August 2, 200619 yr Helms should NOT have been bunting in that situation. Girardi really lucked out. I disagree with you there... I though it was geinus When you are down to three outs you don't give outs away. Helms is pretty clutch too. You need two hits to score Olivo from first...only one with him on 2b. Baseball says bunt. I guess you are a money ball guy huh?

RIGHT: .303 / 1.021 I would prefer the bunt to get the man in scoring position.

August 2, 200619 yr I wonder do you guys consider tonight's win the best of the season? I for one think it is. That Orioles win was pretty amazing as well but this one is right up there! If this doesn't get #1 Top Play on SC, which it probably won't, it's blasphemy. Then it's blasphemy. We know it probably won't. But WHAT A GAME!!!!!!!!!!
August 2, 200619 yr Author When you are down to three outs you don't give outs away. Helms is pretty clutch too. I'm with you, Peng. But, it's a moot point now. Let's CELEBRATE!! :cheers
August 2, 200619 yr That was a great win... Hopefully the Fish can gain some more momentum from it and keep winning
August 2, 200619 yr Author Herges with his first win. :wee In the words of the late Mel Allen: "How 'bout that?"

VS. LEFT: .228 / .644 VS. RIGHT: .303 / 1.021 Rich and Tommy have been talking about it all year. I knew immediatley when Helms was pinch hitting he was sacrificing with a lefty on the mound,
August 2, 200619 yr I am mad because I was SOOOO close to actually heading out to the ballpark tonight ...Josh, you better hit a walkoff Friday!
August 2, 200619 yr Hey let's give a nod to Olsen too, who faced an awfully tough lineup & K'd 10 Mets. Gave up 4 runs but at least he didn't let it get out of hand. Also Matt Herges had a nice inning & gets his first win. :thumbup All smiles in Marlin-land tonight.
August 2, 200619 yr I hadn't realized that. Why does he start at 1B instead of Jacobs then when a lefty is pitching? Anyway, I still say don't bunt. It's strange because historically he mashes lefties. Just isn't so far this season.
August 2, 200619 yr The amazing thing is that they only needed three pitches to beat Billy Wagner :mischief

August 2, 200619 yr Helms isnt very good against lefties this year though, iirc I hadn't realized that. Why does he start at 1B instead of Jacobs then when a lefty is pitching? Because the split itself is the flukey product of a small sample size. His splits from any of the previous three seasons tell an entirely different story.
August 2, 200619 yr It was awesome because I was leaving dinner and had just turned on the radio and the first thing I heard was "*CRACK* Jose Reyes!!....Solo SHOT!!!" Upset, I turned it off. As soon as I got home, I ran in and turned on the T.V. The first thing I saw was "*CRACK* Josh Willingham!!! Walk-Off homerun!!!!!!" That was probably the best 17 seconds of baseball I've ever seen.
