August 2, 200422 yr i believe we're about 6 out in the division and 5.5 in the wildcard. if we believe we can make the playoffs we might have to consider the wc as a possibility. frankly i dont give a damn how we do it at this point.
August 2, 200422 yr It seems to me that it'd be easier to win the division than the Wild Card. I'm glad the Division has been quite mediocre this year and the moves we made seem like this team can be solid.
August 2, 200422 yr Author The Giants are playing the Cards tonight on ESPN. We need the Giants to lose.

August 2, 200422 yr with 5 teams ahead of us and 5.5 games back, we barely have a legitimate shot at the wild card. just to put things in perspective, this is how the NL looked last year at the trade deadline, after 7/31: NL W L GB WP RS RA ATL 71 37 - .657 620 520 SFG 68 40 3.0 .630 514 440 PHI 60 47 10.5 .561 513 419 FLA 59 49 12.0 .546 516 481 HOU 58 50 13.0 .537 530 457 STL 56 52 15.0 .519 605 536 ARI 56 52 15.0 .519 484 445 COL 56 55 16.5 .505 597 587 MON 55 54 16.5 .505 488 503 LAD 54 53 16.5 .505 367 355 CHC 54 53 16.5 .505 485 477 PIT 49 57 21.0 .462 486 516 CIN 49 59 22.0 .454 511 621 NYM 44 64 27.0 .407 446 555 MIL 44 64 27.0 .407 480 580 SDP 42 67 29.5 .385 452 571 we were 1.5 games behind only one team (phils) for the wild card, and we had the 4th best record in the NL. i wish we had a real shot at the WC, but it looks like we should be thinking about our division right now.
August 2, 200422 yr Author We are 5 games behind the Padres in the loss column. It isn't that unreasonable considering that the Cubs and Giants will not play with each other or the Padres too much and that the Astros and Phillies lead us by only half a game.
August 2, 200422 yr I dont care if we win the wild card or the divsion as long as we are playing in October, and I hope the moves made by the FO will help that happen.
August 2, 200422 yr Author BTW, the Phils will play the Pads, the Cubs play the Rox, The Giants play the Reds, and the Astros play the Braves.
August 2, 200422 yr I'm with those who say that I don't care how we get in, as long we get to the playoffs... However, realistically, I don't see the Wild Card coming out of the NL East. I think the Braves will slow down and we have to start making our push now.... No need to wish the Giants a loss either. That's not nice... :confused

August 6, 200422 yr Wow, Houston was supposed to be one of the if not the best team in the NL and look at that
August 6, 200422 yr The 2003 Wild Card Thread is a Hall of Fame thread. Can't argue with results, lets keep this thread active like that one was last season.
August 6, 200422 yr Which team do you think we can overcome easier? The Braves or Cubs. Now that the Cubs have their pitching rotation back and Nomar, they will be tough. The Braves maybe easier to overcome but they have been playing lights out baseball. One thing is for sure: We need to go on a long winning streak.
August 6, 200422 yr Right now, we are 21-29. we are 10.5 games out of WC ( http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings?ty...rder=false&st=2 ). We have 45 games before the all star break left (July 13). If we can climb back to .500, at the current pace of things we will be about 6 games back from first. 27-18 is what we will have to do to get back to .500. If we can do this, I think we may have a shot and perhaps the Marlins are dealing for the playoff run instead of dealing to help someone else's team for the playoff run. Ahh, yes...memories. Ironically, it was our getting swept by the Expos that pushed me over the edge - into foundamentalistic belief that we were good enough to win it all last year. I think that this current team is just as good - no, better - than last year's team. What is good to see is that we struggled pretty early on even with Fudge - but we dont have that luxury now. Just like last year, we have problems with the Expos. I dont think we are going to win the WC this year - that will belong to the Cubs. I am in Chicago and ever since Nomar, that team has woken up. I think we have a better chance of winning the NL East. Either way, we ARE getting into the playoffs. We have the best team in the NL East.
August 6, 200422 yr Our guys just don't have it this year. Actually...they have it, but they just don't use it. I'm slowly adjusting to the fact that there likely will be no postseason this year. And it SUCKS. :mad :
August 6, 200422 yr Oh yee of little faith. Chin up. We have seen far more opposition than what is laid before us this season. So have some faith.
August 6, 200422 yr We're all a bunch of pussies...there's still two months left in the season, and a a six game lead can evaporate in a matter of days. So let's sit back, relax, and watch our Marlins go on a tear. write it down.....it's only a matter of time...once the team comes together around the new guys, watch out, ATL.
August 6, 200422 yr a six game lead can evaporate in a matter of days. 498382[/snapback] It can? You think all of a sudden we're gonna win 6 games in a row and all the teams infront of us are going to all of a sudden lose 6 games in a row if that is even possible.

August 6, 200422 yr damn...thats a lot of teams that we need to leapfrog lets take it one at a time first target.....pass the astros lets go fish!

August 6, 200422 yr All the Marlins can do is win, I don't give a damn what any other team does as long as there is a W next to marlins every night
