  1. The pirates are like a dumpster.
  2. i just remembered that Alfonseca was called El pulpo, because he has an extra finger.
  3. Wasn't Hanley Ramirez also referred to as "Shadez" at least on this board when he first came to the Marlins? Yeah he was, he also calls himself H2R, and rotoworld pick up on it recently.
  4. Matt Mantei: The ice man. He even had his very own ice girls cheering him on.
  5. ESPN's worst nightmare? A Marlins team that wins. Rawrrrr well to bad for them that we´re the second most annoying team in baseball. LOL
  6. I'm giving honorable mention to Espada. This is the kind of aggressiveness we were told he would bring to the coaching position, not the type he demonstrated in ST and first week or so of the regular season. Are you still not aware that Espada was coaching for the team last season? Or are you still that clueless? Going into ST Edwin was quoted as saying Joey was going to be more aggressive as the 3B coach this season. Maybe if you tried to keep up with the adults and stopped trying to be so insulting things would go more smoothly. I trust Espeda as the 3b coach. If he decides not to send someone, its because he feels its either because the runner wont make it, or theres no point in being aggressive for whatever reason. He showed last year, that he´s aggressive without being stupid like his predecessor.
  7. Thats true, That can be fixed by rearranging the lineup, guys who get on base at near or over a .400 clip should be at the top....
  8. 1. coghlan 2. sanchez 3. morrison 4. hanley 5. stanton 6. who cares I like that you have a platoon of Dobbs-Helms batting 6th followed by Buck and Infante. On another note, Fish need to start scoring runs earlier on a more consistent basis, tough to keep winning ballgames when you have to crawl back from early deficits I think thats because they were facing Oswalt and Hamels. I´m not worried about that.
  9. I thought edwin should have gone for the squeeze in the 7th, with Infante up and boni on 3rd and one out, and cogs should at least being running there. Infante needs to be move down on the order, the guy wont repeat the year he had last year, Gaby/Lomo should be hitting second. But when gaby or lomo do get moved up and get on base, who will drive them in? Not infante One of the two is being wasted hitting 6th, Hanley and Stanton will get it going. I get lomo hitting 5th for two reasons: 1. to split the lefties 2. hes shown more power this year.

  16. 11:23am: Fernando Perez is going to the Cubs, according to Miles. The 27-year-old outfielder has a .234/.301/.351 line in 107 big league plate appearances. He hit .223/.280/.299 in 426 plate appearances at Triple-A last year. 10:45am: The Cubs and Rays have agreed to a trade that will send Matt Garza to Chicago, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. Chris Archer, Brandon Guyer, Robinson Chirinos, Hak-Ju Lee and Sam Fuld head to Tampa for Garza, a minor-league pitcher and a minor-league outfielder, Levine reports. Garza, 27, posted a 3.91 ERA with 6.6 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and a 35.8% ground ball rate in 204 2/3 innings for the Rays last year. He heads to arbitration for the second time this winter and is set to receive a raise from the $3.35MM salary he earned in 2010. Garza would join Ryan Dempster, Tom Gorzelanny, Randy Wells, Carlos Zambrano and Carlos Silva in a crowded Chicago rotation. If the Rays-Cubs deal goes through, it wouldn't be surprising to see Cubs starters appear in trade rumors before long. If any team can afford to part with a starting pitcher, it might be the Rays, who still have David Price, James Shields, Jeff Niemann, Wade Davis and Jeremy Hellickson. The return from the Cubs probably won't impact Tampa's Opening Day roster, but it will add depth to the Rays' already impressive farm system. Baseball America ranked Archer first among Cubs prospects this offseason while Lee placed fourth and Guyer placed tenth. Archer, a 22-year-old right-hander, made it as high as Double-A last year. The starting pitcher posted a 2.34 ERA with 9.4 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9, limiting opponents to 6.4 H/9. The Cubs acquired him from the Indians just over two years ago in the Mark DeRosa trade. Jim Callis of Baseball America notes that Archer is a year away from the majors and could be a closer in the future (Twitter link). It's not a great time to be an up-and-coming shortstop in the Cubs organization, as Starlin Castro figures to be the team's shortstop for years. Lee, who was born seven months after Castro, is also a highly-regarded shortstop. The native of Korea has a .299/.370/.375 line with 57 stolen bases in two pro seasons. When Baseball America ranked Lee sixth among Cubs prospects before the season, the publication described him as a gifted hitter with the tools to make difficult defensive plays. Guyer, who turns 25 this month, posted a .344/.398/.588 line in 410 plate apperances at Double-A last year. He has played all three outfield positions in his four-year minor league career. Chirinos, who turns 27 this month, has infield experience, but has primarily been a catcher in 2009-10. He hit .326/.416/.583 with 18 home runs in the upper minors last year. Fuld, 29, has a .252/.368/.344 line in 155 big league plate appearances spread over three seasons. The outfielder has spent most of his six-year pro career in the minors, where he has a .285/.372/.405 line. ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears from a talent evaluator that the Rays' haul gives them depth, but not necessarily impact players (Twitter link). MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo agrees and notes that Archer and Lee have some good upside (Twitter link). Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald and Levine both reported that the deal was close this morning. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  17. Renteria is worth 6 million according to sabernomics, so hes right..
  18. Cameron makes $7+ million and Ellsbury is no sure thing Yeah, but if Boston considered paying at least Half of Blanton´s contract, perhaps they would add eat all but the minimum of Cameron´s 7 million.
  19. It seems the Phils tried to get him for Blanton. Volstad put up similar numbers last year but is cheaper....Would the Red Sox eat up Cameron´s salary in a straight up deal?
  20. Yeah, as much as I am lukewarm on Vazquez, if the Marlins are only going to spend money on another starter, and not a closer or thirdbaseman, then fine. But I would prefer to sign either a centerfielder or someone who can fill in at 3rd. Miguel Tejada could be had for around $5 mil most likely. Bill Hall can be had for 3 million, but hopefully Beinfest knows best.
  21. Not when Zach Duke and Jeff Francis will sign on the cheap. I'm sure we could pay Moyer in bran at this point. lol, well even a spring training invite has an opportunity cost.
  22. Not when Zach Duke and Jeff Francis will sign on the cheap.
  23. Someone in the Fangraphs article put it well: Buck is basically the Mike Jacobs of catching. well Mike Jacobs was a catcher coming up....
  24. It might just be Jeff Francis. He had an era of 5.00 but his whip was comparable to De la Rosa´s, who´s probably going to fleece some team into paying him 36 million. Chris Young will go for an incentive laden contract, but all it might take to get Francis is a guaranteed contract b/w 1-3 million. The reason aside from his deceptively poor season last year, is that he had shoulder surgically in 2008 and it nagged him last season.
  25. I don´t know, I was hoping they would bring in AJ Pierzynski and Gregg Zaun...Hopefully Buck´s time in Toronto wasn't that much of a fluke.
