Should we be worried about the Marlins closer?

Why the hell didn't they take him out when it was obvious even to a blind guy

that this guy was all over the place and seemed to wanna blow the game? What

a f***ing way to lose.

When Tank is ready, I'd rather send Julio down than Gardner. Julio's career is over. He had a good one or two seasons in Baltimore, but that was it.

This is one game. We have to give him a shot. Unless, of course, we think Nolasco is the answer. In which case I say let's make Nolasco our closer.

Why? We already made the mistake of trading for him. He has looked like sh*t in 4 outings now in Teal (albeit 2 in ST). He needs to earn his spot in the bullpen before he is allowed to close games for us.

Unfortunately, I suspect he will be closing for awhile.

Kevin Gregg for Closer!!!

You know it's bad when well before he throws his first pitch as a Marlin people are saying they don't want him. His first game as a Marlin he walks a guy and if not for a stellar double play to end the game, God only knows what would have happened. His second game, he blows a two run lead. I say we leave Julio for long relief/mop up duty. He DESERVES it!

It's April 4th - cut the guy a little slack...

The problem was he wasn't taken out. If he was taken and we still lost I would have been ok because we took the right steps.

We have to give him a shot.

Why, Julio has done nothing to earn the role. He's the starter based on his performance years ago in Baltimore. There's no way he should have the job right now when other players are pitching better and trying harder.

This is just one game and these things happen. It will happen again, I am sure, but the question is "how often?" Am I worried about the closer spot? Yes. Heck, I am a bit worried about the bullpen as a whole.

No....just the closer role.

Going into the bottom of the 9th I was praying for Owens and when I saw Julio I knew the Marlins were going to lose. Why they traded for him I'll never know. :banghead

Even though he didn't pitch well, he wasn't all that wild. He walked one guy, and its arguable that he walked him intentionally to create a force out at all bases.

He did throw some good pitches. Zimmerman's hit and the leadoff double (I think it was Belliard) were very cheap, weakly-hit, and easily could have been outs.

Also, the defense failed Julio a bit. I thought the double to left should have been a fly out, but Willingham doesn't have good range. Also, though the ball was hit hard, the line drive that Fick hit to Ramirez should have at least been knocked down and kept in front. Ramirez did not have to move a step, yet he couldn't use his body to keep it in front. That wasn't the first bad play of the game by Ramirez either; he inexecusably tried to flip the ball with his glove to Uggla a few innings before that cost the Marlins an out. Ramirez had a subpar game today; he also struck out looking in the 9th with a guy on third and no out.

I wouldn't be too concerned with Julio's performance today. He showed pretty good stuff today and decent command. Hopefully next times he gets the bounces and doesn't leave so many over the plate next time.

I know it wasn't ALL his fault, ramirez should have driven in that run in the top of the inning

but Julio definitely came out with nothing today. There was two balls that were blocked

by olivo that would have been wild pitches and would have scored runs. I just hope I

don't start regretting trading petit for this douche.

As far as Hanley goes, the glove flip was neccesity. His momentum was carrying him toward right-centerfield. If he would have planted to throw, it would have been safe regardless. And for the record, it was a bad call and should have been an out regardless. As far as the day at the plate, i'll take 3-5 every day. He SHOULD have made that play in the 9th.

As far as Julio. I stopped reading when I read "decent command."

As painful as it is to say, the Marlins HAD to leave him in. Heck, w/ the money he's making we have to see what he is made of. It's the first closing opportunity and he has to be given the chance. Well, he blew it. If Julio is not our closer, it is going to take a couple of more blown saves before he is removed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. He was brought in for that reason. If it doesn't work out w/ him, unfortunately, we're gonna have to swallow a few more blown saves before he is given the boot.

Guys, stop being ridiculous! Admin BEINFEST MADE THIS TRADE AND BEINFEST = GOD.

Obviously we stole him and crushed the world in this deal!!!!!!

I totally feel better now. :notworthy

I hope this will not happen often, or else it means that we need to look for another closer again. This was a great chance for julio to show his stuff with a 2 run lead, but he failed. Let's hope this will not happen again and that Julio will pitch better.

I hope Julio bounces back quickly. I will be rooting for him to succeed this season. It's very early and perhaps some kinks need to be worked out. We have had a great track record with closers in the past and I do not see how a little work with Julio won't turn his season around to make him a servicable closer.
