April 29, 200422 yr It's not time to panic. We've got the division lead, I would wait til June, when AJ's almost ready to come back, evaluate the bullpen situation then, and then make a move if needed. Hopefully Nunez will keep on hitting well, and Choi continues to prove that he will be our first baseman of the future. Then you can shop Nunez and Stokes for a big name reliever come trade deadline time.
April 29, 200422 yr Yea, I definately am suprised Frank was called up before Ben Howard. I'm not, Howard is still getting used to being a reliever. I think will see him sometime in May or June.
April 29, 200422 yr Howard has given up more homeruns and walks and has less strikeouts than Gracesqui.
April 29, 200422 yr Howard has given up more homeruns and walks and has less strikeouts than Gracesqui. Howard is much more seasoned. Frank has never faced a major league batter in his life. Kind of a risk for a 1st place team, don't ya think?
April 29, 200422 yr Spooney would be a big help right now.... *sigh* hope Foxy is okay. opportunity for Gracesqui ("Gracy"?) to step up though.
April 29, 200422 yr I hope that Fox's injury isnt too serious, but if it is I would wait until A.J. comes back and then trade Oliver and maybe a bench player for another arm out of the pen. I have never seen this kid pitch but have heard alot about him, hopefully he will live up to expectations like our other call ups.
April 29, 200422 yr Tough news on regarding Fox. We are really going to miss him....so hopefully some R & R will get him back healthy. I'm anxious to see what Gracesqui can do in the bigs. He looked great in ST..and came in during the middle innings several times to face the better bats and did well. I'm glad he got the call instead of Tejera.

Kind of a risk for a 1st place team, don't ya think? The last thing I want to see are all these lefties in the pen but what are you going to do? I understand your point about Howard but obviously Beinfest, Jennings and Woodson think differently. My guess is you're going to be seeing more of Wayne, alot more, in the next few weeks. And I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marlins scouting Ricky Botallico and if they like what they see pry him away from the Mets who are keeping him as insurance. He pitched well in ST and is continuing to impress in AAA. I know there's alot of negative feelings about the guy here but I see him filling the Rick Helling role, a veteran with lots of smarts in his salad days. Helling often had nothing last year but outsmarted hitters consistently. While Ricky can't be used as a spot starter the way Helling could, he does know HOW to close even if the smoke is gone. And as someone who can share the setup role with Wayne (wow, talk about all your cards falling in place, boy he must be thrilled how this has all played out for him) there's a chance he might be good for half a season or more. Right now you;re just trying to get to trading time.
April 29, 200422 yr hmmm ... I know the pen has been pretty good overall except for the colorado series (which can be forgiven for obvious reasons) but im still not sold... i'd say Beinfest is on the phone checking things out. Grasequi pitched well in the spring ... we are gonna miss Fox
April 29, 200422 yr Three lefties! Yikes. I don't think we need to trade for a reliever yet. There's a lot of guys who can get the job done, and I'd much rather see how they do while paying them nothing than trade for a Roberto Hernandez and be giving him a million and giving up prospects and roster flexibility.
April 29, 200422 yr Ben Howard is now learning how to prepare mentally to pitch in relief after being a starter for his whole career. I think the Marlins want to give him more time to get acclimated before calling him up.
April 29, 200422 yr Just look at it this way, were 14-7 with fox pitching like crap.. Just imagine Frank steps in and betters what fox has done or even wayne as a set up and we could be in better shape till fox gets better. then when hes back you give frank the experience in the bigs and might be enough to send oliver down promote wayne to fifth starter when fox gets back
April 29, 200422 yr NOOOOOOOOOOOO Bottalico...He's like Mike Williams but ten times worse.....This is devastating to me as Fox was one of the few who didnt give me heartburn. It's good to know why he hasnt been pitching well....Isn't it a little coincidence though? Not pitching well...uh oh...i might be hurt. hmm
April 29, 200422 yr not only do I miss spoony, but I wouldn't mind seeing his wife again :whistle I wouldn't Mind a Bottalico or someone that has more than 15 games in mayors ... our bullpen is as inexperienced as it gets.
April 29, 200422 yr Just a thought: could Gracesqui's call up be influenced by the Pac-Bell swing (especially with Bonds)? I mean, he's a solid lefty reliever, I'm sure that the fact that we're facing the dominant lefty hitter had a little to do with him being called up over Howard...

I had the exact same thought yesterday.

April 29, 200422 yr I dont think it will have any effect on Bonds...we are going to walk him anyway. I really wish we would demote or release a position player and bring up another reliever, so we can sort through these guys and find something that sticks.
April 29, 200422 yr I dont think it will have any effect on Bonds...we are going to walk him anyway. If they need someone to walk Barry Bonds, just give me a uni and I'm out there. I can miss the plate with the best of them.
