April 14, 200422 yr I'm not going to put much weight into these comments. It really isn't clear how the questions were asked. It could have been "how do feel sitting on the bench after you hit 10 HRs in ST? Don't you think you deserve to start?" It's always difficult to understand the whole interview when they don't publish the questions, and then edit the answers.
April 14, 200422 yr Well he can prove himself on a team like the Devil Rays or someone like that. Somewhere where they could actually use him every day and not on a team that just won the WS and is playing so well together.
April 14, 200422 yr Im not cutting the guy slack. He only wants to play b/c he feels the clock is running out and he wants a big pay later in the future. I dont want a guy like this on my team. He is giving a hard time b/c he wants to play somewhere else so the Marlins trade him, he starts playing and hopefully 2-3 years down the line he gets the the $$ hes always seeked. Its not the marlins fault he developed late...he could've won a starting spot any year till last year so stop whining Nunez.
April 14, 200422 yr Tell Nunez he'd be the starter if he was three years younger. Give Banks his $400k and give Nunez the door.
April 14, 200422 yr i wouldn't be surprised if Nunez, knowing that the team has discussed him trade talks, is making comments like this to see if he can't force the team's hand and make them trade him. he's gotta know that his best chance to see serious playing time and prove his worth is right now. he can't think that will happen with the Marlins, but if they won't trade him, he has no chance.
April 14, 200422 yr Damn, u guys don't even know him, and ur acting like u know his every thought. :mad :
April 14, 200422 yr What do U guys expect? He wants to prove himself at the major league level and is hungry to play. I don't find anything wrong with that. Did you expect him to be happy on the bench, when he's a young guy like this? For the older bench players, they know they can't start, but Nunez just wants to prove himself. I don't see nething wrong with that. True....
April 14, 200422 yr I don't want Nunez gone, he is a valuable bench player. Our bullpen is not best, but it is decent. We can't count on all of our starter to be healthy for the entire season. I say keep Nunez, unless another GM call with a deal you can't refuse to take. Jack will resolve this situation. In Jack I trust.
April 14, 200422 yr I just want to know where all the bench Choi start Nunez people are. Choi sucks. Choi is not exactly hot.... ba .200 When Nunez get his chance to start on regular basis than we can make a comparison.
April 14, 200422 yr Anyone want to remind this guy that he hit those homeruns off of guys that are probably delievering packages for UPS today?? Zach Day is delivering packages for UPS? Great! That should give us a big advantage tomorrow when we're supposed to be facing him against the Expos. Nunez wants to play. I'd rather have a guy that's frustrated and wants to play sitting on my bench than somebody who's happy to collect a major league paycheck. I agree he shouldn't have said anything but we don't know what the questions were that elicited these responses. I'm not a big Nunez fan at all. I think he's gonna be a bust. But I think this is pretty much a non-story.
April 14, 200422 yr He expects to start? That was only Spring training, most of the pitchers he faced in Spring Training are rookies trying to win a spot. He didnt show nothing when he started the game on Sunday. He expects to start over Conine, Pierre and Cabs? I would tell him good luck if he does....
April 14, 200422 yr Sounds like he's starting to believe your poster, Ramp..... I really don't think Nunez has a case here. Sure he did well in Spring Training, but his Major League track record isn't even close to the other guys in the OF. Plus, ANYBODY can do well in Spring Training (except Garth Brooks, I guess). I can understand his anxiousness. He's not getting any younger, and his prospect tag is pretty much off. There's a thin line between prospect and journeyman, and Nunez is finding that out the hard way. I think he could start for a handfull of teams, and he's probably started his entire Minor League career, so he's not used to riding the pine. But people make an entire career from coming off the bench (See: Harris, Lenny), so Nunez could have a future.
April 14, 200422 yr If this is true, Nunez should just keep his mouth shut. First of all, he lied about his age and he's STILL on our team. That shows how much we want him. Second of all, he hasn't proved anything yet to be talking this crap. I could understand if he's unhappy but can't he keep his mouth shut? My guess is he wants to be traded and prove himself elsewhere. I'm gonna laugh when we trade him and he goes on to hit 2 homers with a below .200 batting average. This is called player development and if he hadn't lied about his age, maybe he would be starting for a major league team already.
April 14, 200422 yr Tell Nunez he'd be the starter if he was three years younger. Give Banks his $400k and give Nunez the door. lololololololol
April 14, 200422 yr I just want to know where all the bench Choi start Nunez people are. Choi sucks. I'm right here. Choi started off good. and i was one of those people chanting "Hee Seop Choi" Saturday night. I felt that nunez had the hot bat to start off the season. That was my opinion. I love choi hitting homeruns but there is more to the game then that. he is batting .200 it's early and i know he could bring it up as the season goes on, but if he doesn't and stays at .200 it's time to bench him..

April 15, 200422 yr What the big deal? The guy should be satisfy sitting on the bench? He might have case here that Jack just doesn't trust him because he hardly started games in ST. Is not even fair to judge Nunez base on those 4 at bats. When he get a fair amount of at bats than we can talk.
April 15, 200422 yr I just want to know where all the bench Choi start Nunez people are.? Choi sucks. Choi is not exactly hot.... ba .200 When Nunez get his chance to start on regular basis than we can make a comparison. To that add, 1 more HR and 2 BB

April 15, 200422 yr I'm happy for Nunez to see him take advantage of the opportunity tonight and get a very nice base hit!
April 15, 200422 yr I completely understand where you guys are coming from but really the marlins cant spare a solid prospect like him any more, lets mot forget they got rid of there top prospect last year for a player we kept a half a season. And we also cant forget that Conine isnt that young any more. So he wont get much playing time but he is well worth the bench space, seeing as he needs at least a year or two in the bigs before he can start regularly. WE CANT LET HIM GO.
April 15, 200422 yr We need to keep Nunez and see how the season progresses. Someone could get hurt, or we may need a good bargaining chip come mid-season. Either way, there doesn't appear to be an urgent need to move him now.
