Valyekrin
Inside Dish: ChiSox join chase for Burnett By Ken Rosenthal - SportingNews Think about how imposing the White Sox would be in postseason if Marlins righthander A.J. Burnett joined a rotation that already includes lefthander Mark Buerhle and righties Jon Garland and Freddy Garcia. The thought evidently has crossed the mind of White Sox GM Ken Williams. The White Sox are pursuing Burnett trade to further boost their rotation, which already ranks second in the American League with a 3.72 ERA. The chances of the Marlins trading Burnett, however, will reduce if one of their other top starters, righthander Josh Beckett, is out for a prolonged stretch with a strained left oblique muscle. Beckett will miss at least one start and could end up on the disabled list. The Marlins are seeking three major-league parts for Burnett -- a young starter, a quality reliever and left-handed hitting outfielder. The Orioles' interest in Burnett -- a free agent at the end of the season -- has cooled because of their unwillingness to trade righthander Daniel Cabrera. The White Sox could offer lefty reliever Damaso Marte as the centerpiece of their package. Class AAA righthander Brandon McCarthy also could appeal to the Marlins, but the White Sox likely would be reluctant to trade him. If the White Sox refused to include McCarthy, the Marlins could accept prospects along with Marte and then trade a package of young players for another starting pitcher -- perhaps Giants righthander Jason Schmidt. The Red Sox, a team that has shown past interest in Burnett, also could seek to acquire him if they stick with their plan to use righthander Curt Schilling as a reliever when he returns from ankle surgery http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=insi...v=tsn&type=lgns

MarlinsFan253
We can't afford to give up any starters this season. I know it is tempting, but we really need to hold onto AJ.

Yankees, Boston, Orioles, and the Chi Sox, I think the front office could get some very nice players from one of these teams... especially if it turns into a bidding war. If all these teams are truly competing for him, we could definitely be on top of a deal... I don't really want to see it happen, hence my sig... But I'm sure they will make the right decision in the end.

Admin
I dont advoctae trading Burnett either. If we can drive all the way to the series and win it, theres a great chance we can resign him, and I think right now theres only a good chance we can resign him. He did say they were working on a deal at a fan event before the season. Everyone likes to play for a winner, and if we win the world series, that would make AJ happy. Remember he was distraught that he wasn't part of the 03 World Series run, and everyone knows we are going to need him to get there this year. Teal Shadow
start with McCarthy and add in Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney 845150[/snapback] I don't like Sweeney lacks power, hey Gio Gonzalez is in there system :thumbup beside the way this thing is going a bidding war is coming, which can only help the Marlins
MarlinsFan253
I remember AJ mentioning lately that he doesn't want to leave the Marlins because he believes it will be a TEAL OCTOBER. He wants to be there for it.
Marlins2003
First thing you have to do is consider the source...it's Ken "the Marlins don't deserve to exist" Rosenthal. Now that we've done that I would ask the same question I asked about the Red Sox, "why would you help one of the two or three teams you are most likely to face in the Worlds Series, if that is in fact the goal of this franchise and I believe it is, to play in the fall classic, by sending them one of the premier starting pitchers in baseball in a move that would only weaken our own chances of getting there"? (Sure, I've always wanted to see the Big Hurt in a Marlins uni, but he can only play first and correct me if I'm wrong, we have that situation pretty well covered.) Last week Rosenthal had us as sellers (read, giving up on 2005) to the Orioles, this week the White Sox, next week who knows what name he'll pick out of a hat? All he needs is to ask any GM in baseball (or more usually some underling), "hey would you like having AJ Burnett on your staff?" and he's got another story, and more media coverage for himself. Caveat Emptor. (Anyone know the latin for "let the reader beware"?) lol

Unless you want our playoff rotation to be Beckett, Willis, and Olsen...although I could see Olsen getting a start in a long series.
FutureGM
I think that we should just start talking about the teams that AREN'T interested in Burnett, because it seems like just about everyone wants him.

Marlins2003
Farmer Fran, so we (you and I) don't go round and round in every trade rumor thread, should I assume you have given up on the 2005 season and making/playing in the playoffs? If it is, I'm not telling you're wrong because your opinion has as much value as mine, but whenever you suggest a trade it always seems to be based on players who won't help us this season but might in the next year or two? I'm just curious. I'm not being judgemental.

We have the prospects to go out and pick up a Mark Redman or something of his caliber.
