chance to win now. Hmmm...So if we were in contention a couple of years ago, would you have traded Cabrera? While I'd love to have Beltran here as much as the next person, you have to be smart in your dealings.
  17. The problem with this bullpen is the minor league trash like Bump and Borland blowing game after game...Howard has good stuff, but from what I've read, his velocity is a bit down. I read a bio saying he hits anywhere from 93-98 MPH and I don't think I've seen him top 94...he has a nasty breaking ball though, so he could be effective. That being said, he has to earn it...He gave up a HR to Piazza i'm pretty sure...so he has given up a bomb. If he continues to pitch well CONSISTENTLY, then I'd be all for it. Guys like Borland, Bump on the other hand are complete garbage. They offer nothing to this team. Watching minor league fodder blowing game after game is just so frustrating to watch. Wayne and Phelps are too inconsistent for my liking, too..although some of it in Wayne's case could be due to the shoulder problem. Perisho is very one dimensional...I've never seen someone dominate lefties and be so bad against righties. This team needs at least two relievers...because if only one is added we're going to end up doing what we did to Fox and blow his arm out.
  18. what does it tell you if the Royals just cut him? It says they couldn't get anything for him and/or he's worthless. Chad Fox? The guy was lights out last year...he would make a nice addition IMO.
  19. How can you say the regular season doesn't mean a thing? The Tampa Bay Lightning just proved how the regular season means a whole lot..they won their conference, got pretty much a bye series vs. the Islanders and Canadiens Compare President Cup winners against Stanley Cup winners, for one. Everyone knows hat the regular season is an absolute joke. They play for 6 months and eliminate what, 8 or 10 teams? Crap. At the same time...You HAVE to love the unpredictability. It allows for cindirella stories and underdogs to succeed. I love a good underdog story every now and again too. But at what point do Cinderellas become so common that they aren't cinderella's anymore? Half the teams are eliminated from playoff contention after the regular season...just like the NBA. Do you think their setup of playoff contention is a joke too? The fact that the playoffs are unpredictable are a beautiful thing. It gives fans and players hope because truly ANYTHING can happen. Just like the Marlins last year, there's nothing better than sneaking into the postseason and "shocking the world". It's one thing that separates the MLB and NHL from the other sports in my eyes
  20. I played hockey from Mites all the way through Bantam and I can tell you that Professional Hockey does suck. I'm all for parity, but the complete unpredicatability of the sport and it's teams leads me to believe it's alot more like roller derby that a real sport. Why watch 6 months of regular season hockey when it doesn't matter, and most of the best teams in the regular season bow out due to the ridiculous format?. Wow...that is the strangest logic i've ever seen. How can you say the regular season doesn't mean a thing? The Tampa Bay Lightning just proved how the regular season means a whole lot..they won their conference, got pretty much a bye series vs. the Islanders and Canadiens, and beat both the Flyers and Flames because they had the fresh legs and their opposition didn't. In both games 7's, the Flyers and Flames looked drained while the Dolts skated circles around them. At the same time...You HAVE to love the unpredictability. It allows for cindirella stories and underdogs to succeed. Unlike in most sports, anything truley can happen in the postseason as the Ducks and Flames have proven. Baseball is the only other sport you can claim the same, and it's a main reason why they're my favorite sports.
  21. Plz don't say hockey sucks thx. Don't have to, the TV viewing public says it for us.... Lowest watched Finals in modern history. Too bad. Actually some nice storylines in this one (small towns, Andreychuck, etc...) I wonder if anyone who doesn't speak French will even notice when they don't have a season next year? The ratings in Canada are through the roof...the ratings in the US are down the drain. If you could see CBC's Hockey night in Canada's coverage vs. Clowns like Melrose and Thorne you'd see why. I may just be a pessimist, but unfortunatley I too see a terribly long lockout. Bettman and Goodenow care nothing about the sport and only about their own pockets. It's a shame too...because It sounds like the Panthers are actually serious about competing now. Nice timing, huh?
  22. The hockey TV Ratings are somewhat deceiving..yes, they're brutal, but a lot of that can be attributed to ABC/ESPN's piss poor coverage of the playoffs. The fact that game 5 and 6 of the Stanley weren't top stories on ESPN news and sportscenter is an absolute joke and a slap in the face to the NHL. The fact that game 7 of the conference finals was on ESPN two is also a complete joke. ESPN is absolutley positivly killing the NHL...that being said, what other alternative does the NHL have? Fox Sports? Wen't through that not too long ago and it didnt work. If ESPN did half of the promoting of the Stanley cup finals as they do with the NBA with their annoying Black Eyed Peas commercials, I'm sure those numbers would change. Yes the NHL is not nearly as popular, but ESPN isn't doing anything to help the fact. I've never met one person that completely understood the game of hockey and claimed it "sucked". People say that baised on ignorance and lack of knoweledge about the game. It's a tough sport to sell to people...It's ridiculosly expensive to play when you're a kid, so there's not many people that grow up loving it...at least in the US. All you need to play basketball is a 20$ ball and a public court. Hockey is a truley awsome game...It's a shame the commisioner is a complete tool and throwing the sport down the drain. Bettman has done nothing but hurt this game year in and year out, and unfortunatley, he's flirting with the NHL's death this comming summer. Both him and Goodenow are greedy, filthy pigs and that doesn't bode well for us fans. Some more proof Tampa Fans are the most clueless fans of all hockey: They're the only city ive EVER heard NOT boo Bettman. Disgraceful.
  23. Yup, I agree...they clearly are a great team. Tortorella is a great coach and theres just a load of skill on that team. That being said, It's a shame they have to play in such a dump of a city, If you've ever gone up there to watch a Lightning/Panther game or met any of the Lightning fans down here, they are the most dissrespectful fans I've ever seen. They don't deserve this at all...it really is a shame. That being said, for us Cat fans, Tampa's success started after the firing of Dudley...hopefully a similar path will be taken here.
  24. If there's a city in the NHL that didn't deserve a championship It's Tampa...remember, they're the same team that was ridiculously close to moving to Portland because of lack of fan support. Shame...I disagree about the Marlins not having many bandwagoners, but Tampa Bay makes me physically sick.
  25. I can not get over how entirely stupid this thread is. He may be 5th in the order, but that means is that he's asked to drive in the 3rd and 4th batters home AND get on base for the 6th and 7th batters to drive him in. If anyone we should be blaming Easley, Alex and Red not doing sh8t. It's not like Conine has had much of a chance to drive anyone home with Cabs stinking up the joint. He had a pretty good shot in the 9th if you ask me... We're not talking about only today...He's been putrid all year long. 19 RBI from one of your supposed RBI men is terrible, plain and simple. The fact that he has as many RBI as the guy this whole town wants on the pine speaks volumes. Conine is not doing his job..period.
