I also don't think recalling Badenhop had much to do with money. Both had great spring trainings. I think it comes down to this: Badenhop is 25 and was still in double A. He looked good in spring training. 25 is nearing the last opportunity for a prospect to make it. By bringing him up, there was no risk to a young guys who still has potential to grow. Hopper is coming into his prime, so if he is going to make it, he had to make it now. That made him the more logical call up. I don't ever remember an instance when $ has made a difference to the Marlins. If it did, Andrew Miller would definitely be in the minors right now.

I'm really inclined to think that the Marlins could have done better than Rabelo if they dealt to two separate teams. Quite frankly I'm not even sure why they bothered. He is marginally better than Treanor, at best. agreed. I don't. I think that Willis's trade value was little if anything. Maybe we could have gotten a Rabelo like player, but I can't imagine getting anything much better.

Yes you can sign cheap pitcher, but not ones that give you a chance to win. I would much rather try an internal solution (like starting Waechter and promoting a AAA pitchter) than sign a crappy pitcher. Paying minimum salary for a rookie and saving money for later is much more appealing than signing a crappy vet. Just because they are a veteran doesn't mean they can keep us in the playoff race. If it was July and we were 10 games under .500, it would be a different story. Then I say don't rush the younguns, until the season is lost, it none of the current free agents are better than what we have.

No such thing as cheap veteran "talent." Only cheap veteran losses. In todays game more than ever, you have to pay for talent.

+1 for Waechter/Nelson

The Best in the NL East.
The Mets definitely have the worst in the East. Or at least tied with the Nats. Cordero sucks for the Nats. Heilman, Schoeneweis, and Sosa (all Mets) are TERRIBLE!!! It's too soon to rate the Mets as the worst in the division. Once their pitching starts to gel they will be difficult to beat. The thing to do though is to strike while they are down. Agreed, seems very unlikely that they will end the year in last. If they hit enough roadbumbs, it might keep them out of the playoffs, but it is too early to tell.

I'd like to see Miller build on his last start. Hopefully he can get some short innings to start the game. Hope Erick gets another winning streak started!

Fredi and the Fish
I agree that Hermida should not be batting third in the order.....at least not right now. I have no beef with Uggla number 2 as long as he keeps getting a couple hits per game. Should be: Ramirez Uggla Jacobs Willingham Hermida Cantu Rabelo Amezega Pitcher Or eventually something like this Amezaga Hermida Ramirez Willingham Jacobs Cantu Uggla Rabelo Pitcher Splitting up the lefties is way overrated. You put your best hitters 3 and 4, period. Talking about eventually with Amezaga in center is kind of silly. Fredi isn't going to move Hanley down the lineup until Maybin is up, then we can talk about realigning things. For now, I'm ok with the way things are. Not because I like it, but because I don't se any advantage in the alternatives. Amezaga isn't going to hit like this all year, and Hermida is going to hit better. If he remains healthy, Hermida will be hitting around .300 at the end of the year with 20+ HR. He is probably the best 3 slot option we have (aside from Hanley, who Fredi isn't going to move). Once we see Maybin, it will look more like this: Maybin Hermida Hanley Jacobs Hammer Uggla Cantu Rabelo Pitcher Until then, I doubt anything will change.

Scott Olsen
yeah, it was just because he was hurt. They are changing it to split up the two rookies and save the bullpen.

2 florida teams in first?
Screw the rays!..... I went up to St. Pete for the third game of the sweep last season, where a bunch of Rays fans made some Racist remarks about being Cuban. And were screaming things at us like "go back to Miami crack heads!". They had no reason to say those things they did. We were proud our team for completed a sweep against the in state rivals. We were all wearing our marlins gear, and we didn't insult any of their fans. Although, I don't think you can beat the prices. We paid 15 bucks a ticket. They were bullpen seats, that came with a voucher for a hot dog, soda, and chips. And, the parking was free. After the game, we ended up bumping into some other random Marlins fans at a gas station and we started talking with them, the guy said he's just a casual fan who stays home and watches the games on tv, but when he saw his team (Marlins) take the first two games, he woke his wife up and packed their stuff because he "had to be in attendance" to watch the Marlins sweep the rays. It's amazing how fans like this stay home and watch the games, and when the team is doing well, this guy decided to drive 3 hours to see a game. I give it to the guy for being a fan. And so much of a fan that he drove 3 hours to see the team play. This shows how the situation must be with the fans that just wont go to dolphin stadium. It really sucks for thos of us who live to far away to make it to many games. I grew up in Naples and the 2 hour drive made it possible to only go to 2 or 3 games a year. Anymore wasn't feasible. It was sad for me to see the attendence problems when I so desperately wanted to go to games. Though I guess moving to CT didn't really help this problem...

Jesus...Trade Olsen?!?! What is with you people? This makes me almost embarassed tp be a Marlins fan... I mean seriously - we are a winning team right now, and our biggest weakness is SP, and you guys want to trade our best SP? Nevermind the fact that he is young and dirt cheap. I mean I could at least understand the argument for trading Hendrickson down the line (although I wouldn't be in such a hurry to do that either), but OLSEN?!?! Who watches a guy go out and give QS every outing, and throw 7.1 innings of shutout baseball, and then says "lets trade him!" You're obviously not aware of how much pitching depth we have in the minors. If they offered Saltalamacchia and Taylor Teagarden, I don't think the Marlins could say no. That offer is never coming. No chance.

Hanley is ridiculous.

So...Jorge Cantu.......
I just love to see Cantu producing. Whether his future is with the team or not, he can be greatly valuable. Hopefully, his defense gets better (6 errors!) Sigh, I miss Perry Hill.

The Injury Report
I feel like the timeline for Mitre keeps getting longer and longer. I won't be optimistic about his return until he actually starts throwing.

? Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... ?Man, I would love to see how much trade value Scott Olsen would have to a team like the Texas Rangers right now... boooo I agree....we need a solid starter, not Salty Pretty sure the Rangers were just an example. There are plenty of other teams that could use a solid 2-3 starter. As nice as it feels to actually have an ace, I didn't have Olsen in the Marlins' rotation in 2010, anyways. So I wouldn't be against seeing him go for the right offer. I really just think we need to wait to see how the rest of our young pitching develops before we think about trading away the closest thing we have to an established commodity. Also, for the record, I'm not keen on a trade with Texas. I don't think Salty will stick at catcher and I don't think Texas is interested in parting with Teagarden. Jeff Clement on the other hand...

Scoreboard: Unproven Lineup
Jake to me has always seem to have lacked a certain amount of concentration in the past. I love seeing get focused on the task at hand. As a bonus, he is stepping up to become a clubhouse leader, which is one of the big things this team has lacked the last couple years. I see this as marking the maturation of Jake from a kid to a big league ballplayer.

Miggy Starts at 1B
Miggy started at 1st today for the Tigers. Looked at the stats, turns out its the second time this season. Yes it is probably temporary caused by the injuries to Sheffield, Polanco, and Granderson (Guillen was the DH), but it is telling that they started Inge at 3B and Cabrera at 1B.

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
The Yankees won the World Series because of Gene Michael (the guy who gave guys like Derek Jeter, Mariano, etc. their chance). Not Brian Cashman. It's just now that Brian Cashman is hanging onto prospects. He has 3 DH's on the team (Damon, Matsui, Giambi). He has at least 1 of those 3 guys on the bench every night earning at least 10+ mill. 10+ mill that he could've invested on a quality pitcher (or 2) to give him innings, knowing he had 2 unproven rookies in his starting rotation this year. Not to mention, the ridiculous contracts guys like Giambi now have (can't get rid of him). Mussina (can't get rid of him). He continues signing guys to terrible contracts. Even ARod...I would never sign anyone at the age of 30, to a 10 year contract. Sorry. As for Beane, still don't see what he's done that Beinfest hasn't. Player development? He's made his share of mistakes as well for all the "money ball" talk. Trading Aaron Harang for basically nothing to the Reds hasn't turned out to be a dandy, for example. Just don't see the big deal about him. Epstein and Dombrowski, I actually think they deserve the credit, there. And Schuerolz with the Braves is very good also, I can't complain about those 3, if you want to put them ahead of Admin Beinfest. Brian Cashman is a definite no, though. I think it is very difficult to view Cashman objectively since he only recently gained full control over the front office. In the days when the Yanks were trading away all their young talent of old over-payed sluggers, most of those moves came from above his head. When he signed his extension a few years back, George promised to stop interfering, and for the most part he did (with the exception of the Torre thing). It will be interesting to see if the Yanks stay the course or if Hank decides he needs to make his mark (see statements about Joba today). I think that Cashman is either vastly over rated or vastly underrated. In my opinion, we really need to see how the current crop of young guns pans out before judgement can be past. Everything from before has Steinbrenner fingerprints all over it. By the way, given his resources, I probably have Beinfest in the top ten. Top 5: Schurholtz Beane Theo Kevin Towers Josh Byrnes

Ideas for names
Bacardi Field at the Orange Bowl? I would love to see some kind of Orange Bowl tribute in the name.
