1. I have this scenario all worked out... :thumbup Get rid of Encarnacion, one way or another...whether it's packaging him off with AJ, or taking another teams problem(Chacon)... Sign Ordonez to a one year, 8.5 million deal, with some of the money being deferred money (maybe 3.5 in 2005, 2.5 in 2006, 2.5 in 2007), with a club option for 3 additional years at 30 mil (9.5, 10, 10.5). Those 3 additional years would automatically kick in if Ordonez plays in 150 games, hits over .300, 30 HR and 100 RBI in 2005. (very attainable for Ordonez) Ordonez is coming off a serious knee injury, so the Marlins can't afford to throw a guaranteed long term contract at him...if he's healthy, he gets a 4 year deal at 38.5 mil, if he isn't, the Marlins get out of the deal with minimal harm done. The deal should be appealing to Maggs, too, considering he's essentially getting a 4 year deal as long as he can stay healthy, a commitment he probably wouldn't get coming off a serious injury. Just a FYI...Ordonez was NEVER on the DL once in his entire career prior to the knee injury....
2. Kline wouldn't be a bad pickup, but will probably prove too costly... A guy I'd like to see Beinfest go after is Damaso Marte. The White Sox, from what i've read, have him on the block with younger options available to them (Cotts, others). He didn't have a great year last season...but still solid. He's a strikeout machine, too. 633323 we'd have to give up the farm for him though 633341 I don't think so...he's a good reliever, but not someone worthy of "giving up the farm" for. A good prospect should do...and maybe even Encarnacion..depending on what happens with Carlos Lee. Enc could become a 25-30 HR guy with good speed and great D in that park.

4. All you guys saying trade AJ instead of Beckett, you simply don't understand.? AJ is a free agent after this season and once he becomes a free agent, he is as good as gone regardless of how much money we throw in his face.? He has made it very clear over the past year that he does not want to be a Marlin and he'll get his wish when he becomes a free agent after 2005, so we might as well trade him now and get something in return rather than allow him to leave and we get absolutely nothing. 633077 Maybe so, but you don't sell him to the Yankees because of his impending free agency. Vazquez had a bad year last season, and is unbelievably overpaid. You play the "trade Burnett" card just like Billy Beane is doing with Hudson. Pitching is at a premium, if you put a 27 year old ace making only 3.5 million on the market you're going to start a bidding war.... If Beinfest trades Burnett for Vazquez, he's a fool...i'm not opposed to dealing Burnett, but we better get full value for him -- and after the season Vazquez had last year and his current contract status, he sure as hell isn't near Burnett's value.
5. Wow...what a brutal deal that would be. Just furthur proves why MLB needs to do something to level the playing field....it's essentially like buying Burnett off of us.
6. Bad move. 1.1 million for such mediocrity is an awful deal... Jones himself isnt THAT bad, but he's a very average pitcher. If he signed for 500k or so I would have no problems with it, but a team with such restrictions like ours shouldnt be overpaying grossly for Todd Jones. Terrible signing. Beinfest is having a rough summer so far. 631561 Thats defintely not overpaying, hes worth 1 million 631564 He had a 4.15 ERA... .273 BA and 1.42 WHIP... not even near warranting 1.1 mil. Put it this way...we signed Chad Fox for less $ after he was lights out for us in '03...
7. Sox get Matt Mantei for 750k and we give Todd Jones 1.1 mil? :plain

9. Magglios replacement....hmmmm :thumbup Average move...I think they overpaid, but Dye is a solid player.
10. In all ways as a franchise. Discuss. 620260 Discuss what? How unbelievably stupid this thread is? I've never been a big Loria fan, but to call him "cheap" is just complete ignorance. He loses 10-20 million dollars in a good year, and you have the audacity to say we're cheap because we didn't offer OUR BACKUP CATCHER over a million dollars? That's not being cheap, that's being smart...something you clearly aren't. I'm as big as a Redmond fan as anyone here, but you don't pay your backup catcher a million dollars when you have a capable replacement in Treanor and/or Willingham and a perennial all star playing in front of him. And on the whole small/big market thing -- check our stadium deal and attendance figures -- then come back and say we're not a small market team with a straight face.
11. We are throwing away one of the best catchers in baseball, 619137 You have GOT to be kidding me...
12. I'll take HOF DVH anyday over the self-centered Boog. Boog is pretty good but he will drive Tommy nuts. Boog is not a natural team player as Len was and DVH is. Boog cares only about Jon Sciambi. 618504 And why exactly do you think Boog is selfish?
13. There's no excuse to not give Boog the gig...he's one of the best young announcers in the business and deserves the job....and if FSN is stupid enough to NOT give it to him, someone else out there sure will. Thanks for the great times Len...good luck in Chicago (you'll need it)
14. Hoffman is not a free agent. 617512 Make an offer. Deal. 617526 and why would san diego trade him? 617528 And why did we trade Preston Wilson, Brad Penny and others? Teams trade because they think they need something in return. Thought even Das Texan knew that. 617529 Those were quite possibly the worst examples you could have come up with. We traded Wilson and Penny because we couldn't afford, or weren't going to be able to afford, them any longer. Hoffman is a bargain...not even close to being the same situation.
15. Who came up with an idea almost identical to this one at the end of the season?? :thumbup Guillen is a bargain, his outbursts are worrysome but a risk we have to take at that price. Including the D-Backs could be a slick move by Beinfest if he persuades them to take Encarnacion...they're one of the few that could if the deal were right.
16. http://tsn.ca/mlb/teams/player_bio.asp?pla...902&hubName=FLA :thumbup
17. Being a Panther/Marlin fan...I know how important a good, entertaining and objective announcer really is. We had to suffer through the bad (Jeff Rimer) and then blessed with the good( Len Kasper). Don't leave Len...this franchise needs you a hell of alot more than the Cubs, or any other team out there, do.
18. frankly, they both suck I mean, when Rudy couldnt find the zone he was absolutely awful.... that Cubs game comes to mind.... 612601 Is there any pitchers who are effective when they cant find the strike zone? For what he is, Seanez is extremely effective...he's not a setup man, but a solid middle reliever. After he went through his "the only pitch I know how to throw is the slider" faze and actually threw his fastball, he was very solid. The only reason I'd be concerned over bringing him back is his injury history...he's one pitch bad pitch away from calling it a career...
19. What planet do you live on rferry? Stats while on the Fish: Seanez: 2.74 ERA, .212 BA, 1.13 WHIP Manzanillo: 6.12 ERA, .292 BA, 1.64 WHIP And you're trying to make a case for Manzanillo being the better pitcher? Good call. :lol
20. We have enough primadonnas on this team as is...the last thing we need is Alou. If we're going to spend that kind of $$ on an outfielder I'd rather take my chances with Ordonez :thumbup
21. Manzy added pizzazz to the team. I loved the way he'd jump up in the air after he struck somebody out to end the inning. 611378 Me too...too bad for every strikout he gave up 5 ER. Manzanillo is terrible, unless we are run by bafoons, he won't be back.
22. Don't know how realistic it would be for a Boog and Goldie show...Goldie is now the play by play guy of the Panthers..it would be tough with all the travel required in the NHL. It would make one hell of a duo, though. Good to hear, hopefully the Marlins & Panthers get alot more attention on the air...Marlins coverage is minimal and Panthers are nonexistent.
23. 1. Pierre - CF 2. Castillo - 2B 3. Rodriguez - SS 4. Cabrera - 3B 5. Ordo?ez - RF 6. Conine - LF 7. Willingham - 1B 8. Redmond - C I'll take it. 599214 If this could be the 2005 lineup, I dont know one Marlins fan that wouldnt take this as our starting lineup. If there is anyway to upgrade catcher that would be the only concern I have. I doubt this could happen but if it did that would be awesome. 599221 Here's one. A rightfielder that's chronically hurt. a firstbaseman that's way over his head and a catcher who can't play more than 60 games a year. Can you say last place? 599251 Last season was the first time Ordonez has EVER been on the DL in his MLB career.... I'd take my chances with him. As for the original post...you should be shot, brought back to life, and shot again for such an insane post.
24. forget dealing Lowell man he will either be here or become a FA 582046 OK... Then sign an affordable SP. I don't really trust Valdez...maybe Cory Lidle?
