August 6, 200619 yr idk if there is a jhermida thread or w/e but did anyone notice that in his last at bat he seemed to have finally switched bats. he went to the two toned black bat.. this guys is really struggling and he has really fallen short of expectations. anyone wondering if hes a bust or not?

I do wonder sometimes if he is a bust or not but I think it's too early to know for sure. He is having a bad season, both defensively and offensively but like I said only time will tell.
August 6, 200619 yr A bust? Are you kidding me? Hermida hasn't shown the power he did in the minors because he's in the process of learning how to be more hitter than umpire. Jason Stokes, is a bust. Todd van Poppel, is a bust. Hermida, is not and its unfair to make that judgement just because he's in a slump right now.
August 6, 200619 yr he's 22 years old and has a better eye at the plate than most major league veterans. yeah, he's a bust.
August 6, 200619 yr He's having a disappointing season at the plate and also with the glove but I wouldn't call him a bust.. he's only 22. I think he'll be a good player.
August 6, 200619 yr While the "bust" criticism may not be completely fair, it is more than fair to label him a disappointment. He was arguably one of the top 5 prospects in all of baseball coming into this season, and I'm not sure if he is one of the top 5 rookies on our own team. I have faith he'll get much better, and his BA is not too shabby, but I expected more.
August 7, 200619 yr He has a great eye and patience but he fouls off way too many good pitches. It's like he is a little late in his swing, I think it is something mechanically he can fix. He also may still be bothered slightly because many times those types of injuries don't fully heal until the offseason. I believe he will come around.

I know he missed 1 month but still 20 rbi's are not going to cut it. Hopefully next year things will click.
August 7, 200619 yr A bust? Hardly. Not everone can came up from the minors and have the kind of success that guys like Cabrera and others have. You want an example? Derrek Lee struggled for years and didn't really have his first successful offensive year until 2003. Now I hope you do remember all of those years he struggled as most of us do, because now Derrek Lee is one of the most productive first baseman in all of baseball (when healthy of course). Hermida just needs time and he needs to learn patience to become the kind of hitter that all of us know he can be. But is he a failure? LOL far from it.
August 7, 200619 yr Hermida is faaaaaarrrrrrr from a BUST.. Kid has been hurt and hasn't played every day this season... He has a great swing.. Hes in a learning process.. I wouldnt be surprised if he starts to heat up towards the end of the season and have a breakout season next season showing us the real Hermida
August 7, 200619 yr laughable. hermida is a pretty good bet to become an elite offensive player as soon as next season.
August 7, 200619 yr J Hermida NAME FLA RF 73 G 243 AB 29 R 66 H 16 2B 1 3B 5 HR 22 RBI 99 TB 27 BB 56 SO 4 SB 1 CS .352 OBP .407 SLG .272 AVG I'll give him a C-
August 7, 200619 yr he's had a rough rookie year but he seems to have the tools to be a great player i think labeling him a bust is unfair to him.

He's a rookie. Get over yourself. He's not going to come to the Majors and automatically be elite. He has awesome potential. Thats the key word for the Marlins this year: POTENTIAL.

And he's not the only one who makes some ridiculous posts on the board. :whistle
August 7, 200619 yr It's too early to call Hermidia a bust, or Willy a bust, or Uggla the next coming of Vidro, or any of the pitchers potential Cy Young candidates. Hermedia has underperformed expectations, but let's give all the players at least another year.
August 7, 200619 yr The lack of power shouldn't be al that surprising. That took some time to develop in the minors and it will in the majors.
August 7, 200619 yr hermida so far this year... has sucked. But, I attribute that to this being his rookie season and he'll most likely get better as he gains experience. However, so far his rookie season bears resemblence (in the aspect of production and power) to that of ..... REGGIE ABERCROMBIE. AB-- R 2B 3B HR RBI 243 29 16 1 5 22 Hermida 230 32 11 2 5 21 Reggie For someone who is supposed to be our everyday right fielder for the next few years, the fact that REGGIE ABERCROMBIE is producing anywhere near the level Hermida is scares me. He better start driving in some FRIEKEN RUNS!
August 7, 200619 yr I wouldnt call him a bust, he just needs some time. When he first came off the DL he sucked but he's improved allot since then. He does make some plays in the field that I wanna punch him in the face for but other than that he isnt doing to bad. His power should come soon and maybe he'll be able to hit in front of Miguel.
August 7, 200619 yr Jeremy is not a bust. He is only 22 years old and has his whole career in front of him. Plus, he has many skills that other veterans do not posses. He will rebound from his recent woes and become what everybody thought he would be, a great ball player.
August 7, 200619 yr i get the feeling many people have the perception that hermida would hit 30-40 HRs per season, when he projects more as a 20-30 guy just getting off to a slow start, which happens to many top prospects.. case in point see justin morneau

August 7, 200619 yr Hermida has had injuries that will slow anyone down but he has been very productive for us...GET OFF HIS BACK!
