June 12, 200620 yr My friend was walking back from a UM football game one day, I guess towards the Metrorail, and stumbled into Overtown. Thankfully he and his friends ran into this one guy who helped them get through the area, otherwise there might have been problems.

June 12, 200620 yr Riviera Beach? I dont know about that. How does someone walk from the OB into historic Overtown, thats a good 20+ blocks towards downtown over bridges and through Little Havana? You dont just stumble there from the OB. Best place to live in Florida? I would have to say Jupiter, Hobe Sound, Stuart, Palm City. Worst Place to live in Florida? Belle Glade, Okeechobee.

You know..Sarasota is a nice little town,i really like it.But last time i was in Sarasota there was red tide and the beach was horrendous,there was dead fishes all over the shore and the water smelled really bad,but the town was hella nice..they had a little ice cream factory and chocolate factory as well if i remember correctly,i feel like going again.but let me ask you,is the water over there always dark colored?or was that only because of the red tide?

June 12, 200620 yr Good call on Belle Glade, FTF. I was going to say that as soon as I saw the title. Best - too hard to say. Clearwater is awesome. So is Destin/Ft Walton Beach. I would say either of those two.
June 12, 200620 yr Worst place is Overtown in Miami. Nothing really compares in my experience. All I know is that when I am in there the one or two times a year I pass through, I want to get out ASAP.

I lived in sarasota for 16 years, I never noticed the water being dark, what you were seeing must have been seaweed close in shore, there is alot of that on the beaches there,and dead fish too, and yes it does stink. Im sorry to hear that you had to put up with that terible red tide, I know what its like. And all the dead fish is a problem too, I remember walking on siesta key one night and came across a terible alien looking thing, I belive it was just the head of a shark that had to be floting for a few days before making it to shore. I sure do like sarasota, most of my memories were in sarasota, and I visit there once every 3 to 4 months, Right now their getting tons of rain.

It's just during Red Tide, other than that the water is basically the same as here on the east coast, except for the fact that it's calmer over there. I have a horrible reaction to Red Tide (watery eyes, coughing etc.) And the smell after the fish have been there for a couple of days is absolutely unbearable. I have a beach condo in Sarasota county and whenever Red Tide comes, the smell of the thousands of rotting fish will really test your sanity :lol You can't escape from it, whether you're indoors or in a car, the smell penetrates everything. Nasty Stuff.
June 12, 200620 yr Author The gulf of mexico is different then the atlantic in many ways, not so deep, different color, and like you said, alot calmer. Sarasota is a great place to open your eyes and lay back.
June 12, 200620 yr i like the water in Miami Beach alot better,is the water in sarasota the gulf coast,just like in Marco Island?lol when i used to go out to restaurants to eat in Sarasota i would smell that nasty dead fish smell,it didn't give me much of an appettite lol..and for the time i stayed there it rained alot as well,but besides that the place is really chill and sweet to be in..some of the girls were banging too which was a plus,i was actually talking to my parents about going to Sarasota again about a week ago,but i leave to Laguna Beach,California this weekend so Sarasota will have to wait for now,lol..but i can't wait to go there,or to Marco Island again.crap..the head of a shark??that's some frightening stuff,do you know what type of shark it was?i'm guessing it was either a nurse shark or a tiger shark.

Sarasota is known for its beaches, its was like number 2 on florida's nicest beaches in the travel channel....the water was like that because of the hurricanes and red tide and all that. The beaches there are crystal clear trust me.
