Newest Lo Duca update

Featured Replies

The Mets are close to acquiring Paul Lo Duca from the Marlins in exchange for a minor leaguer, according to the New York Post.

It can't be Lastings Milledge. This is very bad news for Bengie Molina and Ramon Hernandez, as we can be certain the Marlins aren't going to spend big to replace Lo Duca. Perhaps one of the two will end up accepting arbitration. It's nearly certain to be offered to Molina, less certain with Hernandez. The Orioles and Diamondbacks could still be willing to invest some significant money in a catcher, but it's hard to imagine either going to $8 million per year, which is what Molina hoped to get.

One minor leaguer?

Lo Duca is the equivalent to one minor leaguer not named Lastings Milledge?

This is ridiculous.

If we get some mid level prospect for Lo Duca it will be quite evident that Loria and Samson are gutting the team. The first three guys we traded yielded some top prospects. The Louie trade could have netted us more, but Bowyer is good enough. A mid level prospect level for Lo Duca basically means we gave him up for free. That's gutting the team. How do you feel, Marlins2003? Would this make sense to you? Of course it would. :thumbup

Lousy, just like everyone. The difference between you and I is that I accept what's happening. I'm not in denial. For me, I just want it to be over. The sooner it's over the sooner the team rebuilds.

Like I said, if you guys want to tar and feather me because you need a fallguy, be my guest.

According to the NY Daily News, the player would be either 2B Anderson Hernandez or OF Victor Diaz.

Either player would be OK with me. Both would have a chance to start here.

I would much rather have Anderson Hernandez.

I think he's got better upside and fills a more pressing need.

I'm with you 2003. I don't necessarily like what the team is doing, but I can understand it. You can either give up on the team and wash your hands of the whole thing, or you can accept it and move on. I can live with the trade of any player so long as what they get in return makes sense. Get good value for Lo Duca and Pierre and i'll be OK with it. But, I agree, just get it over with already. The sooner that happens, the faster this can hopefully turn around.

Everyone needs to understand that the Marlins' principal objective is to to have the other team pay for the entire contract. That detracts from the value of the player... You can't expect to get the world for Lo Duca AND have them pay ~6mill for a catcher with not much power and average defensive skills.

With that said... Although the Daily News was only guessing, either Anderson Hernandez or Victor Diaz would be great... Diaz can really hit, and Hernandez is another top-10 Mets' prospect, and an above-average defensive second baseman.

You gotta give them this, they're rebuilding the right way: pitching and defense. If they get Gathright and Hall, to go along with Ramirez and Anderson Hernandez, the defense up the middle will be incredible.

WHy are we still trading in our division?

you're kidding, right? The Mets might be in the same division, but the Marlins aren't in the same league anymore. By the time we're ready to make a push Loduca will be a part time player.

People don't think that way.

But I think the whole thing is that fans don't like to see their favorite players beat up on the Marlins for 19 games a year.

One minor leaguer in the Mets system not named Lastings Miledge is basically giving Lo Duca away, to a team the Marlins play about 20 times next year. :plain

Forget the FO, I think other teams are starting to realize that the Red Sox and Mets didn't have to pay so much in the earlier trades, so they're not offering much in return for the remaining players...

Then the best way to handle this is to wait. LoDuca and Pierre will have great value at the trading deadline next year.

The Marlins FO seems to be suffering some kind of psychotic break. On the one hand, they are building the team of the future. On the other, they are jumping at deals for prospects as evidenced by the Castillo deal. The main problem seems to be while they are building the team of the future, the future is now!

Maybe we should just give him away and let the other team's GM kick Beinfest in the crotch.

So, at the end of the day, for Brad Penny, Hee Seop Choi and Bill Murphy we'll have Jesus Delgado and either Anderson Hernandez or Victor Diaz. :plain

But go back further and for Matt Mantei, Hee Seop Choi and Bill Murphy we'll have Delgado and Hernandez/Diaz.

Doesn't sound that bad now. You can spin it however you'd like.
