What Dontrelle told the Home Plate Ump Last Night

Featured Replies

Listening to Cafecito with Los Marlins on spanish radio. Martinez from the FO said that these were the comments from Dontrelle and Miguel to the Ump at the end of the 7th last night

This team is working too hard for you to take it away from us like this, those were two strikes

Willis

Dontrelle was in the strike zone twice, lets be fair

Miguel

Well said. I was pretty upset.

Yep yep, I got my sources:

Willis insisted he wasn't trying to made Reilly look bad.

"I just said, 'Hey, we're working too hard.' That's all I said," Willis noted. "You can ask him. I didn't swear at him. I just said, 'We're working too hard.' By the time I looked up, Olivo was in my face and I'm not getting around Olivo. I wasn't disrespecting him. The only thing is I shouldn't have gone up to him, because I feel like that's not my place.

"But that shouldn't happen. If I see him, I'm going to apologize."

There were some AWFUL calls in the last few innings, including the amazing shrinking strike zone, and saying that Cody Ross went on a pitch, where he barely got the bat off of his shoulder. I was at the game on the first-base side, so I got a good view of it.

That explains how he managed to not get tossed even though he was arguing balls and strikes. He kept it civil.

Just another great quality Dontrelle possesses...........Diplomacy.

Gotta love em.

He also has a name too, which helps him not get tossed. He has respect around the league because of his last year, RoY, and national attention.

If that was any other of our pitchers the rookies would of been tossed.

I LOVED How Tommy Hutton completely flipped... thawas great

Haha, that was hysterical!

I was at the game so I didnt hear it but you have to love Rich and Tommy. They are so into the game. Some announcers are sooooo BORING and show no emotion.

I love Tommy and Rich. They really get into the game just like we do. I remember in June against the Blue Jays, Treanor hit what looked like a FC. But the 1st base ump called Treanor out at first. Treanor easily beat the throw by 2 steps. Tommy flipped. He blatantly said something like "That's the worse call I've seen in baseball in years. It wasn't even close." I laughed so hard.

I love Tommy and Rich. The way they get emotional after a big win or bad call is great.

We will never forget that play, hopefully that umpire won't be hire to call any playoff games. Especially the once where the Marlins are involve.

Bruce Dreckman made that horrible call, and that's not something I'll forget for awhile.

It was great last night when I watched on MLB.tv to see Tommy's reaction. Rich said Dontrelle was trying to keep his composure, and Tommy said that he was trying to keep his as well. :lol

Is there a more respectful person in baseball than DTrain? I'm so impressed with the way he handles himself.

Yep, D-Train is as special as they come. Most people would have shown up the Ump after some pretty lousy calls. There is NO ONE that could have been a better example to this young pitching staff than Dontrelle has been.

Dontrelle is one of the Classiest guys in the MLB. He got straight to the point, didn't swear, and he was completely respectful. :notworthy :thumbup

He also gets a call from his mom if he snaps completely. That's a call none of us like to get. LOL

DTrain in the club house is invaluable right now. His constant displays of how the game should be played and how to maintain that level of professionalism is something that will stay with the kids for their entire careers.

I was also impressed with the way Miggy carried himself in that series. He was actually acting like the leader he is supposed to be. Something we don't see enough of from him on the field, IMO. I can even overlook that over zealous error he made throwing to 1B for the DP.

Reminds me of my new favorite commercial. "Reminder to Major League players: This is what running out a ground ball looks like." LOL Love that ad.
