April 16, 200719 yr it's just a bad sports town, we know it. takes a lot of coddling & coaxing to build a consistent fanbase here. Don't know why Borowski felt the need to rip the town, but whatever. Who cares.
April 16, 200719 yr Maybe someone should tell Borowski and any other person to check the TV & radio ratings before they claim this isn't a good market. :|
April 16, 200719 yr What difference does it make? They are professional ballplayers. What do they care about attendance? They are still getting paid. How about commenting on something productive.
April 16, 200719 yr I never get into these attendance threads because they are stupid and pointless. But you cant say they'll never draw because this market has drawn in the past. He's speaking the truth that attendance is crap now but he cant say they'll never draw.
April 16, 200719 yr He isn't ripping sh*t. He's speaking truth people. Truth or not, he is still ripping the area. The point most people here are making is what is his point-what does that have to do with his job in Cleveland. Also, the only truth is the current and past attendance-there is no truth to giving an opinion about the unknown future. Hey, there are plenty of cities where it looked like doomsville, and Cleveland is right at the top, and somehow those down and out cities turned it around.
April 16, 200719 yr Good to see Borowski show his gratitude to the Marlins and the town for reviving his mordibund career.
April 16, 200719 yr 1. New Stadium 2. Consistant commitment to winning 3. Time for natural born Marlins fans to grow into adults exactly
April 16, 200719 yr A diehard fanbase takes 30 years to grow. When there are three generations of Marlins' fans out there, attendance will grow at games.

Hey, there are plenty of cities where it looked like doomsville, and Cleveland is right at the top, and somehow those down and out cities turned it around. Since I took the time to check-attendance in cleveland 1985-1993 was 8,000 in 1985 ( in a 80,000 seat stadium), up to a whopping 15000 in 92. Year before the Jake it jumped to 26,888, as people were getting in line not to be left out. Maybe knowing there would not always be a good seat available had something to do with it. I may be the eternal S. Florida optimist, but why not-
April 16, 200719 yr 1. New Stadium 2. Consistant commitment to winning 3. Time for natural born Marlins fans to grow into adults exactly I think this is the biggest issue...once this happens, we'll start having a really strong fan base! Yay for graduating and making money!!!

April 16, 200719 yr The point most people here are making is what is his point-what does that have to do with his job in Cleveland. The reference to why he made that point was that the Indians and Angels playing in Milwaukee outdrew the Marlins and Brewers playing in Dolphin Stadium. That is relevant to his job in Cleveland and the question was probably referenced as to what it must have been like being the "home team" in Milwaukee. Further, in reference to someone who pointed out what the cost of the ticket were in Milwaukee that weekend ($10.00 - by the way to watch the game). That still doesn't strengthen your point about why they outdrew there. The weather in Milwaukee was horrible last week and they still drew almost 20,000 to see two different AL teams. It only rained down here on one day of the series. If you were to have, let's say, the Royals play the A's at Dolphin Stadium for a series and the tickets cost $10.00, you'd still only get about 4,000 out there. Just face it, this is not a "baseball town." As much as I hate to admit it, football here is King (just listen to the pathetic local sports radio when they actually talk sports and not when they're on their classic ten minute commercial breaks!) and the only topics that generate calls are Dolphins mini-camp, Dolphins free-agents, Dolphins draft, Dolphins QBs, etc. etc. etc. Also, the "generational" thing doesn't cut it, because the Dolphins can't sell out playoff games and they've been here for over 40 years! The deal is that people here would rather sit at home and watch it on TV and then go out to the stadium because it becomes an "it" thing to do. Excluding the diehards that are here, there aren't just enough "diehards" out there to have good attendance, which is most dependent on season ticket sales rather than walk-ups, and the numbers down here are putrid.
April 16, 200719 yr Dolphins do just fine with attendance. Someone find me a link where it says the last 2 Dolphins playoff games were blackout. B/c I could have sworn I wathced those games on TV.
April 16, 200719 yr I could care less about what a guy who gets paid millions of dollars to throw and catch a baseball has to say about the attendance or any topic. They are like race horses to me.

December 30, 2000 vs. Indianapolis Colts LINK January 2002 vs. Baltimore Ravens LINK ...and Dolphins attendance is a mirage when you take into account that it seems like every week CBS4 or WSVN-7 have to "guarantee" that the remaining tickets will be sold in order for the blackout to be lifted!

December 30, 2000 vs. Indianapolis Colts LINK January 2002 vs. Baltimore RavensLINK I could have sworn that one company bought the tickets for the Colts game so it could be broadcast, because I remember watching that game (can't believe that was 7 years ago).
April 16, 200719 yr the colts game was blacked out, because i went to pearl's (i believe) music on us1 near sunrise (where the hustler store now is) and bought tickets like the day before the game to attend it while some of my other friends had to listen to it on the radio damn, that seems like yesterday
April 16, 200719 yr My only issue is with him calling it a disgrace, like there's something disgraceful about the people down here because they don't want to visit Dolphins Stadium and watch a baseball game. It's a disgrace when people don't show up to the polls on national election day. It is not a disgrace if they don't go to baseball games. Players down here need to try not to treat the low attendance as an insult.

Is not like people are getting paid to go to a game or being late for work. It is entretainment and not obligation for God's sake
April 16, 200719 yr And we care about what Borowski says why? Don't miss the guy one bit. Way overrated.
April 16, 200719 yr And we care about what Borowski says why? Don't miss the guy one bit. Way overrated. i agree...and really...do you think a new stadium, where we were guarenteed of baseball everyday would hurt our attendence? if you do...ive got a hope diamond to sell you
April 16, 200719 yr And we care about what Borowski says why? Don't miss the guy one bit. Way overrated. Exactly. Who really cares what past players think. We helped him get a nice contract from Cleveland and let's move on. BTW. Your sig rocks :thumbup
