From his numbers it he looks like he's a sinkerballer. Anyone seen this kid pitch? Low 90's consistantly. Very tall, imposing figure. I saw him in Greensboro and he was dominant when I saw him - touching 95. I believe he was over the top more that year than he was in college and it might have affected his command. (look at his draft video 2007) Have not seen him this year but I believe he is not as over the top like he was in 2008. Great kid. Smart. A winner for the Marlins IMO. Just a matter of time. Cameron Maybin's father?? :mis2 Ha. Just a fan. Not his dad...

Kyle Kaminska Named FSL Pitcher of the Week
JUPITER, FL (May 10, 2010) - Jupiter Hammerheads pitcher Kyle Kaminska was named Monday as the Florida State League's Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 3rd to the 9th. Kaminska tossed a gem on Wednesday, May 5th in Fort Myers, allowing just three hits over eight scoreless innings. The righty struck out seven without allowing a walk. Jupiter's parent club, the Florida Marlins, took a chance at luring Kaminska away from his commitment to play for Michigan State University, and it paid off as the Fish got a major talent in the 25th round of the 2007 June draft. In 2008, Kaminska threw a combined 94.1 innings for Greensboro and Jupiter, despite being just 19 year old. Last year, back in Greensboro, he finished second in innings (142.2), wins (9) and strikeouts (112), and led the starters with a 3.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio. This season, Kaminska is 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 29 innings. Congrats to a baby Marlin for winning this award!!!

Marlins top 10 prospects/projected line-up
I am not sure how to take any of these BA ratings. A guy does less than stellar in Low A/hitter friendly park and he gets rated high. A guy does well at low A/hitter friendly park and some how, that is what he was supposed to do - "it's low A." Same with pitching. It isn't just our guys I'm talking about either - it is every team. Personally, I think if you were drafted in a high round your chance of getting rated high is much better no matter what stats you put up. I'm sure they get scout input, but you always see guys ranked in the top ten who get there only because of their draft status. They have to play themselves out of the top ten...

Out of Albuquerque - AAA Now in New Orleans
I am kind of new...Where was the AAA team before Albuquerque? Edmonton Trappers PCL Technically, it was Calgary, who then moved to Albuquerque. AWESOME news. That will definitely help the pitchers. Never been to New Orleans but it has to be more pitcher friendly than New Mexico. I saw a ball hit there in a Univ of New Mexico game, it may still be circling the planet!

2008 Fall instructional league, Jupiter
Who is participating? Skipworth, I imagine? Whom else? If it is like last year, there will be a fairly high % of the 2008 draftees along with some Jamestown & Greensboro players from this year's teams. Maybe a few rehab guys too... I've been meaning to ask you, how is your son Kyle Kaminska doing? Where did he pitch this year, and how did he do? Also, will he be playing in this fall instructional league? He was in Greensboro most of the year. I would say he had a real "learning experience." Pitching in the SAL is a lot different than it was in high school. He had a high school coach that made him throw 30-40% change ups. ??? One game that I saw him pitch in Rome, I think he threw a total of 3! He is down there now but I am not sure if he will stay the entire two weeks. He kind of ran out of steam at the end. He never threw that much before. I would love to be there and watch some of the new talent we have in the system. Games in Greensboro were awesome. I have to say that it isn't the size of the park that makes it a hitter's paradise, it's the turf IMO. That bermuda grass is really FAST! Much faster than what we see in the Midwest.

Brewers Fire Yost
I just about spilt my coffee when I picked up the sports section.... Are these guys nuts? I can't imagine what purpose this serves. Maybe it was done because you can't fire the players responsible for the collapse.

Out of Albuquerque - AAA Now in New Orleans
Remembering my college pitching days, it is BRUTAL pitching in that light air. I love Alb. & the stadium is second to none but if you are trying to build confidence in a pitching prospect before you bring him up to the bigs, Alb. ain't the place to do it. I remember a few years ago the Lobo's (Univ. of NM) didn't have a starting pitcher with an ERA below 5.50. It changes the way you pitch and throwing in that light/dry air is absolutely nothing like throwing in humd/sea-level air. Your curve don't curve in Alb. so how is a prospect supposed to work on it? Throw it and you get lit up? Slider guys not affected as much. Move to New Orleans IMO. Even if they did move to NO, they would still have to put up with being in the PCL. True, but instead of 70 games in Alb. you would at least get 70 in NO. It would still be better.

Weird year
Not speaking from experience here.... but it probably is a big adjustment switching organizations. When you move the "food chain" with an organization, a lot of people dissapear year to year, but you do have many players you know from year to year. To him this year, almost everyone was new. As I've said before, pitching in Albuquerque is really tough. It's a launching pad.

Some Intresting Transactions
I hope they didn't make Langley drive from Greensboro to Albuquerque and back! Can you imagine?? You're too funny! Actually, when they move these kids they MUST fly to every destination. They either have to ship their cars or get someone to drive their car to their assignment. Very expensive. Langley probably got a good case of jet lag. Maybe he got some free gear out of it!!!

Some Intresting Transactions
Langley is already back in Greensboro. Apparently they were down to one catcher in Albuquerque & needed a body.

Daily Roundup 5/20/08
Sanabia was throwing well all spring (they just moved him up to Greensboro). I hear Paulauskas (7th rounder) is throwing very well now. Keep an eye on Martin, Benjamin IMO. There are a couple "south of the border guys" too but I did not catch their names since they got there kind of late. Extended is over May 31 & then many will be heading for Jamestown. Usually that roster gets announced right before the draft.

Daily Roundup 5/20/08
Roundups are back! BTW, who is this kid Kyle Kaminska? I heard he was dominating yesterday. 19 y/o RHP drafted in the 25th round out of Central HS in Naperville Ill threw 6 innings of no-hit ball. Had previously allowed 11 runs in 9 inninings. He is listed at 6-4 180. He actually was cut after spring training this year but was called for a spot start http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp What do you mean by cut? Like cut from the organization, as in any other team could claim him? Somehow I doubt that. Marlins have always really like him and spend a decent amount of change to get him to skip college. EDIT: I read the article, and what I take it to mean is that the Marlins wanted to hold him back in extended spring training and start him out in short season ball, which starts in about a month or so. Kyle was in extended Spring training - not cut. Much of the Short Season roster for the 2008 Jamestown team this year, who did not initially make a full season team, is still in Jupiter playing a quasi GCL schedule in which they do not keep stats. Durand & recently Sanabia were both called up from extended ST-they were not cut either. The article was kind of misleading how it was worded & used the word "cut." That is often times the problem with assuming everything you read on the internet as fact. This site is very accurate because you have multiple sources. That is why I love reading it.

4/7/08 Daily Wrap
Impressive debut by Kyle Kaminska. This is a guy just drafted last year, still only 19 years old. He was drafted in the 25th round, but would have went a lot earlier if teams thought they could sign him away from Michigan State. Exact same scenario as Dallas Trahern. Michigan State and their pitching coach, Mike Steele, departed ways and that open the professional door for Kyle to sign with the Marlins. Credit the scouting department for figuring that out. Funny thing too is Steele & Kaminska work out together in the off season.
