Twins' rookie phenom Liriano hurt

Featured Replies

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota's rookie All-Star, is out indefinitely with what appears to be a left elbow injury.

After missing his previous start because of an injury described as forearm inflammation, Liriano (12-3) left this start after giving up four runs on a career-high 10 hits in four innings.

In a quiet postgame clubhouse, Liriano, 22, seemed on the verge of tears, and his voice crackled as he described the pain, pointing to the inside of the elbow this time, beneath the muscle and possibly in the joint.

Wow this would be a big setback not only for this kid but for the Twins if he is out any significant amount of time

Wow, not good. I love the kid.

If the Red Sox can't win the division or the wild card and make the playoffs, I'd want the Twins to.

It'd be a shame if he and Verlander can't continue at their pace down the stretch.

He's been my favorite prospect since I started paying attention to the minors...and I've been supporting him all year.

I always compare pitchers to him--he's definitely the measuring stick.

Tough break for Twins. Short of Gorza being Liriano Jr, their season is over

I don't know about that. Their bats are unbelievable. Capable of giving great run support. They'll give the wildcard a run for it's money.

Minnesota people fearing the worst.. anytime elbow and injury are in the same sentence for a pitcher, can't be good.

..and they're toast if he's gone. The rest of their pitching outside of Santana is garbage. I know Radke has been pitching like the glory days lately but I wouldn't want him as my #2.

Sad to see such a phenom get injured. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

However, this does open the door for someone else to sneak in and nab AL Cy Young.

Verlander, Papelbon, Santana, Halladay, Wang, Mussina all have an opportunity.

this is lirano's damn fault.

you have to let people know when you are in pain. not doing that is just simply stupid. Factor in that he wasnt taking his anti inflammatory meds and well, ya its his fault.

hopefully he has learned his lesson and can rebound without surgery.

The Twins at this point would be borderline psychotic to bring him back this year.
