Posted April 24, 200619 yr german hasnt given up a run yet and threw two beautiful innings today with a 96 mile an hour fastball and a sick 90 miles an hour splitter. he is exactly like benitez and i think that he is a better option than herges or borowski. but i think with jow in the 7th matt in the 8th and franklyn inn the 9th would be great.....agree? sorry guys i meant fenklyn german for closer
April 24, 200619 yr I was thinking about that today, he does have the stuff but does he have the mental makeup?
April 24, 200619 yr Author waiiiit franklyn german for closer... god i cant type yeah i think german is perfrect for it he has the dominating stuff that even if its over the plate they cant touch it where as matt anmd joe are control and placement guys
April 24, 200619 yr A lot of players can hit a 96 mph fastball. I think we stick with JoBo because he's proved himself before and we seem to have success with the down and out closers that were kicked out of other places (Jones and Benitez)
April 24, 200619 yr I say give him a shot as the setup man first. ANYTHING would be better than watching Herges go up there and turn it into a nail biter every time..
April 24, 200619 yr I think we should have German setting up Borowski... Herges has not shown me much this season.
April 24, 200619 yr He's the most promising young arm in the pen. Not only does he throw high 90's, but he has good late movement on his fastball. Now if he can only get better control of it. He certainly seems to have the disposition to be closer. I'd have more confidence with German, even given his wildness, than Borowski.
April 24, 200619 yr I'd like to see Resop brought back up and Messenger sent down. that won't exactly solve our problems. Resop will help eventually but not now. I'd prefer to see him get some work in at AAA to save us some service time, which is what they're doing. Can't make pop happy though.
April 24, 200619 yr I am hoping and would like to see the following rotation/bullpen for the start of the 2007 season Rotation Dontrelle Willis Anibal Sanchez Scott Olsen Yusmeiro Petit Renyel Pinto - this one is a shocker but Pinto has better stuff than Johnson/Vargas and just as good if not better stuff than Olsen. Now the big "IF" is control, if he doesn't improve then Johnson/Vargas takes his spot in the rotation Bullpen Carlos Martinez- closer if healthy Josh Johnson- set-up Jason Vargas- lefty set-up Chris Resop Franklyn German Taylor Tankersley Ricky Nolasco -In the case that Renyel Pinto still can't throw strikes by then Jason Vargas/Josh Johnson take his spot in the rotation and to the bullpen goes one of Logan Kensing/Harvey Garcia/Jesus Delgado/Jose Garcia/Sergio Mitre

Actually pop is ok with AAA....Resop needs some work on his consistency....he has had the flu and threw the other night with a 101 temperature....could have been the reason he gave up 4 hits....on 2 broken bats....no excuses being given....

I also suggested that he stay in AAA for a bit is because he's still quite green to pitching pro ball even though his stuff and demeanor are unquestioned. Management certainly projects him as at least a very good setup man for the near future. Chris bounced back yesterday with a save and 2 scoreless innings (1HA).
April 24, 200619 yr german can do the closing job in my opinion, we need a guy up there with heat and some energy. he can give us that
April 24, 200619 yr I'd like to see Resop brought back up and Messenger sent down. To be fair, it's not like Messenger has screwed up yet.
April 24, 200619 yr German looked good in his 2 IP yesterday. Has to make sure he's ot the walks under control, but otherwise I think he'll probably get a shot at closing sometime this season. Borowski's 2-for-2 so far though, & yeah I know he's not a sexy choice... but I think he deserves the chance for a little while.

He just didn't look very sharp during the spring and was shaky in Albuquerque. It's only a matter of time until he gets shelled. Hopefully he'll turn it around, although I'd prefer to see him demonstrate it in AAA first.
