Should we be worried about the Marlins closer?

New game, new night tonite fellas.

Yes tonight is a new game and a new night. Time to make amends because Game 4 isn't Game 3. Tonight is Opening Night for the Marlins and there should be a packed house of Marlins fans. In Washington, it was not a packed house of Marlins fans.

As for Jorge Julio. I'll tell you one thing, velocity sure won't be a problem as he will continue to try to throw the ball through the catcher. Our catchers are either Miguel Olivo or Matt Treanor. I refuse to believe that his problems are indeed mechanical for that would make this trade even worse. Let's trade for even more of a project!

Anyway like Donnie said, it's a new night. Julio can shut me and a bunch of others up for a good 24 hours if he has a good outing tonight. Because you know all Marlins-Phillies games are close.

Yup

Yes, he can. But if Jorge comes running out for the ninth, I will have my heart in my throat. I wouldn't look except I would probably be hit with a foul ball. Oh what I wouldn't have give for an Armando Benitez deal instead.

LOL. Yea that's going to be the case for everyone watching

I'm hoping a) we don't need him because our lead is so substantial and/or b) Kranitz has spent the last day working on getting him into the mode he needs to be in.

People forget he has more to lose by underperforming than anyone this season. If his problem is mechanical (and Ramp we'll have to disagree about mechanics, we had Olsen with problems this spring, he wasn't upright enough or something, we had Willis last season for a while, pitchers like professional golfers have problems with their swings/pitching all the time. Sometimes it's the smallest thing that just gets the body or arm out of position. You think as I understand you, having a mechanical problem makes the trade worse, I think "if" that's all this is, it's fixable.) and Kranitz hasn't found a remedy, personally I'd rather hold him out *until* Kranny does.

I thought the very reason we saw so many arms used in DC was for just this eventuality. Everyone in the pen has had their first game jitters out of the way. If Julio in fact isn't available you could see two or three tonight in the ninth to close depending on the matchups. Or not. :D

We'll see.

Certainly a good observation, especially if we use more than 1 arm in the 9th. Then again, if that is the case, maybe Fredi has lost confidence in him already.

Guess we'll have to wait and see (as you said)

let see if we need him tonight and during weekend .let see if can do the job right. and we will forgive him what happen on wed

We will?

After Saturday's game I'm really worried about Julio. A closer can't come in to the ninth inning and routinely give up 2-3 runs! He gave 3 up against the Nationals and gave up 2 runs on Saturday against the Phillies.

He seems to have "good stuff" but his command is really lacking. He's walking people and getting behind in the counts. Is he overthrowing the ball because he is anxious?

I still think he can turn it around, but he made me suffer through the ninth as if we were losing the game.

I saw that Freddy had the bullpen warming up in the ninth on Saturday after he gave up the first run. I guess Freddy was suffering too.

The thing is, NO pitcher should be routinely giving up 2-3 runs every inning. By no means is that restricted to the ninth inning.

You are right, but anything terrible that happens toward the end of the game, specially the ninth inning, is magnified in importance because there is less opportunity to correct it. And if its an away game, you lose. That's the importance of a closer over the rest of the bull pen.

well after hearing Beinfest talk about Julio, I'm convinced he is the next Mariano Rivera, but better

so this is great. the marlins are up by 2 late in the game, and you KNOW julio's comming in to close it.

atleast we got a half inning after he f***s up to get back in the game.

Do u think that the manager should allow Julio to close this game if the game is close today. or should they experiment with somebody else

Should the manager allow Julio to close today

Jorge Julio just does not impress me not yet. He has SNAP AND CRACKLE BUT NO POP. I think the Marlins need to do something and do it really fast.

I think Julio is hanging from a string. Gardner came in and showed him how to do it. Next save situation I want to see Gardner or Owens in there.

Good to see that Fredi's leach was shorter today. And I believe it will be getting shorter at the next opportunity.
