Tori Hunter says MLB is Killing Jackie Robinson day
I love the comment Dan LeBatard made a few days ago on his radio show: So many people seem to cry about the lack of American Blacks in MLB these days, but how come nobody says anything about the lack of American whites in the NBA? yup

A few choice words
I love the underdog aspect, no one is giving us a shot sorta thing. Although it may be true, let's keep riding whatever seems to be working.

Al Reyes
TAMPA -- Tampa Police arrested Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al Reyes early this morning, saying the reliever was drunk and disruptive after falling down, picking a fight and spitting blood at the patrons of a popular Hyde Park night spot where Jessica Sierra was arrested last year for throwing a glass at a patron. Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn said this morning: "We are looking into the situation as we are just learning of it.'' Thursday was Reyes' 38th birthday. Witnesses told police the incident started around 2:30 a.m. at the Hyde Park Cafe, 1806 W Platt St., when Reyes fell against a ceramic pot inside the bar. Thinking someone had pushed him, police said Reyes began exchanging words with patron Eduardo Mora. Mora then punched Reyes in the face, getting the attention of the Hyde Park Cafe's bouncers. Meanwhile, police said in a news release, Reyes "began to spit blood on the people in the area and began to swing his arms about." The bouncers tried to control Reyes, but the 6 foot 1, 230-pound right-hander kept pushing them away. A Tampa Police officer working extra duty at the bar tried to calm the fracas, but Reyes "continued spitting blood and thrashing about," Tampa Police Lt. William Ferguson wrote in the release. Moments later, the officer Tased Reyes, knocking him to the bar floor. Ignoring police commands to stay down, authorities said Reyes got up and was Tased a second time. Reyes eventually calmed down and was treated for a cut to his nose, police said. He refused to be transported to a hospital. Reyes was charged with affray; Mora was charged with battery. Both were released on their own recognizance. Postgame Thougts 4/9
Good pitching. Good to see runs not all via the hr. Cantu with his first long ball, and Jake is killin it. Olsen took a page outta Willis book and was working fast but effective, nice to be able to pitch with a huge lead. Oh and welcome back Hermida

Helms returns to the Fish!
Well, then we can agree to disagree. And as to wanting Wood over Cantu, you are now making things up. You see, I clearly stated I would have preferred CASTILLO over Cantu. But you conveniently change the basis of my argument to strengthen your point. Ok. I see. You are right. I would have preferred Wood over Cantu. Heck, I would prefer Luis Gonzalez over Cantu. Whatever. I like this move. Question: Is Helms a less or greater liability at third than Cantu? I'm not liking what I see at third thus far. Is is possiblt that by the end of the year we'll see Cantu coming off the bench and either Helms or McPherson taking over at third? Not sure if Cantu can keep the job. What are you seeing at 3rd that you don't like, Cantu's 1 error? Let me preface my response w/ the fact that, out of the three options we started with before ST, Cantu was not on the top of my list. So when I say I don't like Cantu at third, Its b/c I don't think he was the best choice. He never has been a defensive talent, and I doubt his defense will improve based on what he has shown in the past. I'm sure other people share my sentiment. So, I do think we could filled the position w/ Castillo and been stronger defensively rather than hope Cantu returns to 2005 form, be an offensive upgrade, but a defensive liability. I strongly believe a stronger defensive candidate could have and should have filled our third base void. If your asking me if I like seeing Cantu's throwing error result in 2 runs, my answer is no. I don't like it. You may not agree w/ my sentiment, but I do believe other fans have shared the sentiment of having a defensive approach at third this year would have been a more prudent approach to fiiling our void at third. Now, back to my original question, does someone else see someone else taking over at third, especially now that Helms is aboard? So you wanted Wood or McDallas starting the year over Cantu giving there current situations at the time?? If Cantu swings the bat like he did all ST and today, ill take one erratic throw here and there. Just feel your being a bit critical, today at the game I was literally humming out loud the circus music because the defense was comical and a circus act, but I'm not going to freak out over one bad inning. I think the defense has improved as a team since last year, and I've actually liked what I have seen from Cantu so far. Now, I'm not saying Cantu or nothing, if he slides and Dallas or Helms is tearing it up then by all means a change is needed, but under the current circumstances IMO I see no reason to move Cantu thus far. There is a reason Castillo has been released from the Pirates/Marlins.

Vanden Hurk sent down
2003 whining again....nothing new, just skip. I think all of this is a bit premature, and I just know he does not belong in the bigs right now.

Helms returns to the Fish!
Cantu is seriously an awful defensive third baseman, and he's not all that good offensively. Good input, and your choice for 3b?

Helms returns to the Fish!
I gave him a standing ovation when he came up to pinch hit. One of the few but it felt like the right way to welcome him back. He's going to be a great asset. As did I. I think I even saw you, brown shirt? Yep, I had one on. I thought he got a pretty good applause when he came to bat. Surprised me a bit considering the things he said when he left here. And what did things look like Sunday?? Announced crowd was a bit over 10K. Bet there wasn't 8K actually there. Or in better terms, just the regular hard corps fans showed up. Absolutely beautiful day to be at the ball park and the Fish had a shot at a sweep. Ignorant me was expecting 20K there. At least 15K. But we had some fun with Morgan in the OF. They had him doing the Captain Morgan pose a few times. The kid seems to have a pertty good sense of humor. And damn can he run. Pretty good arm too. Yea, I would say the crowd was under 10k easy. I must say it did turn out to be a beautiful day, I was contemplating on whether to go to the game because I had to be back in Orlando somewhat early. Game weather nice, ride home ehhhh not so much.

IMO it showed us its not just errors but his defensive liabilities are also his fielding is just not up to ML par. Referring to that 1st game, Cantu fielded that bunt as good as he could have, there was no error or anything to fault on Cantu. Let's not get nit picky.
