June 28, 200619 yr Girardi took a beating on this board early in the season. What are your thoughts on his performance now? I think Girardi has shown poise, patience and a knack for knowing when to get tough with his players. Did the Marlins make the right choice for a new manager?
June 28, 200619 yr the only member of the Girardi hate club is SDL RedSox Fan. I am pretty sure everyone has been into Joe's aggresive styl of managing.
June 28, 200619 yr Author Only one? I have to disagree. There were at least 20 "Fire Girardi" posts a day early on.
June 28, 200619 yr Ill be the first to admit that I was a Girardi hater. After 11-31 I was very much a hater. But what can I say the guy is proving me WRONG and I am happy with that. I dont mind being the "goat" in this case. I love what he's been doing and it seems to work.
June 28, 200619 yr It was stupid to be a girardi hater no matter how we started. I'd almost like to see who all the others were, but not rly.
June 28, 200619 yr Here is my preview of SDLRedSoxFan's response will probably look like: Yeah that Joey Pitbull. He is doing fine now, but mark my words, his no facial hear policy will come back to bite him in the a**. I tell you what, if he told me to cut off my 'stache I'd give a karate chop straight to the temple! --- But seriously, I was worried early on about Girardi's cool demeanor in some situations that I thought demanded more action earlier this season. I also worried he might be too emotional after seeing post game interviews after tough losses. But I never called for him to be fired. He seems to be getting things done quietly and it is paying dividends now.
June 28, 200619 yr My guess is that Girardi has very little to do either with how things started or with how things are going right now. I doubt he's doing anything differently. I think it's more a question of some of our guys settling in and playing better. And the bullpen has done a total 180 degree turn.
June 28, 200619 yr John Krunk said yeasterday on baseball tonite he could be the NL manager of the year
June 28, 200619 yr The official Fire Girardi Thread :thumbup http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...opic=60981&st=0
June 28, 200619 yr guy is just amazing at some things, hes patient, relaxed can have fun and smiles, and hes a great example to the team. this team is just fun to watch all together.
June 28, 200619 yr I will not accept that our payroll is 100% of the reason of our failure. Girardi is part of the problem. With a true manager, I believe we could be .500. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol that gem from DELgot2rings.
June 28, 200619 yr I was a Girardi hater. I complained about him constantly using Herges in late innings when it was tight instead of our younger pitchers. I complained about his decision to keep Abercrombie as our starting centerfielder. I criticized Girardi for allowing Reed and Aguila to take at-bats away from others. I even criticized Girardi for refusing to pull a pitcher until he had completey blown the game (given up 5 runs in an inning, etc.). We'll, he stopped doing those things...and "poof"...we're winning. Maybe I should be manager?? :whistle In all seriousness, our team is vastly improved talent-wise since our opening day roster. The addition of Tank as a lefty in our pitching staff has really allowed Girardi to have some flexibility in his bullpen management. We have added Borchard and Ross, who have played quite well when given the chance (with some clutch hits). Kensing and Messenger have really improved over last season. If anyone deserves the credit, it is Beinfest - not Girardi. Girardi is not winning these games for us, the talent is. However, I will be the first to admit that he is no longer losing these games for us, and has greatly improved his bullpen management (which was my greatest concern). Where I once thought he was the completely wrong manager for the job, I now believe that he is a much better "developmental" manager than I gave him credit. He has nursed Jacobs out of his slump, seems to be doing the same for Hanley, and has really pushed our young pitching staff to get better after each start. I think our team is on the right course, and if that is because of Girardi - then I tip my cap. I will not accept that our payroll is 100% of the reason of our failure. Girardi is part of the problem. With a true manager, I believe we could be .500. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol that gem from DELgot2rings. At least I believed that our talent was worthy of playing .500 ball.
June 28, 200619 yr Everyone is peachy now that we're winning, but if this team hits a wall watch how fast they turn on him.

June 28, 200619 yr I have said it all along since the begining of the year! Check out all the Joe hate threads and u see my posting to support him
June 28, 200619 yr it obviously wasn't at the time. I did completely agree about the useage of Matt Herges in high leverage situations though ugh! I spose they had to run him out there enough just to be sure he was garbage. I was a Girardi hater. I complained about him constantly using Herges in late innings when it was tight instead of our younger pitchers. I complained about his decision to keep Abercrombie as our starting centerfielder. June 28, 200619 yr it obviously wasn't at the time. Seriously, read my post. It say "with a true manager, we could be .500." Doesn't that post mean that I believed we had the talent to be .500??
June 28, 200619 yr Im not sure. It sounds more like this "true manager" person would have quite an affect on the club's record. Im rly not sure where you're going with this.
June 28, 200619 yr I never wanted him fired, but I thought he did a very poor evaluation of talent and bullpen spots and whatnot in the early goings that being said, he has done a fantastic job turning this ship around
June 28, 200619 yr I was a Girardi hater in April but when I said hey Girardi is improving and is not making the same stupid mistake in May, everyone gave me a long stair. I think it had to do with our team still heading toward the all time low.
June 28, 200619 yr It was stupid to be a girardi hater no matter how we started. I'd almost like to see who all the others were, but not rly. Quoted for truth.
June 28, 200619 yr Yeah, I was critical of some of his bullpen moves early, but we were also aware that he had precious little to work with. But the "OMG Fire Girardi" stuff that early was silly and was just frustration from losing. Having a bullpen piece available like Tankersley all of the sudden can make someone look like a genius pretty quickly. He is neither fully to blame for the poor start, nor should he get all the credit for the turnaround. If he winds up getting some manager of the year consideration for the way his players have come together, fantastic... but I'd give more praise to the other coaches personally. Pressley, Kranitz, Hill, etc. Although Joe has seemed to have a bit of the magic touch lately with lineups & pinch hitters...
