July 31, 200521 yr I'm watching the BBTN right now and Buster Olney said the Marlins have stated that AJ is off the market and he will absolutely 100% NOT be traded. I'm posting this here in the main forum as opposed to Rumor Central because this isn't a rumor, it's confirmed.

The result is the same, though. I like it--now go out and win, guys! :thumbup
July 31, 200521 yr do we need this? Buster Olney is not Jeffrey Loria or Beinfest. this is another rumor
July 31, 200521 yr Why not shop him up until the deadline and see if some team is willing to overpay for him, even if they most likely are going to keep him, as it appears now?
July 31, 200521 yr It's a rumor. 881174 :lol :lol :lol Accord gets pwned! Anyways, I'm glad to see AJ stay now that he's shown he can extremely valuable down the stretch.
July 31, 200521 yr Attention George. If you're desperate we'll probably take Sheffield, Matsui, Cano, and Pavano.....and 60 million.

July 31, 200521 yr Buster Onley isn't even the dancin' peanut vendor... Actually there's a piece on mlb.com that says the same thing, Beinfest saying there will be no substantial changes on the club.
July 31, 200521 yr Great news. The team has started playing better and the bullpen is looking as solid as I've seen it in the past two years. Now we just need to pick up the offense a bit more and we can work ourselves back into contention.
July 31, 200521 yr Actually there's a piece on mlb.com that says the same thing, Beinfest saying there will be no substantial changes on the club. 881193 Hopefully Beinfest doesn't consider adding a bullpen arm a substantial change.

Now we just need to pick up the offense a bit more and we can work ourselves back into contention. 881217 There can't be any question that the Marlins' play the last few days did much to "save" AJ. I hope he appreciates what they've done. Powerless to be given a voice in FO's decision, the players's (led by Paul LoDuca) pulling their pant legs up was a message, however silent, that spoke volumes. I want to congratulate them. I'm proud of them. Now go win the pennant!
July 31, 200521 yr Do you think if Samson, Beinfest and Loria pull up their socks in the off-season AJ will sign on the dotted line for the sake of the team and wins? Or will it be 'business' that he leaves? If AJ is with us Monday I am his # 1 fan...but I sure wish they'd trade him for the sake of the organization. I am still not sold on this team. We beat the Giants 2 of 3, the Pirates 2 of 3 and may sweep the Nats who have forgotten how to put one foot in front of the other. Show me a split in St. Louis and that will be impressive.
July 31, 200521 yr There was virtually no trade that would make the Marlins better in 2005 by trading AJ Burnett. 2006 is a million years from now. And can't we all breathe a breath of fresh air that Mark Redman won't be joining the team? Hopefully now the franchise will go out and get the few missing pieces and make the small adjustments that can be had without trading of the guys you'll need down the stretch and into the playoffs.
July 31, 200521 yr Mark Redman is more evidence that there really aren't many good starters out there on the market. Several posters here would disagree, but I don't see anyone available that would be an improvement over what the Marlins have now. 881290 I hate to speak in cliches but when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Both AJ and Redman were on centerstage today, one did spectacularly well, one failed miserably. If the FO didn't need more evidence to bring them to the right conclusion, today's performaces certainly sealed the deal. .
July 31, 200521 yr AJ did ask for an answer from the FO today about whether he would be traded, so maybe this is that confrimation. Great news though, now lets get ourselves a reliever!
July 31, 200521 yr Buster Olney...the same guy who said with absolute certainty that AJ Burnett would be moved? If he wasn't confirming what our GM already said, I would ignore this and define it as utter crap. So many of the "insiders" and "experts" know as much as most of us on rumors; they read what is written, just like we do.
July 31, 200521 yr No need to trade when you have all the pieces already here. Rotation is solid Bullpen is solid with the additions of Alfonseca and Vargas aswell as Mota returning to form Offense has the highest team AVG in the league and that should start turning into more runs. Bench is solid with Conine and Easley What do we really need to trade for? And well if we lose Burnett next year...It was worth the shot this year. Olsen and Vargas will get into the rotation.
July 31, 200521 yr I'd feel better about our pitching depth if we could add Redman and Villone. Redman allows Valdez to take over Riedlings spot in mop up duty and Villone takes De Los Santos spot in the bullpen. I'd definitely feel more comfortable with Redman as a 5th starter, Valdez at LR and Villone as a lefty in the bullpen rather then Valdez as 5th starter, Riedling at LR and VDLS as lefty. Beckett Willis (L) Burnett Moehler Redman (L) LR - Valdez LR - Vargas (L) MR - Mecir MR - Villone (L) MR - Alfonseca SU - Mota CL - Jones I like the looks of that.... a lot. But giving up Hermida or Vargas for Villone is just assinine... this is why the trading season sucks. Teams keep asking for way to much. Thanks to KC (Bautista) and TB (Kazmir) for ruining it for everyone else. :mischief
