Does re-signing Benitez now become a priority over re-signing Pavano?

wow, did their catcher just steal 2nd?? goodbye....*breaks hole in wall like little smiley guy* -----> :banghead

Given his record against contending teams, Mota's middle name should be Cicotte.

Sorry guys, this gas can is no closer, I'm not even sure he's an 8th inning guy. We need to either re-sign Benitez or get an established closer. If we go with this guy next year it's gonna bite us right in the @$$.

I got an idea!

If we cant get Benitez back next year, hope Spooney is back and he can close out games.

We can trade Mota for some good bullpen setup or something.

Anyone likey?

I don't hear everyone praising Beinfest's brilliant trade now.

I wonder if he's got a tired arm from all those 2-inning set-up games we had him work.

WTF? I can't say anything about Mota as a closer, but the guy has established himself as the best set-up man in the game over the past few years. Why the hell would you trade him?

And I thought Benitez was priority over Pavano in the first place. We need both of these guys, no doubt, but without Benitez it's Mota, Spooneybarger, and some minor leaguers.

Because he blew a game Josh.

Now that you posted that, this thread will die and 5 threads will be posted proclaiming Beinfest a genius.

Geemoney, I think you're right. He's been one of the most overused relievers the past two years.

Because he blew a game Josh.

A game?

Try half a dozen. All against winning teams we needed to beat.

I think it was just him being overused. I think his arm is pretty dead right now. He has pitched an incredible amount in the second half. He still is one of the best in the league WHEN he is used CORRECTLY. Not 2 innings at a time.

Because he blew a game Josh.

Quit your bitching and stop using Mota as a scapegoat.

Hey, I think Mota's a great pitcher and will be a fine closer one day, but you can't ignore the fact that his ERA has gone up almost a full run in the past month.

But in return, you can't disregaurd the fact that Jack's two-inning stints didn't have an effect on that.

I agree that was stupid, but you can't say that Mota is not at fault.

No blame for the lack of hitting with RISP? :confused

We've grown accustomed to the offensive woes. I'm surprised they scored 4 runs.

Some guys are just meant to be setup men...Mota doesn't have a strikout pitch like most successful closers do. He throws hard, but his fastball is as straight as a dart and his changeup is overused.
