Frankly Gracesqui - S - FLA Apr. 28 - 8:44 pm et

Marlins recalled LHP Franklin Gracesqui from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Gracesqui had a 2.45 ERA in eight relief appearances for Albuquerque. He'll take over as the third lefty in the Florida pen.

Chad Fox - R - Marlins Apr. 28 - 8:47 pm et

Marlins placed RHP Chad Fox on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

It had been exactly a year since Fox last went on the DL, so he was overdue for another injury. His absence will push Nate Bump and Justin Wayne into setup roles.

Hes taking the spot of Chad Fox, who was placed on the 15-day DL with right elbow inflammation. He will be going to see Dr. Andrews, the famous elbow doctor who treated Burnett and Spooney. "Right elbow inflammation" can turn out to be very serious, I certainly hope not. Not to jump the gun, but thats how they termed Burnetts and Spooneys injuries at first.

Thank you Ross.

I hope that's why Fox was rather awful lately.

Fox placed on the 15-day DL

DENVER -- Marlins reliever Chad Fox was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to Tuesday, with inflammation in his right elbow.

Fox, who has battled through two Tommy John surgeries and a third elbow operation, will visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday.

The Marlins recalled left-handed pitcher Franklyn Gracesqui from Triple-A Albuquerque. Gracesqui will join the team in San Francisco on Thursday.

"He said last night he had a little tingle or something and they said he had right elbow inflammation," manager Jack McKeon said.

Fox headed back to South Florida immediately after the Marlins defeated the Rockies, 9-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field.

The 33-year-old Fox has struggled of late, suffering the defeat after he was charged with three runs in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 13-10 loss.

Over his last four outings, he has given up seven earned runs in three innings.

Fox is the Marlins' primary setup reliever for closer Armando Benitez.

The Marlins will now turn to Nate Bump, Justin Wayne, Tommy Phelps and Matt Perisho to fill Fox's role. Bump is the logical eighth-inning reliever.

"I'm just hoping for the best for him," Bump said of Fox. "I'm hoping it's not too much more than a few days off."

Signed by the Marlins last August, Fox played an important part down the stretch in helping lead the team to the World Series.

A power pitcher with a hard slider, Fox has struck out 17 batters in 10 2/3 innings.

His career has been mired with injuries. Fox spent time on the disabled list in 1998 (right shoulder inflammation), 1999 (right elbow strain) and 2000 (fractured right elbow). Twice in 2002 he was on the DL with a right elbow ligament strain and a strained right rotator cuff.

He missed the 2000 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. A year earlier, Andrews performed reconstructive elbow surgery.

"You hope he can come back," Benitez said. "He's a great guy."

Pitching coach Wayne Rosenthal detected a mechanical flaw in Fox's delivery the other day.

"I looked at the film and we came up with something mechanical," Rosenthal said. "We fine-tuned it."

On a side note, does anyone know for sure how to pronounce Gracesqui? Is it like grace-es-kwee or gra-chess-key or something different?

edit: I found it in the media guide. Its pronounced gruh-SESS-kee.

Damn, there goes our set-up man. No wonder he was pitching bad these 2 last Relief Appearances.

He should of told Mckeon his arm hurted before he pitched. I know his arm had to hurt.

At least were giving Gracesqui a chance. I wanted him to make the team in the first place but Perisho has been a pleasant surprise and very good thus far. Just gives the team more depth in the lefty side so we don't burn out Phelps or Perisho.

I was hoping we'd see Gracesqui, but not at the cost of Chad Fox. Oh well...injuries happen. They did last year and as it turns out we found Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera.

Maybe we find a capable setup man and when Fox returns have two guys with setup ability. Maybe Gracesqui proves to be a solid addition and pushes out a weaker arm when Fox returns.

In the meantime for all the talk of Wayne and Bump we will soon see who is capable of doingthe job and who is not.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Gracesqui pitch in the bigs, but I hate it for Fox, I guess we're just gonna have to keep our fingers crossed and hopefully he'll be back soon.

Man that sucks. The first injury bug to hit us this year. I've heard a lot about this Gracesqui guy. He K's a lot of guys doesn't he? Three lefties though? Maybe a Ben Howard call up at some point if Gracesqui works out fairly well, but I hope Chad will be alright. He was a huge part of this team last year and I would hate to see him go down. It wasn't from overuse. Fox has a HUGE history of injuries, and if anything he should have been hurt in the palyoffs last year as much as he pitched. He had been K'ing people at incredible rates before he started struggling though.
