Those that have known me for a while, know how much I disagree with the organization for taking Hermida over Kazmir in 2002 draft. I ask you this now do you think Kazmir could have pitch for the Fish in that double-header in Chicago(or today vs the Expos), if he was in the Marlins farm system? A Kazmir, Willis, Pavano, Beckett and Burnett would be a nasty rotation. True Kazmir is still young, and Hermida could still be a great MLB in the coming years....BUT right now Hermida is still in single A and Kazmir is in the ML pitching very well for the Rays. The bottomline is we could have use Kazmir NOW!....and Yes I'm still bitter :p

lol dude you cant look at it liek that. theres no way to know that kazmir would have developed the same way in our farm system. Theres alot of intangibles. Imagine if we wouldve kept Johan Santana...or flip it if the DRAYS wouldve taken beckett instead of Mr. Drug Abuse

Johan had as much chance of becoming a marlin as Shaq

Very true, but Admin can look back. I was up on my soap box beating on my chest for the fish to take him in the first round a couple of days before the draft. Also true the Santana thing, but that was not on the watch of this regime. Dealin Dave was so infatuated with pitcher who lite up the gun, that he didn't realize who he was trading and for what?

Back to Kazmir he was the "top" rated picther in that draft and a lefty. It should have been a no brainer. I guess I shouldn't second guess this organization too much.

With pitchers, especially High School pitchers, there are always going to be questions of when the arm is going to go out. College pitchers have an advantage draft wise because they have already had their Tommy John done and can go on and compete at higer levels without the arm injury hanging over their heads. The younger the pitcher is, I feel the greater the chance that arm will go. Just look at AJ, Dempster or even Kerry Wood, all were young when they made it to the majors and all have gone under the knife. Is Kazmir going to befall the same fate who knows, but I'll still take Hermida over him anyday. I'd also take Scott Olsen over Kazmir too.

rotations dont have 5 studs.

it never works.

you also have to recall that the organization had a LOT of young pitching depth in the minors at the time.

Hermida will be fine for us in 2 years.

If we had Kazmir, there is no guarantee he would even be up, in fact, i'd be willing to bet the D-rays are the only organization that he would currently be playing in the majors (maybe the royals). Hermida is doing just fine, and by looking at our farm system, our pitching is far better than our positional prospects. If you really want to get upset, get mad at signing Charles Johnson back in 2001, not only was that a waste of a contract but it cost us a 1st round pick in the loaded 2001 draft, among those we could have drafted - Jeremy Sowers (didnt sign, but was top ten pick this year), Kris Honel (top prospect with ChiSox), Bobby Crosby (SS Oak), David Wright (3B NYM)and Dallas McPherson (3B Ana).

One more point about Johan Santana, in the 1999 Ruvle V draft, Minnesota had the 1st pick and Florida had the 2nd pick, the teams agreed to a prearranged deal involving santana and camp and cash, so we never really had santana or had a chance at santana.

I may be wrong, but the ONLY reason we didn't draft Kazmir was because he wanted waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money.

Cost effective, I'll take Hermida.

I dont think Kazmir will be around for too long. He has great stuff, sure, but he is being used veryearly and rushed in my opinion. Besides, we have quite a stable of young pitchers already in place that will be ready in a few years. And Mr. Hermida will be ready too and he could be one hell of a hitter.

We need young hitters right now more than young pitching. Besides, we only need to fill AJ's one start. Kensing could get the call or so could Howard. I think both have just as much of a chance as beating the Braves as does Kazmir at this point.

Well, I doubt Kaz is up if he is in our system.

That's my opinion anyways.
