Well, we might not be favorites, and you don't hear the word "best" with us very often, but I'd say we have the best bullpen in the division...at least the deepest. Your thoughts?

Cordero stinks. The Wookie is awesome though.

I'd have to agree. Every pitcher that recorded at least 10 innings out the bullpen last year had an ERA under 4 with the exception of two (who barely posted over 10 inn. anyway).

 

We are very deep... I'd expect Gregg to be dealt at the All-Star break. His value should be pretty good, and by then we'll have 3-4 guys who could all be ready to take the ninth (Matt Lindstrom, Henry Owens, Carlos Martinez, Justin Miller). Maybe even Kensing...

Phillies might be better as well.

Well considering that bullpens aren't even assigned yet it's kind of hard to compare them.

I agree about the Braves bullpen being arguably better, but one X-factor in that, is that they won't have to pitch as many innings as Marlins relievers will, and therefore will have "fresher" arms and will be able to sustain performances longer into the season

The Phillies don't count...their bullpen sucks.

 

The other 3 teams have solid pens, but look at this:

 

Reliable arms in our pen:

Kevin Gregg

Justin Miller

Lee Gardner

Taylor Tankersley

Logan Kensing

Reynel Pinto

Matt Lindstrom

 

Then guys like Carlos Martinez and Henry Owens as guys who fill in, just in case.

 

Not too many teams have 2 quality lefties in the bullpen...I think we do. All those guys have very good stuff also...except for Gardner, but Gardner is awesome because he challenges the hitter, at all times, throwing strikes.

One of the strong points on this team? Yes.

 

Best in the NL East? Nope, though not far behind at all.

 

Mets have the edge.

Outside of Benetiz and HE'S OUR GUY, our pen was better than there's last year, and now we don't have those guys to weigh us down. Is there some elite guy they brought in that I don't remember? Cuz if they stood pat/only added average guys, we're going to be better next year.

Our bullpen was tremendous. Gregg clearly had some control issues as well as Pinto, but they both got out of it, and everyone else pitched perfectly. It looks like Thursday's day off is going to benefit us

Gregg DID have some control issues...then again, he didn't have his prescription glasses on for some reason. Why did he take them off?

Maybe Gregg had Lasik Eye Surgery as well. I saw him trying out his glasses after the inning he pitched. Laughing afterwards

As long as they're good to go for the rest of the season, it's cool. But it's kinda tough to pitch when you need prescription glasses, and you don't have them. He almost looked like Rick Vaughn (take away 5-7 mph on the fastball).

The Marlins are, I believe, Top 3 in the Majors in Bullpen ERA. Surprisingly though, the Phillies pen is 2nd in that category to the Rays pen. The Marlins pen, however, has thrown more innings than the Rays and Phils pen.
