May 13, 200620 yr Now for the 2 big pick ups it is a flip between if we get the stadium or not. If we do get the stadium I could see us getting the better players. Or at least I can hope This is what I would want to see happen. Plus locking up miggy and willis long term. My Free Agent hope for next year CF ? Juan Pierre ? Take him back cheaply since he is having a horrible year with the cubs. He could come back and rekindle it here in center field for us. Which should work out fine for me. CF ? Torri Hunter ? yeah a big name and big price but his defense would be wonderful for us also and he could easily fill it in. He is a solid player and a good fit for the team. I expect us to start spending money again if the stadium deal is done. 1B Mike Jacobs ? If the stadium deal isn?t done fully or the kid starts to hit finally he could be an option too. But, the kid has a lot to work on and show first before that comes to pass. 1B ? Aubrey Huff - If we get the stadium deal done he should be able to be looked over. A solid hitter that has the ability to play a few positions and known already in florida. He could be a good pick up and fitting for the team. Current players staying there: RF ? Jeremy Hermida?s to lose right now still because of the kids potential LF ? Josh Willingham?s to lose because of his ability and bat, good chance RoY 3B ? Miguel Cabrera ? All star player 2B ? Dan Uggla ? Another kid that is hitting over 300 so far, good bat. His defense needs work but he is starting to put it all together. SS ? Hanely Ramirez ? Good solid player, could be Rookie of the year C ? Miguel Olivo ? A lot might want a better catcher but I like how his defense is. He is a solid player with good potential and has been hitting better and better as the year has gone on. Rotation SP ? Dontrelle Willis SP ? Ricky Nolasco SP ? Scott Olsen SP ? Annibal Sanchez SP ? Josh Johnson MR ? Randy Messenger MR ? Chris Resop MR ? Jason Vargas MR ? Travis Bowyer CL - ?? Not really sure whom for close I could see us go for an older player to turn around their career like Foulke or Guardado which we are often good at. I could see us going for atrade perhaps if Lidge becomes available. The above team though could be a top notch team I think specially if they continue to grow. Good young pitching and talent out there.
May 13, 200620 yr LOL, you think we can get Torii Hunter? No way, we'll be lucky if we still have Dontrelle by the trading deadline, let alone getting a premier free agent who will command a multiyear contract of probably $10+ million per year. No chance in hell, and Samson has already begun making excuses for not increasing payroll even if we DO get a stadium, so that's moot. Aubrey Huff? Again... yeah right. We have Mike Jacobs making right around the major league minimum, there is no chance we sign or even attempt to sign Aubrey Huff regardless of how well or poor Jake performs. As far as JP, if I were him I would never return to this franchise under the same ownership. The 2006 offseason will consist of cheap veterans should have retired years ago that will sign 1 year contracts for like 750k, if you expect us to go after a premier free agent, I don't know what to tell you...
May 13, 200620 yr I think even if the stadium deal is announced the Marlins will not go after any big time free agents , lets be honest if several of our rookie starting pitchers pan out and turn out to be legit big league stars we are still 3-4 years away from contending . That said we need everything just about , i think ss and 3rd in the infield we are fine , willingham in the of but the other positions certainly need to be upgraded . I disagree on olivo i think we need to get another catcher , i am not impressed with how olivo calls games although to be fair it is not like he is working with pitchers who know how to pitch . As far as pitching it is clear bullpen is a must i think some of our young guys will pan out but we still need a lot of help out there . Additionally a vet pitcher who is an innings eater woould be nice .
May 13, 200620 yr We need to add a couple of arms in the pen. We need pitching overall. We have a great nucleus around us let's just keep them together for a couple of years.
May 13, 200620 yr It's May. For all you know Kool-Aid could hit .275 with 30 homers and Center Field won't be a need. When you as young as the Marlins are, right now you have no idea what you will need next offseason.
May 13, 200620 yr Too early to start talking about things like this. The rookies have all of 6 weeks of MLB under their belt. Let's see how things look with the rookies after this year, after next year even. The only thing you can definitely say is we need bullpen help.....but so does every other team in MLB.
May 13, 200620 yr They shouldn't spend that much this offseason because 2007 will still be a rebuilding year. They should start sheeling out dough for the 2008-2009 season in anticipation of a new ballpark opening.

If not for his power and speed, good lord :confused

Meanwhile it seems as if JP is going the wrong way. Reggie also has twice as much power as JP ever dreamed of having.
