April 7, 200521 yr There is really nothing to worry about, because you guys are forgetting that we still have a proven quality reliever in John Riedling and when he comes off the DL, guaranteed either Perisho or Bump will be sent down to the Topes. In a matter of days, one of our AAAA relievers will be replaced with a proven quality major leaguer and our already deep bullpen will even deeper. I'm guessing out of Perisho and Bump, it will be Bump that get's sent down just because Perisho is a lefty, even though i'd like to keep Bump over Perisho.
April 7, 200521 yr If you're expecting Riedling to come back and shut people down, I wouldn't hold me breath. He's never been anything special. I do think Spooneybarger will provide a big boost when he gets healthy though.

Between Riedling and Spooney, Perisho and Bump will both be gone until September.
April 7, 200521 yr I like Reidling a lot. The way Moehler, Mecir, Jones and Alf looked out there, adding Reidling and hopefully soon Spooneybarger, I'm gonna like this bullpen very much.

April 7, 200521 yr Can't wait until Spooneybarger comes back. A young fresh arm, one that will likely be the second best in the pen, besides Mota. He'll fill the Chad Fox role of stopping mid-inning rallies before they get started.

Mota, Moehler, Mecir, Jones, Alfonseca, Spooney, Riedling > Mota, Moehler, Mecire, Jones, Alfonseca, Bump, Perisho

April 7, 200521 yr iirc, Riedling got used a lot last year, early... and was very good early. with as many good arms as we have down there, its not like hes going to be overused. With all those guys, you won't get nervous with riedling like you do with bump or perisho. and with him as our 6th/7th option down there, I'd be really happy.

Mecir is basically a lefty anyway with his screwball. A significant upgrade to Perisho at that.

Mecir will get the job done against lefties, Perisho can't be trusted.
April 7, 200521 yr Riedling had a very impressive first half last year -- but got pounded post-all star break probably due to being overworked and the death of his father. If I remember correctly -- we were trying to pry him away from the Reds early last season when his ERA was in the low 1's. He's a mixture between Bump and Christ Reitmsa to me -- a hell of a lot better than Nate -- not quite as good as Reitsma. Gets a ton of ground balls and should benefit from our defense. Hopefully he and Spooney return soon so we don't have to suffer through anymore Bump in crucial situations.

April 7, 200521 yr Perisho wasn't good until lefties until later in the year. He was just walking them the first 2 months of the season.

Perisho vs. righties-bad. Jack found that out last year.

April 7, 200521 yr riedling has never truly impressed me. but he is probably overall better than bump i suppose.
April 7, 200521 yr I believe both Spooneybarger AND Riedling can add a boost to our bullpen, the one who will be sent down, MARK MY WORDS, will be Nate Bump, no doubt, Perisho might not have much stuff but the guy can get us out of jams from time to time like he proved last year if used properly, and I think McKeon has got a little confidence in him. Now to squeeze both Snooneybarger AND Reidling, who u guys think will be the odd man out in this situation provided that bump was already sent down at this point? Would Spooneybarger even be 100%, if not can a less effective spooneybarger be worth the demotion of one of our active relievers? Guys...?
