Tank and Rupe have been sent down.....one other pitcher was too but I can't remember which one it was...

Interesting. I thought Joe said Tank is going to be in the pen.

no, he said that it's not necessary to have a lefty specialist.

Okay thanks. Maybe I read it wrong.

Joe never commits to anything...always vague about his players except for Cabs...DWillis and Hermi

I think the lefty specialist will be the 6th starter....OLSEN

The other pitcher was Stewart that was sent down

I guess no more pregame chats anymore unless I can find someone else to talk to. :lol

That would be incredibly dumb.

Incredibly.

If Olsen isn't in the rotation, I want him getting starts in the minors.

Isnt Megrew still with the club? He's a southpaw

I don't know much about Megrew's chances of making the team, but I do know he probably won't get cut quickly due to the rule 5 draft.

Isn't Megrew hurt? Yep just found it:

Megrew's status: Left-handed reliever Michael Megrew has been bothered by a impingement in the back of his throwing shoulder, and he doubts he will be able to pitch off the mound by the time Spring Training ends.

As a Rule 5 Draft pickup, time is crucial for Megrew.

With Rule 5 choices, they have to make the team or be offered back to their original club, assuming they clear waivers.

In December, the Marlins selected Megrew out of the Dodgers system. Rebounding from Tommy John surgery, the left-hander has not thrown in the Grapefruit League this spring.

Even though Megrew hasn't thrown much this spring, he still could end up as a Marlin.

The Marlins could place him on the disabled list, allowing him time to recover to get a better look at him.

Rule 5 players must spend 90 days of active service with the team that selected them, or be awarded back to their original team, should they clear waivers.

Even if Megrew is physically unable to pitch this season, he could still be placed on the disabled list for the entire season, but some time in 2007 he still would have to spend 90 days of active service with the Marlins.

That would be incredibly dumb.didn't he go back down to the minors last year in part because he didn't want to work out of the pen?If memory serves correct, he didn't want to do the pen work (it was later found out, anyways) because of the elbow issues he was having.

I might be completely off on this.

We still have Jimmy Anderson in camp, don't we? He's looked decent this spring...

I think he was re-assigned in the first cuts. He has pitched with the club since then, but isn't considered on the spring roster (much like the minor leaguers who get into games late).

I look at the offensive sats for our catchers. Among the top four: Jorgensen, Olivo, Treanor, & Willingham, I come to one conclusion; Olivo needs to quit making any noise that is not coming from his bat contacting a baseball. While I understand that defensive skills have to be considered, I do not see how we can use a roster spot on him. Girardi put Willingham in LF today. I hope that is him looking for options for JW on his non-catching days. I think the smartest way to keep hsi bat in the line up would be to catch him 4 times a week, LF 2 days a week, and an off day. And keep Treanor as the #2 guy. With regards to development, JW does not need to learn anything from Olivo, that is why Tuck is the bench coach! I would say Jorgensen would have an argument to be #1 @ AAA over Olivo.

I am sure Joe has a bit of a soft spot when it comes to catchers, but he needs to stick with meanest, grittiest, hardest worker we have behind the plate and I think Joe has been pretty clear who that is.

The rotation should be

Willis

Johnson

Olsen

Mitre

Vargas

I can't understand for the life of me why we brought Moehler back. He should be in the pen if anywhere at all.

Can't disagree there.

Of all the players competing for a rotation spot (Willis, Johnson, Vargas, Moehler, Nolasco, Olsen, Mitre), Moehler's the only one with an ERA over 3.5...it's 6.35. And he's the only pitcher in Marlins camp to allow double digit runs (12).

That's astoundingly bad.

Think about this: Olsen has been called "unimpressive" yet in more innings than Moehler has thrown (14.1 to 11.1) Olsen has allowed less than half the runs Moehler has (5 to 12).

Conversely, Nolasco has yet to allow a run, earned or unearned, and Mitre has pitched, essentially, the most innings this spring with Johnson and Vargas, and any of those two combined allowed run totals is still less than Moehler's.

And he's "guaranteed" a rotation spot? Lord I hope not.

Eventually it'll be:

Dontrelle

Vargas

Johnson

Olsen

Nolasco/Petit

Mitre to the pen. Moehls should be okay, but if Nolasco is in the bullpen initially and Moehler starts off the year really poorly, I would hope that Girardi would just swap the two.

I still am stumped as to what they're going to do with Olsen. Both Olsen and Nolasco in the bullpen??
