5. Gaby Sanchez, 1b/3b

6. Ryan Tucker, rhp

9. Scott Cousins, of

10. Jhan Marinez, rhp

Marlins line-up in 2012, obviously they don't pay attention to trade rumors

Catcher Kyle Skipworth First Base Logan Morrison Second Base Chris Coghlan

Third Base Dan Uggla ?!?!?!? Shortstop Hanley Ramirez

Left Field Isaac Galloway Center Field Cameron Maybin Right Field Mike Stanton

No. 1 Starter Josh Johnson No. 2 Starter Chad James

No. 3 Starter Ricky Nolasco No. 4 Starter Chris Volstad

No. 5 Starter Sean West Closer Ryan Tucker

Is Galloway really that good? I honestly don't know much about him but this is the first prospect review I've seen where he's in our long term plans. For those who know, can you offer a comparison player? Is he a power hitter or a speed/defense machine?

I would have thought Peterson would have made top 10

I had him as my Adopt-A-Marlin last year. He is a speedster, although he was caught stealing often. He strikes out a hell of a lot and will need to make big progress to be considered in our long term plans. He does have raw natural ability which he needs to learn how to use better.

Same. He is tearing it up in the AFL right now. I would at least put him ahead of Jhan Marinez.

he reminds me of gathwright, which is not a good thing

Gathright is a horrible comparison. Gathright has a good approach at the plate (Minor league BB/K: 0.68, major league: 0.45), but he has absolutely no power. Not only is his MLB OBP higher than his MLB SLG, even his MILB OBP is higher than his MILB SLG. He hit a grand total of one home run his entire minor league career, and one home run his entire major league career. He's played for 8 seasons, nearly 1000 pro games to his credit, and has a grand total of 2 home runs. Because of this pitchers just absolutely attack him.

Galloway meanwhile has an absolutely terrible approach at the plate, finishing with just a 0.13 BB/K, which was second worse in our entire system. He had OK power though, his isolated power was exactly league average for the South Atlantic League and he was just 19 years old.

The best comp I can find just browsing through the majors is probably Corey Patterson, and I doubt I need to explain why that's not good. Players with that kind of BB/K just don't stick around unless they can mash 30 HRs like Soriano or Jose Guillen.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like he has a lot of work to do to be considered as part of our long-term future.

I am not sure how to take any of these BA ratings. A guy does less than stellar in Low A/hitter friendly park and he gets rated high. A guy does well at low A/hitter friendly park and some how, that is what he was supposed to do - "it's low A." Same with pitching. It isn't just our guys I'm talking about either - it is every team.

Personally, I think if you were drafted in a high round your chance of getting rated high is much better no matter what stats you put up. I'm sure they get scout input, but you always see guys ranked in the top ten who get there only because of their draft status. They have to play themselves out of the top ten...

Pretty crazy Smolinski, Petersen, and Hand aren't ahead of the back 3. There's only so much upside you can rank on these. Clearly a fail after the first 7.

Id say its pretty questionable after the first 4.

How so? I think that's the clear top 7 - rank them however you like. But I'm not sure how you can put Gaby, Tucker, and Skipworth behind anyone. Maybe Ceda if he proves healthy, but that's it.

Speaking of which, what's the latest on him? I completely forgot all about him....

Supposedly 80% and improving.

And as a secondary note, Henry Owns, Mike Rabelo, and Carlos Martinez all filed for minor league free agency. Not really any losses there, but those 3 names have been notable in the past.

Id say its pretty questionable after the first 4.

What I was meaning is the top 4 are set, and thats fine, but after that its quite subjective. I also think Dominguez should be ahead of James(who wouldnt be ranked if it were up to me). So basically after the top 2 and Dominguez who should be 3rd, its all a crap shoot.

Sure, I'd put Matt up one as well, but I was just looking to see if you wanted to make an argument that Sanchez, Tucker, and Skipworth aren't as valuable as anyone else in the organization. Because I'd be interested as I absolutely don't see it.

Well Skipworth hasnt been all that good, Sanchez is old and doesnt have much power especially for the position he would be playing, and Tucker has been hurt, if you want specific arguments.

Potential, of course, Skipworth and Tucker deserve to be there. But I think potential should be left off of top prospects list.

I'm so happy Spike has found his new Gaby in Chad James.

he's still bitter we didn't get Shelby Miller. He forgot that we are the Marlins and couldn't afford Miller's signing bonus even if we wanted him.

You think a guy who hasnt thrown a single pitch should be ranked ahead of a guy who had a breakout year and made it to AA in his 2nd full season?

I just think it's awesome that with Gaby's probable graduation to the Majors, you will have another guy to irrationally criticize for the next 4 seasons.

I dont think any of my criticism of Gaby Sanchez has been irrational, since it is based on what scouts have said about him.

But anyway, yes, I dont think highly of Chad James and a good part of it is a much better pitching prospect was still on the board and right now I dislike him out of spite. The fact that he was drafted as a signability pick and still held out pisses me off as well. But personal dislike of the situation with which he came into the organization has nothing to do with me thinking he has no business being a top 10 organizational prospect, and everything to do with the fact that he has yet to throw a pitch at any level.

Most decent prospects make it to AA in their second full season so that's not really an accolade.
