25 Player Play-Off Roster?
Wild Card. Don't agree with you. Cabrera is a spark-plug and I don't see why there is a conflict between him and Conine on the Play-Off Roster. With (if?) Lowell back, I'll leave it to McKeon to choose who's playing. But, I'd like them both there.

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
why does it matter Arnie? not everyone wants to answer and none of us will have the right answer anyway Too bad that logic doesn't apply to the BS, space-wasting polls and threads projecting next season.

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
Funny how many guys who eagerly jump into a poll on how many times next year's clubhouse toilets flush suddenly have no opinion on a decision to be made in a few weeks.

dumb thread Thread is not "dumb." Your reaction is. Say something constructive or nothing at all.

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
By "on the sidelines" I mean "not on the playoff roster." Thanks. Now I understand. Your Starters are Redman, Beckett, Willis, Penny and Pavanno. Your Relievers are Urbina, Looper, Tejera, Bump and Chad Fox. Helling is not included. Think your 25 player roster is a bit short-sighted. Think we need to remove a "position player" in favor of Helling. (Come on now... said this is a fun exercise so we can watch what McKeon may be anticipating. There will be last minute changes.) You also took out Banks who could cover for Williams or Harris with more versatility.

By "on the sidelines" I mean "not on the playoff roster." Do you feel like proposing a 25 player roster?

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
Gerald Williams is ineligible for play-off play. He was called up from AAA Albuquerque on Semptember 1st. Thanks. I misunderstood that. Thought he had made the dead-line.

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
all i am going to say about harris is this.... he has done a pretty damn good job in that pinch hitting role with us. So what's your 25 player roster? The topic herein.

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
83Gator, What does your "on the sidelines" mean? With those six you are up to 31 roster players. (And you included Phelps who will not be available.) And I do agree that Banks is more valuable than Williams. (And more than Harris.)

25 Player Play-Off Roster?
I'm not prone to get ahead of reality (certainly not in terms of next Season's roster) but I understand that after the last Season game and before the play-offs the Marlins have to present a 25 player roster for the Play-Offs. I'm not genius enough to figure that out but I'd appreciate your thoughts. Some spots may well go to the last minute. But. it will be fun watching McKeon's player-use in light of what our forum users predict. Thanks. (We certainly can assume current starters plus Lowell, Redmond, Mordecai, Fox, Banks, Castro. That's 14. Add Harris and Williams. 16. Leaves 9. All pitchers? That's 5 starters and 4 relievers, or 4 starters and 5 relievers.) Huh? (Maybe Harris or Williams needs to be reconsidered. Fox can't be because it would leave us with only one back-up infielder and, in a pinch he could play outfield.)

Carlos Muniz
According to the Herald: The Marlins have offered a free agent contract to outfielder Juan Carlos Mu?iz, a six-year veteran of Cuban league play. Mu?iz has spent the past several months in Brazil, where he traveled on a Cuban visa. Anyone know anything about this guy? :confused . Sorry if this was already posted I'm interested, too. Saw nothing in the Sun-Sent' or PBPost. Hope someone can follow-up. (I assume he has defector status.)

Should we be pissed?
I felt so badly for Penny (and us) when he had to the leave the game in the first inning. Then this morning I learn that he knew something was wrong during his pre-game warm-up. While he has the right to pull himself out (even before the game starts), he doesn't have the right to leave himself in if he knows there's something wrong with his arm. At the very least he should have told the trainer or pitching coach. They might have still let him start but under scrutiny. I appreciate Penny's desire and guts. But, not his brains. We can't afford to lose another pitcher!

Pre-Pubic Screening?
That was nice of you, Arnie. The stars are based on post count, not post quality. I don't see a need for inventing an age check system at this time. No need to show who is who. It's pretty easy to tell when a post is from a 12 yr old and when it is not as we have seen. Thanks for your response, Admin. And thanks for taking that dumb poll off. I wish today's respondants were there last night when I had to put up with that guy's childish crap. You have enough Moderators. Why can't you set up a system by which, after a certain number of postings... an evaluation of quality and forum contribution is determined before a "promotion?" And you deserved a slam for awarding that child with two stars. I read many one-stars who know what they're talking about. Quantity is one measure of interest and participation. Ultimately, quality is the Hallmark of the whole site.

Pre-Pubic Screening?
I had a particularly childish response to a posting yesterday. Checked his Profile and discovered his birthdate was March 7, 1991. This is a pre-teen. I welcome (and encourage) participation by our young fans. But, should we identify these forum members as "pre-teens." Today, he has started two new Topics reflecting his age. Perhaps an asterisk after your so freely given stars? I want to encourage our young fans. But, if I get a cheap shot, I want to know if it came from an adult or a child. If a child, I don't want to respond. If I do, then gently. p.s. 20 minutes later. Check out BluesClues "Whose gonna win the Wild Card" poll posting AND THE RESPONSES.

Give Lee some props...
A Derrick Lee fan for years... nobody smoother than D. Lee, nobody with more potential. Almost got used to waiting for his second-half rally. I grew up with Gil Hodges and Johnny Mize, (1st basemen, Brooklyn Dodgers, N.Y. Giants) players who got the most out of their potential. Now, I wish D. Lee the best. I hope he blossoms with his next team. He is also a class act with an excellent family baseball heritage. I'll keep rooting for him no matter what team he is with. (Just as I continue to root for Kevin Millar, Craig Counsel, etc.) I expect him to do very well in the Marlins Play-Offs. Then gone.

Sizing up the Managers
Good article! Thanks MDude. I was hoping to see a little on Frank Robinson. He must be doing something right with the Expos. Like to hear how the professional manager-raters evaluate him.

Phelps Elbow Problem Returns
Clueless Blue Cheese, See from your forum profile that your birthdate is March 7, 1991. Now I understand your impertinent response.

Phelps Elbow Problem Returns
Loss of Phelps is a team loss. But, we can handle it. What I can't handle is the total disregard for the young player who sweated and sacrificed to make the majors, only to have it taken away by an injury. So when I read "He'd just be another lefty, which is nice," I get a little upset. Yes, assess Phelps loss to the team. But, regard the player, too.

Phelps Elbow Problem Returns
Tommy Phelps' elbow problem has returned. He'll try throwing a little on Friday. (Oh God, not again.) Sun-Sent' reports elbow tendinitis and a bone spur that prevents him from straightening his arm. Eh, I don't find this to be a big problem. It's not like the bullpen has had trouble and we need him to stabalize it. He'd just be another lefty, which is nice. Aren't you a nasty b*tch.

Great Game Today
So many positives, today. Conine finally getting the ball out of the infield and into the stands. Gerald Williams showing why he's a Marlin, Pudge's off-the-bench heroics. But, most of all, the Bull Pen letting Urbina and Looper take a rest. Outstanding!

What is wrong with this guys(media)?
Hotcorner, As you suggested, attendance is the bottom-line. There's no new stadium when we're drawing only 12,000 in a Play-Off run. Marlins were created in large measure because it was believed that the Latino (great baseball fans) would support the team. Latino players were hired to foster that. Didn't happen. I don't know why. Stadium location? Price of tickets? Too many of us Senior fans who don't want to drive I-95 at night? I don't know. But, it's hard to be optimistic, despite having a great Marlins team.

What is wrong with this guys(media)?
This "patronizing" (at best) media attitude drives me nuts. I can't even listen to WQAM anymore (used to listen a lot, but not much the past 6 months.) Pompous jack-asses led by Hank Goldberg (who got his job on the coat-tails of his father.) And when they do get a phone-in on the Marlins, it comes from someone who apparently has never been to a Marlins game. QAM is going down the tubes as a Sports Station. They just suck-up Football (year' round!) Would be great to have a real Sports Radio station in South Florida.

HUGE LOWELL NEWS!
This story of Lowell's (inherent) optimism did break a few days ago, but it came up again yesterday because Mike added that his hand was really feeling better.
