May 21, 200620 yr Phillies announcers just posted the list for team leaders in games lost by the bullpen MARLINS lead with 14 :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead Based on the record before today's game (11-30), if the team had a decent bullpen that could have nailed half of those 14 games down, they would at least have a respectable 18-23 record... Would Joe be heavily criticized if that was the team's record right now? Granted this season is lost but I would hope Loria gets a decent bullpen in place for the 2nd half to build momentum for next season and to also give this kids hope that all this losing is not forever...

Good post. Some moron will blame Joe G for those close game losses though.
May 21, 200620 yr I think Girardi can be blamed for some of those close losses.... Herges has pitched in way too many big situations
May 21, 200620 yr Author I am starting to see that Joe has very little to work with in that pen...I blame the crappy relievers who cant get 3 outs without giving up a run consistently at the major league level... I also blame Loria for not doing anything to fix this: relievers are not making A-Rod money, get a couple of dependable arms... I posted this in another thread: Has Loria said anything about this team during the season in regards to all the losing or fixing holes?
May 21, 200620 yr Has Loria said anything about this team during the season in regards to all the losing or fixing holes? Not that I know of. He probably doesnt even care about this team.
May 21, 200620 yr Author WHat do we have to do? Wear T-Shirts or bring large signs to the games that say "Fix The Pen Loria!!!", "Do You Care Loria?!!!"

May 21, 200620 yr "Do you even care Loria" "I thought you loved us Loria" "You are killing us Loria" "Bullpen please" etc: etc:

May 21, 200620 yr Author I think Girardi is damned whichever person he brings in Wear those shirts, and get them in front of the cameras for ESPN
May 21, 200620 yr It's amazing how so many people can write off a 23 year old reliever with just 27 IP in the majors. Young pitchers struggle. It's not news. The best of the best struggled out of the pen early in their careers. Logan will turn out to be a pretty good bullpen guy, just give him time.
May 21, 200620 yr I think Girardi is damned whichever person he brings in Wear those shirts, and get them in front of the cameras for ESPN Has anyone on the team not blown a save? (Excluding Pinto).

Im just saying that its not a no-brainer to go to him. He hasnt shown much in the way of results as of yet. My point is mostly that Girardi has no where to turn. The team is well on its way to winning 50 games this year.

(Excluding Pinto). Cant answer that. Too many losses in my mind have made the season a big blur... I am pretty much referring to the trifecta of Herges, Borowski, and Messenger... Logan has never proven himself consistent over the last few years at the major league level, I doubt he will cut it
May 21, 200620 yr I think Girardi is damned whichever person he brings in Wear those shirts, and get them in front of the cameras for ESPN Has anyone on the team not blown a save? (Excluding Pinto). According to the stats on floridamarlins.com, Johnson has blown one, Herges four, Borowski six, Messenger and German one, and Kensing two.
May 21, 200620 yr Loria can't watch the games, his big @$$ '03 championship ring is in the way so he can't comment :plain
May 21, 200620 yr While the bullpen may have been at the wheel when the ship went down. It's been the starting pitchers and the late-inning offense that haven't been helping. You can't win games when you only play at 50% effort for half the game.

In any major league game, an offense should not have to be expected to put up more than 5 runs to win a game.

May 21, 200620 yr The bullpen is taking the brunt of the blame right now. But the pitching problem begins with the starters. They have been inconsistent and they will continue to be inconsistent. I expect the bullpen will improve, it would be hard for them to get much worse. As for our lack of offensive effort in the second half of games, I think it's more a case of veterans vs. rookies. And the veterans learn the tendencies of the batters after 2 times through the order. And the rookies don't know enough to adjust. It's not lack of effort, it's lack of MLB experience.
