Jason Wood

Jason Wood is a 2 time AAA MVP so obviously is his pretty good and can play major league baseball.

I don't think there's anyway the front office can ignore Wood's performance. He's played his way on to this team as of now, and at this point I think he could be our 2007 Wes Helms.

Wood is actually a 3 time AAA MVP......and I made that quote because someone said he is a career minor leaguer and always will be.

Sure, Wood is a minor leaguer but he can play off the bench on many MLB teams.....he's proving himself now.

This team needs a feel good story with all the injuries lately.

i would love to see wood make the team..he would be a great backup and the fact that he hit during his call up and this st proves it :D

plus i think his cause is helped by the fact that boone is only hitting somewhere around .070 :thumbdown

Exactly... If spring training ends with Boone hitting .100 and Wood hitting .400, I think Beinfest has to have the balls to own up to his mistake, cut his losses, and move on.

First of all, it's spring training. Secondly, Aaron Boone could take a dump at home plate, figuratively or metaphorically (you decide), his next AB and still make the squad without a problem. They aren't going to eat $925,000.

If Wood is beating anyone out, it's going to be Cody as a bench bat or and the Marlins give CF to Borch/Cody/Amezaga in platoonsville.

Wood probably should/could have made the 25 man out of ST last year, but when he didn't even get a serious look (Matt Herges got more 2006 ST at-bats) he went ape dookie in the club-house. That lack of professionalism more than likely cost him several call-up opportunities last season. With a new manager at the helm, he very well may make the club this season.

I've got a copy of last year's BA Propsect Handbook, and there's Dan Uggla as one of the Marlins' top 30 prospects. Wood hasn't made one of these lists in a decade (if he ever did). Point is -- Uggla was 26 years old last year, Wood's 36. BIG difference. Wood's got no future.

I really don't care what the books say. More words from the "experts". I'm talking what the fans base was saying last year at this time. And if you recheck my post I am neither for him or against him. He's doing very well right now, better than most so far, so his chances of making the team are upgraded despite his age or the what nay sayers' opinions that usually inhabit sports boards with their books and stats in hand.

Boone may make the team, but not based on his recent years and ST performance. Has he earned it because he is the veteran presence? Problem I have with Boone is that although he is hitting a meager number this spring, is what he does when he does not get a hit. He whiffs, meaning no sacrifice fly, no moving a runner over etc. That is what you want from a veteran hitter when the ball is not dropping. He he can't do that, then a guy like Wood has also earned it-in my view. Boone makes the team out of spring training, but not knowing any of Wood's option issues, if any, if Boone keeps making no contact, he will be gone in a month or so.

well the way i see it...at first i was happy about getting boone...but looking at past trends he just hasnt been the ssame since his knee injury. i mean .250 is all you could hope for a bench player but still. and some has made some comments that hes wood is 37 but boone is 34 so that kinda cancels out. if you look at it from another standpoint wood might be a better leader because he has had a more difficult path to the bigs spending 17 years in the minors..that all being said the team will probably keep boone but i wouldnt be suprised if its may and boone is still hitting .200 that the fish would give him the boot and give wood a shot

I like his wifes name ... Sissy Wood

I giggled

With Sissy and Misty May-what else do you need. Not Anna Benson.

Are you kidding? Anna Benson is the entire reason Kris is worth putting up with...

You're basing your opinion on spring training and the minors and nothing more. Just thought you'd like to know that.

I dont doubt him and I'm rooting for Wood to do good.

Age shouldn't be such a big factor for bench players. Performance is what I care about. I definitely think that young players are what need to form the core of our team, but having Wood on the bench could pay off. I don't know of anybody else that has more potential to have an impact from the bench who is currently in our system, excluding Borchard.

went to the game today wood hit the ball hard everytime he put it in play , boone did nothing of note

He did have a double and a walk

That is all Wood does, it seems, hits the ball hard. That is what singled him out to me last year in his call up. There seems to be something there-why are there those who just want to rip him as nothing more than a fluke spring training (Abraham Nunez) experience. If he continues to hit, what is the problem? It can only help this team to have a consistent contact hitter.
