May 30, 200519 yr I am surprised that Perez has a 7 ERA this year. He has great stuff. Hopefully we will be patient with him. And hopefully AJ has a pain-free game.
May 31, 200519 yr The way the Florida Marlins have been hitting lately, it would be easy for them to think their bats are cursed. Florida will try and muster some offense as they continue a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Marlins have dropped five of their last six games. They have scored just 13 runs in the last five. Florida, which is 2-14 this season when it doesn't score at least three runs, has struggled in Pittsburgh. The Marlins have dropped seven straight to the Pirates and are 1-9 in Pittsburgh since 2002. ``It ain't the city, how many games have we lost when we've scored two or less runs?'' Florida manager Jack McKeon said. Florida lost 3-2 in 10 innings in the series opener on Monday. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs, but the Marlins offense struggled again as it was held to seven hits. ``Curse?'' McKeon said. ``The curse is on the bats when we come here.'' Freddy Sanchez, a utility infielder for Pittsburgh, was 0-for-5 before his game-winning hit on Monday. He is playing with nine stitches in his left wrist after being struck by Felipe Lopez's broken bat while fielding Lopez's game-winning infield single in Cincinnati on Friday night. On that play, Sanchez ignored the bat that was streaking directly toward him, risking a potential serious injury, to grab the ball and try to make a game-saving throw to the plate. ``He's been a little spark plug for us,'' manager Lloyd McClendon said. ``He's showed a lot of guts the last few days. I think he's been a real inspiration to everyone on this team.'' Stat of the Day: Luis Castillo vs. Oliver Perez (Career): 3H, 1 2B, 1RBI, 2BB .429BA (7AB) Jobu Prayer Quote I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
