Let's Talk About Rivalries...

Featured Replies

Cowboys-Eagles used to be huge but then we beat them so often nowadays we just hate them for fun.....

Giants-Eagles and Steelers-Eagles are other rivalries....then again, we hate every team.

And just about every team hates Philly.

I can honestly say I hate Philly more than Dallas right now.

Luv ya!

BUCKEYES/MICHIGAN

Bengals/Everyone else in AFC North

I like the great old skool Bob Probert/Tie Domi fights.

since I was born in Texas and liked the Cowboys prior to the Texans being created, I hate the Giants about 20 times more than I hate the Cowboys, but the Eagle rivalries are great.

Among those not mentioned here yet (I think):

Dodgers-Giants is a great baseball rivalry

Oregon-Oregon State is a great college football rivalry out west

(Carleton-St. Olaf for the Goat trophy is awesome at the D3 level too :mischief )

The Bills and Dolphins still have a good rivalry, but it was fantastic back in the Kelly-Marino days and the 90's in general, before the Gregg Williams/Rob Johnson era in Buffalo. They put on some great offensive displays in the late 80's and early to mid 90's, and other incidents, such as those involving Bryan Cox, really did alot to intensify it.

Rivalries that matter to me the most:

1) Duke v. UNC

2) Texas A&M v. Texas

3) Red Sox v. Yankees

4) Ohio State v. Michigan

5) Enter Opponent v. Yankees

my favorites:

CBB: it starts and ends with UNC vs. Duke

CFB: #1 UMich vs. Ohio State. in no particular order: UM vs. FSU, UM vs. VT, Fla vs. Tenn, Fla vs. FSU. i personally enjoy UNC vs. NC State/Duke every year, but obviously there nothing on a national level

MLB: Yanks vs. Sox

Ohio State-Indiana is pretty good in hoops, although it's died down a bit since Knight got fired.

Ohio State-Cincinnati hoops is going to be ridiculous when we finally start playing again.

And where is the love for Army vs. Navy. Come on!

For years Army/Navy was the biggest rivalry around.

Dolphins/AFC East ... Jets/Phins, Bills/Fins, Fins/Pats is HUGE.

NY team vs Miami team in any sport is huge.

Id love to see a Heat/Magic rivalry begin.

I was surprised nobody mentioned Fins-Bills. As much as I dislike the Jets, the one team I can't stand more than any other is the Bills.

College football:

1) I'd say Florida/Georgia. I've often heard Florida has the loudest fans, and that Georgia has the best tailgaters. Throw that together in a neutral setting in a place like Jacksonville, and you indeed come up with the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

2) Auburn/Georgia. It's the oldest rivalry of the Deep South. There's just a great amount of mystic in that. Stadiums full of girls in sundresses, guys in coat and tie, old alumni getting drunk, and just a great Deep South rivalry.

3) Can I include the Egg Bowl?

4) Texas/Oklahoma...it's like Diet Florida/Georgia.

Florida-UM was the best in the state bar none until the Gators chickened out.

That's the typical unedcuated, high school dropout, gold toothed Hurricane 'fan' comment. It wasn't cost effective for UF to play a home and home once they took on the full SEC schedule. Unlike other schools in this state, UF is a great overall athletic association that looks beyond one or two sports.

But that is for another time another place.

Great, substantiated post right there.

Temple-Rutgers football is intense....HAHAHA

Rangers Islanders is a great NHL rivalry. Even when the teams suck, fans still bitterly hate each other.

I mentioned that one earlier...

But anyone remember the huge brawl they had between the fans in 2003-04? That was with all the Santas. One of the most hilarious things ever.

UM-UF was the best rivalry in the state before both teams joined conferences and loaded up their schedules. One has to remember this was from a time when most major schools were independent unlike what we have today with only Notre Dame being free of note, so all 11 games were handpicked. You have to give respect to Bobby Bowden who refuses to drop either UM or UF from his yearly schedule, but since UM/UF squabbled so much over when they would play they just gave up until now.

And besides, I wouldn't call a game where the other team hasn't won in my lifetime a rivalry :p

:(

Yeah, it's true...

I can honestly say the entire AFC east is a rivalry against each other. As a Dolphins fan, I hate every single one of those teams with a vengence and Im pretty sure they all hate each other.

Michigan-Ohio State has to be the biggest one, and I dont even like the big ten.

Agreed on both counts.
