July 1, 200620 yr We have HEB down these parts. Heh, I know about HEB. I lived in San Antonio for 7 months.
July 2, 200620 yr sandwiches and lunch meats rock and seafood. their stock is very good too, but gotta work for them to purchase it.
July 2, 200620 yr We have a lot of Food Lions here. Bradcore - do you have any Market Basket stores up there?
July 2, 200620 yr What the hell is a Publix? The greatest supermarket ever. Whole Foods > Publix We have a lot of Food Lions here. Bradcore - do you have any Market Basket stores up there? Food Lion is the most disgusting supermarket, when I lived in North Carolina those places were the dirtiest shitholes ever.
July 2, 200620 yr There are 3 or 4 Food Lions within a few miles of me. They are all very clean and if you get an MVP card, there are always plenty of great deals on food. I really like Food Lion.
July 2, 200620 yr What the hell is a Publix? The greatest supermarket ever. Where shopping is a pleasure. Find your local publixes here. I have 34 within 10 miles.
July 2, 200620 yr if im getting a lot of groceries or going to the deli, i go to the publix near Sunset Place but when its just a quick trip to get something, i go to Winn-Dixie
July 2, 200620 yr Damn, Winn Dixie, I used to love that place til they closed. Chek Cream Soda is the greatest soda ever made. I wonder if I could order it online.
July 2, 200620 yr I usually just shop at the Winn-Dixie that's two blocks away from me, down here in the ghetto. However, when I'm looking to buy food items that your typical food-stamp recipient has no interest in, I drive over to one of the Publixes (Publices?) in the Brickell area. As an added perk, many of the girls shopping at those publixes are smoking.
July 2, 200620 yr What the hell is a Publix? Supermarket chain. It has an overwhelming presence here in Florida and parts of the South. Like A&P up in New York. What the hell is an A&P?! :lol Do you know what I have for supermarket chaines? Wal-Mart every 40 something miles. And most of those aren't even Super Wal-Marts. Well, I suppose I have Hannaford and Shaws. But those are New England but even still, they're all at least 25 miles between. I didnt know what they where either :whistle
July 3, 200620 yr "El Puble" kicks ass. Ive been to grocery stores in many states and nothing comes close to a Publix.
July 3, 200620 yr One of the things that's always amazed me about supermarkets is just how big a role race and class plays in which supermarket people go to. Down here, Winn-Dixie is definitely the lower class supermarket, while Publix is more middle/upper class. Places like Whole Foods are definitely geared towards the upper-middle class. There's a Winn-Dixie that's practically across the street from my parents house, but they NEVER go there. Publix is an extra 5 minutes or so to drive, and that's where they go...even if it's for a quick stop to get something that could be found at both places. They just don't like going in the Winn-Dixie. Back in Durham, Food Lion was undoubtedly for poor people and black people. I went there once, and I stuck out like a sore thumb. There was even a "black" Kroger and a "white" Kroger. That probably had more to do just with where they were located, but I definitely knew some people who would avoid the "black" Kroger even if it meant going a few extra miles.
July 3, 200620 yr Only places a Winn Dixie beats out a Publix is in Key Largo, where the Winn Dixie is just easier to access and much bigger...and on Pine Island where there is no Publix. I like Winn Dixie's Chek Soda too....it is the best.
July 3, 200620 yr I dont trust Win dixie, I worked there before as a kid in high school (one of my early jobs) doing stock and the place was infested with rats. They would change the date on food items, they would sell rancid meat, etc. etc. etc. I never would eat there again.
July 3, 200620 yr You know what's probably Miami-exclusive? Sedano's. You want cheap? Star Supermarket. And isn't there a Winn-Dixie in Key Biscayne? Not really poor there...Or has that changed to a Publix?
July 3, 200620 yr There was a Winn-Dixie in Lake Mary, but it went out of business because people would rather go to Publix or Albertson's.
July 3, 200620 yr but when its just a quick trip to get something, i go to Winn-Dixie I work(ed-2 more weeks) there and it seems like a lot of people do the same. Damn, Winn Dixie, I used to love that place til they closed. Chek Cream Soda is the greatest soda ever made. I wonder if I could order it online. short answer is no. I usually just shop at the Winn-Dixie that's two blocks away from me, down here in the ghetto. thanks for the support. Down here, Winn-Dixie is definitely the lower class supermarket I'll agree and disagree. It is lower class, even here in "the Coop"...we probably have better employees than Publix, the store is better than Publix (wider aisles, cleaner except our floor which has scuffmarks because our new cleaning crew sucks), but the people who come into the store tend to be a lower class for Cooper City type. And this is not to seem over-pompus. There was a Winn-Dixie in Lake Mary, but it went out of business because people would rather go to Publix or Albertson's. Thats too bad becuase I have been in that store and I liked it. The reasons I'm leaving Winn Dixie has nothing to do with anything that effects the customers directly. We don't change dates, we have no rats, we do a great job. However, up on the front end there are new rules, they are cutting hours, and its not as fun as it used to be. The company is trying to improve and I'm glad to be a part of that, but they are trying in the wrong ways.
July 4, 200620 yr Author i deffinately wouldn't agree Winn Dixies are cleaner. or nicer. or better in any respect. i've never had any problem with a Publix. ever.
July 4, 200620 yr they got this really nice new publix next to school. first time me and my friend went there we walking around in awe because it was so f***ing nice and he talking about "so this is where white people shop". :lol :lol
July 4, 200620 yr Winn-Dixie is nasty and it's associated with poor people here. Publix is always baller status. Albertson's is a mixed bag, with some being baller status and others being broke status. Winn Dixie's produce and meats just never looked as appealing as other places. The only cool thing about them is they have liquor stores and they sell really weird random stuff sometimes.
