Guest FishFanInPA
What a surprise, The D-Backs have great averages against him. I'd love to know what regular in the MLB has a .200 avg vs. him or below.
zzdunlapj
What a surprise, The D-Backs have great averages against him. I'd love to know what regular in the MLB has a .200 avg vs. him or below. Did a little research and found that these successful major leaguers have struggled against DO (and with a decent amount of ABs) Griffey - .111 - 18 AB Garrett Anderson - .150 - 20 AB Vizquel - .083 - 24 AB Edgardo Alfonzo - .059 - 17 AB Olerud - .176 - 17 AB Bret Boone - .118 - 17 AB Luis Castillo - .000 - 12 AB And on the other end of the spectrum, let's hope that DO never has to face the Yankees while he is pitching for the Fish... Jason Giambi vs. Darren Oliver: 22 for 35 - .629 = ownage
farmer_fran
The pressure's really on Oliver tonight. Tejera's pitching lights out in AAA, and I think the Front Office will make a hard run at Helling if Oliver sucks again today.

Wild Card
I seriously don't see what Beinfest saw in Darren. He overpaid for crap. Helling is much better, and Tejera could be much better given the chance. Just say no to Darren Oliver. *Points to avatar*
farmer_fran
I also want to bring up another point about Tejera. Boog was talking to Toby Borland about a week ago about pitching in Albuquerque and he said it was like pitching in Colorado because of the elevation and that he couldn't throw his Curve very well, and had to learn how to throw more sinkers. Tejera's best pitch is his curve, and if the elevation is affecting his curveball like it was Toby's and he's still pitching this well, that's pretty impressive. I believe we could see Tejera back up here very soon.
Hotcorner
that's a good point about comparing Oliver to Tejera.... yeah Oliver had a fair W-L record with the Rockies last year but look at his numbers, they're terrible. I'm not gonna sit here & try to tout Tejera as anything special, but did they really think Michael Tejera couldn't come out & put up an ERA of at least 5.00? For less money? Over 2002-2003 he started 25 games with an ERA of right around 4.5. Is there anyone who wouldn't take that right now?

QuickGold
Yahoo! Sports Game Preview With their offense finally showing signs of life, the Florida Marlins hope to generate some momentum when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a four-game series at Pro Player Stadium. The Marlins are coming off a 6-2 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday, marking the first time in six games that they scored more than three runs. Florida manager Jack McKeon juggled his lineup for the game, swapping Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre at the top of the batting order. The pair responded by combining to go 5-for-8 in the game. ``Our catalysts are those two guys,'' Florida's Lenny Harris said. ``When they get on, we're on. When they struggle, it seems like we all struggle.'' Florida's Mike Lowell hit two home runs in Thursday's win, tying him for the NL lead with 13. Lowell has hit nine of those homers in just four games. Despite Thursday's win, the Marlins come in with losses in four of their last six, to fall out of first place in the NL East. Florida is 11-14 since starting the season 11-4. Arizona, meanwhile, comes into the game struggling, with losses in six of its last eight. The Diamondbacks did manage to win two of three in Atlanta this week, giving them a positive start to their season-high 13-game road trip. The Diamondbacks should get a big boost on Friday from the return of first baseman Richie Sexson. He had been on the disabled list for three weeks with a partially dislocated left shoulder. Arizona decided to bring Sexson back to the majors immediately, instead of sending him on a minor league rehabilitation assignment. ``Getting Richie back will definitely be a positive,'' manager Bob Brenly said. ``But we've got to be realistic. He has not seen live pitching in three weeks.''
