July 26, 200620 yr I agree with Girardi move there. Sanchez gave up a run in the 7th and it should make Girardi a little nervous that the Braves can do it again in a somewhat tired pitcher. Beside the 2 batters that Tankersley face was lefty that hit hard against Sanchez earlier. It was a easier assignment on a fresh Tankersley then a tired Sanchez in a 1 run game. You can't push it in a 1 run game.
July 26, 200620 yr Sanchez gave up a run in the 7th He gave up the run in the 6th and had a 1-2-3 7th. It worked but if it didn't work he'd be second guessed. I didn't agree with the move at the time it was made but I can't disagree with the results.
July 26, 200620 yr At first I didn't agree. With his PC at 70 I thought for sure Joe would let Sanchez pitch the 8th but it worked out. He made the right move.
July 26, 200620 yr I thought Tommy explained it clearly and correctly. Girardi had observed that the guys coming to the plate in the eighth had hit or had good at bats against Sanchez and so he went to Tankersley who he believe created a matchup in the Marlins favor. That's why we're sitting in the stands and he's in the dugout.
July 26, 200620 yr Girardi definitely overmanaged, but he was only being conservative. I don't like the move, but I'll take it.
July 26, 200620 yr Well in all fairness, the guys coming up absolutely tore the ball off of Sanchez in the game.
July 26, 200620 yr I've learned to never question Joe Girardi.. from pitching moves to having Cody Ross hit cleanup, it's all worked for him.. He is quickly becoming my favorite manager ever.....
July 26, 200620 yr It's not a final game in this season. So, We'll work again at next game... That's it... Just one game of 160+ games, I think...
July 26, 200620 yr I've learned to never question Joe Girardi.. from pitching moves to having Cody Ross hit cleanup, it's all worked for him.. He is quickly becoming my favorite manager ever..... Are you kidding? We've had 2 managers win the Series....don't put him there yet. Once Girardi beats the Giants in the playoffs and wins the series....then he will be my favorite! :thumbup
July 26, 200620 yr Author I thought Tommy explained it clearly and correctly. That's why we're sitting in the stands and he's in the dugout. That what convince me about Girardi move. If it was me managing, without looking at the scouting report or who hitting for the Braves, I'll retardly leave Sanchez in and cross my figure. PS: "retardly" is a made up word but with some common sense, you can figure out what it mean. I've learned to never question Joe Girardi.. from pitching moves to having Cody Ross hit cleanup, it's all worked for him.. He is quickly becoming my favorite manager ever..... Are you kidding? July 26, 200620 yr All those people that are saying he made the right move are only saying that because it worked out if it wouldn't have worked out i know everone would be complaining about the move the truth is it was a stupid move he only had 73 pitches with 1 ER through 7 innings and no BB and he was showing no signs of fatigue! It was a bad move and Girardi got lucky.
July 26, 200620 yr Author Seem like I was the only two that agreed on Girardi move before Tank strike out the side. Does agreeing after Tommy explain why Girardi made the move still count?

July 26, 200620 yr Well given the fact that there were 2 lefties coming up and those two hitters coming up were 3-4 in the game he just used logic since Tank has been unhittable this season.
July 26, 200620 yr i didn't agree with it at first but now that i thought about it was a good move (partly because it worked)..T-Hutt mentioned that the two lefties mr. tank come into face had hit the ball hard off of anibal in their last AB's..good eye by girardi to notice that (assuming he did) and bring in a lefty to face them. tank did a good job.
July 26, 200620 yr I've learned to never question Joe Girardi.. from pitching moves to having Cody Ross hit cleanup, it's all worked for him.. He is quickly becoming my favorite manager ever..... Just wanted to point out that you know Girardi has come a long way since the beginning of this season when someone can post a message like this wihout fear of getting blasted by 10 different people within 10 minutes. Not only that, post a message like this and have people agree with him. I still question some moves myself, but as opposed to questioning moves every game I might question a move every 3-4 games or so. The move taking out Anibal I am fine with completely. I am pretty sure Girardi is instituting some kind of 7 inning limit rule with the rookie starting pitchers unless they have a shutout going, which I am in agreement with (in order to not wear them down).
July 26, 200620 yr Sure, the move worked, but it's not like it didn't cost us anything; facing a stretch of eight games in seven days, we opted to fire off our two best bullets before round one was even complete. Knowing the eventual outcome, I wouldn't take the move back now, but sure--at the time I disagreed with the decision to sit a pitcher who was on cruise control and had only tossed 73 pitches.
July 26, 200620 yr It is a 1 run game. The guys due up had been having success. The bullpen is rested. What is wrong with that move?
July 26, 200620 yr We have ourselves a freakin winner as a manager.. let him do his thing. It obviously worked. How on earth can you second guess this man?
