  1. i thought it was this kind of thread. Then, Super Looper poops And Ramp calls us "idiots" Crap in crusty clouds
  2. he's also a world class racquetball player. And so is (was?) his wife. Neat people.
  3. For the youngsters... Jeff Conine was dubbed "Mr. Marlin" not just because of his excellent on-field performance (including All-Star MVP), but also because of his extraordinary community efforts. He is a generous, committted member of our community. Class act plus. (This is not a Conine thread, we have them. Just wanted our youngest members to know where the title came from.) Thanks.
  4. Redman will dominate tonight. (I just wish he would learn the Urbina stare! Would make it easier for him.)
  5. We got our butts whipped last night. Embarrassing. Reality returns today and I think we are up for it. This team has back-bone and guts. We really miss Lowell but, at least, McKeon agreed with most of us and switched Conine and Lee in the line-up. Better late than never. And McKeon is not going to switch Urbina and Looper. That's his style, don't undermine confidence, stay with the guy who brought you to the dance. This is going to be wild. GO MARLINS.
  6. Nice article. Thanks. It's good to have a veteran pitcher not a hurler.
  7. Fun comparative articles. Thanks. (I liked the line about Willis being like a collection of prosthetics, and McKeon being older than Willy Mays. Makes me feel like a kid! And yes I heard on the radio "the shot heard round the world.")
  8. Great article. And accurate! Thanks.
  9. Apparently, Hurricane Isabel could force a Marlins/Phillies double-header. Who would have the advantage? With my bias, I think the Marlins because of the bull-pen and the young all-out-never-quit players like Cabrera and Pierre. Would like to know what the educated among us thinks. Thanks.
  10. Just as I said over a month ago that I was not confident Spoony would return, I want, at least, to be patient with Penny's return. Dontrelle will take his next turn. Then, let's watch. Maybe Helling should take the next turn. We get too soon exuberant, as we have with Lowell. Better we drink a little slower, a little smarter.
  11. It is simply an icon that the originator of the thread chose for it. The default is no icon (which is why most topics do not have any pictures next to them). You can choose one when you create a new topic. It is a way to categorize threads that most people don't use. I guess it's not important, but, in fact, I have no idea what you just said. I noticed it this morning after Pat'sGirl (Philly fan) posted on that continuing Marlins/Phillies thread. Thanks, anyway. (The posting originator can add any emphasis he wants in the second column? No matter how uninteresting his posting may be?))
  12. What is the significance of the second column left orange triangular with the exclamation point?
  13. It will be Millwood... not Telemaco who is pitching on Thursday. Just wanted to give you a friendly "good luck" before the BATTLE begins. Regardless who comes out "on top", this is extremely exciting for both clubs and both sets of fans. As far as taking 2 out of 3 in Philly..... you'll need more than luck, you'll need a miracle. Remember you are coming into the PHILADELPHIA... the city of Brotherly SHOVE! The phans will be out to support the Phillies in droves this week, as the Eagles have sucked. :arms Go Phillies! :arms Enjoyed your spirited posting. Come again! (We'll try to get you Series tickets at Pro Player.)
  14. Nice Beckett quote in Sun-Sent' today... "I'd throw (Looper) back out there 10 out of 10 times. He's our closer and he's going to be great for us down the stretch."
  15. Arnie1941 replied to JPierre's topic in Miami Marlins
In all the AB conine hit the ball hard. Two of them line shots to center. I think we should put lee back there again in the 4th spot. IMO Before the road trip I posted "Switch 4th and 6th?" Most of you agreed switching Conine and Lee. Apparently, McKeon did not. Good to see Conine make contact today. Thus far 90% of his contacts have been right field fouls or right side ground-outs. Good to see him finally turning on the ball. But, I'd still rather have the 30/20 guy batting clean-up.
  16. i agree that Loop shouldve been taken out as soon as it was tied. damn the bases got loaded with no outs, and than they tie with a long fly to deep left. he obviously didnt have it today and should've been taken out quick I agree. And Urbina was so strong in the eighth... we should have stayed with him. (Glad this thread is criticising McKeon's judgment and not Looper. It is precarious to criticize Looper on this site.)
  17. I still don't see what was so wrong about what Tommy said? Hmmm, maybe I'm missing something. How about... The Game Wasn't Over
  18. Arnie just doesnt like Looper and was hoping Hutton would rail on him to make him feel better about his opinion. I said nothing negative about our team or any player. I just reacted to the absurdity of what Hutton said when we were down 8 to 4 in the ninth. Why are you trying to cause trouble?
  19. whats wrong with saying that? we were up 4-3 in the 9th No, we were down 8 to 4 at the time. In post-game, Hutton said "It doesn't matter how you lose a game." Huh?
  20. Top of the ninth, Tommy Hutton (FSN) said "Best thing about this game today is that the Marlins have off tomorrow." I wonder if Joe Angel would have been so kiss-up kind?
  21. I watched and enjoyed Bowa as a short-stop. Liked his fire and spunkiness. Thought he would be a good manager. Now... it's obvious: ADVANTAGE MARLINS!
  22. I'd prefer he didn't come back too soon. I don't want him getting hurt badly. I agree. Penny has to at least skip one turn. Can be done easy enough with the coming day-off. We need him for the play-offs and the Series. And we can't trust his warrior judgment about his arm. And he still hasn't had the MRI because his 255 lb frame wouldn't fit in the Lauderdale hospital MRI machine.
  23. Holly over Banks.... other than that I agree Arnie RAMP If McKeon agrees with you, we'll see more of Holly the next few weeks. Lord knows he has the natural talent (just don't know where it went). My suggestion of 11 pitchers out of the 25 Roster... (time out! Cabrera just hit a home run! 6 zip. Love it) Concerned about Penny. But, McKeon has shown he knows how to use the bull-pen. So, I want him to have a full-bull-pen hand.
  24. (End of the day and nobody really yelled at me. Okay. Here's my 25 not believing that Lowell will be available for more than pinch-hitting until the World Series.) Infield: Pudge, D.Lee, Castillo, Gonzalez, Cabrera. (5) Outfield: Conine, J.Pierre, Encarnacion. (3) Bench: Lowell, Redmond, Mordecai, Fox, Castro, Banks. (6) Pitching: Redman, Beckett, Willis, Penny (?), Pavanno, Urbina, Looper, Tejera, Bump, Fox, Helling. (11) That's 25. Easy, huh?
  25. Juanky, With your "rounding out the bull-pen," you are two over the 25. That's before your potential reserves. (I see several of us listing "reserves." Are there any reserves after the 25 play-off roster?)
