While that may be the case, to be apart of a medical staff for a professional sports team, you aren't just some shlub off the streets.

Yeah but it Loria is cheap he can get some schlub from a 3rd world doctor factory to be the team physician. I wouldn't put it past him to do that either. He'd rob his own mother of her last dime if he could.

WHY WOULD HE WANT HIS TALENT ON THE SHELF?

oh right, because this way he won't have to pay them in arbitration

YAWN.

I never said he WANTS them on the shelf...but he is willing to cut corners so that it puts the health of the players in jeopardy of getting the best preventative health care.

Look at the coaching staff.....when he loses Perry Hill he replaces him with Andy Fox. Fox is CHEAP, so he was hired, instead of going out and spending some money on a coach with a nice long resum?.

The people on this board just don't want to see the truth and that is Loria is a BAD owner.

This is funny

Who did you want as the 1B coach on such short notice?

Look I don't like Loria either, but he isn't this bad

I agree, I do not like Loria, but the team still flys jets, the whirlpool works and the food is good-fair is fair.

If it were the Yankees do you think they would have hired Andy Fox ? No they would have gone out and gotten wheover was the next best, damned be the cost.

haha... what is wrong with Andy Fox anyway?

I'll bet they fly economy class. And I know you guys think I am being a troll with this.....maybe I am but I LOATHE Loria, and I think him capable of anything short of murder, and if he can get away with that he would.

I'm just in a pissy mood today and Loria is an easy target.

Yeah, it couldn't have to do with the fact that Andy Fox was a disiple of Perry Hill, and the fact that almost every coach within all orginizations are "home grown"

3rd world doctors. Like the one who turned Magglio Ordonez into the Incredible Hulk.

And the ones that are the alleged conspirators in the foiled London bombings, and the one in Scotland ???

Are you comparing Magglio Ordonez's knee surgeon and 3rd world doctors to alleged terrorists?

Dude, no wonder the Tigers are so good. Ken Williams obviously took Magglio's death threat seriously and tanked his team in the central. Mark Shapiro is a true patriotic American though, and has chosen to fight the mutated RF of the Detroit Tigers for division supremacy.

They most certainly do not fly economy class

what do you think this is Major League?

Wait... The Marlins don't fly the plane with the taped up prop?

No he probably makes them work as Flight Attendants on the flights to pay for the cost of flying :p

And if you truly believe Loria hired less than a great medical staff you are off your rocker. Hate all you want on Loria, and it appears you do, the man still wants to make money. And he can't make money if his talent is on the shelf.

Gotta use your head, man.

Dude, he makes money hand over fist with the revenue sharing, he doesn't make squat with ticket sales. He gets his money no matter who is playing for the team. If he ran all A-AA players out there he would still make a ton of money. And from what I have seen of him so far, he's capable of doing that.

Loria may be a cheapskate but he is also a baseball fan. He wants to win and win bad. Why on Earth would he purposely have Olsen, Johnson, Owens, KMart, Sanchez, Nolasco, Jacobs, Boone, Cabrera, Hermida, and even Sean West on the shelf?

That makes no sense, man.

I don't say he did it on purpose, but he cut back on training staff, so and gambled that we wouldn't have injuries, so he can save some money. Its well known he keeps a smaller staff than most other MLB franchises, maybe even THE smallest. I read it in The Sporting News last year in one of the issues. They were comparing MLB Orgainiaztions and of course the Marlins were # 30 of 30. The WORST organization and one of the complaints in the story was that Loria cut back on almost every area of the team, including the office staff. Loria is CHEAP. And he's getting away with it, and pocketing MILLIONS a year having a bargan-basement staff & players. He force Beinfest to get rid of the players we have now starting next year, when they have to start their arbitration years. He'll force us to do this as long as he is the owner.

Its such a conumdrum....a totally dichotomy. I love the Marlins but I hate the ownership fircely !

You left out Billy The Marlin. Don't you recall Loria fired Billy The Marlin and then rehired a guy who would work cheaper.

Dude....your act is getting old. You need to stop turning threads from the subject at hand into a Loria bash. Most of us here don't care much for Loria, but your troll-like behavior is making us defend the guy against your ridiculous posts.

((((SIGH))))) I guess so, but I am having a bad day and like I said Loria is an easy target. If i could I would blame global warming on him :cool

Loria is personally responsible for Miggy's jammed left shoulder. He knocked Miggy on his ass for costing him $7MM+ this season - the thought is that if he's hurt he won't play as well and, thus, won't cost the Marlins as much next season. He is also personally responsible for Olsen's stiff upper back - he did that so he could save a few bucks in arbitration in a year and a half.

These are some of the most difficult ridiculous comments I've seen on this forum for awhile. With all of this nonsensical rambling toward the ownership you are starting to sound like Orioles fans.

The Marlins' team physician is Daniel Kanell MD. He is the team physician of the Miami Dolphins and apparently used to be the physician for the Boston Red Sox. He is an orthopedic surgeon from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, which is considered by the NIH to be among the best orthopedic schools in the country. He is more than qualified to be taking care of our Marlins. Why is it that whenever an injury happens, the player is the last one to be blamed despite the fact they are the most likely to hide an injury from the trainers or slack off with their conditioning?

It is an absolute disgrace to this forum that you are slandering Dr. Kanell's name and dragging him through the mud just to accommodate your petty dislike of our present ownership. I'm sure that Loria travels to every ballpark in the country because he enjoys his players wrenching in pain right before his eyes.

His son is Danny Kannel, former QB for the Semi-Whores, as a Florida Gator I believe he shouldn't be allowed to practice.

You are a horrible conspiracy theorist. Nothing you've made up so far has any ground what so ever.

Because no franchise could have this much an 8-ball on them unless its been designed that way. Every time we think there is a glimmer of hope, it gets dashed. 3 owners and 2 firesales, with a 3rd one looming on the horizon in 2009.

would you rather be a cubs fan? and while that is a cop out argument...we are one of the most successful franchises in baseball in the last 20 years(on the field) and you have to give loria some credit for that...

Continuity >>>>> Flashes in the pan

The Marlins were one of the worst teams of the 1990s. Now they are one of the 'average' teams of the 2000s.

The Braves, Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, and maybe even the Giants and A's should be considered the most successful franchises of the last 20 years.

All of the credit for 1997 goes to Huizenga and Dombrowski. The Loria regime deserves maybe a quarter of the credit for the 2003 season. Most of the credit for that season goes to Dombrowski.

another good post Mr.Festa

As high as Wayne H (and Loria to a much lesser extent) brought the organization up in the eyes of fans, they then subsequently drove the team under the ground.

And the recovery process is slow and tedious. You have to wonder how many ups and downs can this fragile fanbase handle?

All-time record is 1083-1207 according to Baseball Reference dot com. That's not really successful. We have yet to win an NL East Pennant, and for that matter to ever finish ahead of the Atlanta Braves. We have finished in last place 3 times, next to last 4 times and 3rd place 3 times, 2nd place twice, and are in 4th place for most of the present season. How does that translate to "one of the most successful" ???? Just because we won 2 World Series ? That counts for a lot yes, but to claim the Marlins are one of the most successful, no way.

Contrast that to the Arizona Diamondbacks, with a 775-773 all time record, who have won their division 3 times, and have one 2nd place finish and 1 WS Championship and just 2 last place finishes, in just half the time the Marlins have been around.

Certainly there are teams that have been worse, Tampa we all know, and of course the Cubs are infamous for their futility, but other than those two and Kansas City, you can say just about every other team has been a 1st place team at one time during the Marlins existance, yet the Marlins have yet to do it once. And my money would be on this NOT being the year we break that record.

Hell all I want now from this season is a 3rd place finish in front of Atlanta, because I believe that is the only real obtainable goal, and that may be asking more than this team is able to produce. Pretty humbling when you realize it all isn't it ?

The first place thing is not a fair comparison. One team besides the Braves has finished in first place in the NL East during the Marlins existence. Remember, the Braves won 14 straight NL East titles.

You have to wonder how many ups and downs can this fragile fanbase handle?

Hasn't that already been answered with the attendance we have seen the last 2 years ? The fanbase was there at one time. We drew 3 million in 1993 for a very very bad team. Drew well in 1994 as well. And drew over 2 million 3 other times in the franchise history. But the last 2 seasons have shown, that the fanbase has been almost ireversably disenfranchised. Its not that they root for other teams, even we see that attendance for Mets games, Met fans don't show up in the numbers they used to either. I think MLB, Bud Selig and especially Loria have ruined the fanbase here forever.

Taking away the All-Star Game in 1999 was for a lot of people the last straw. I know of friends who were casual Marlins fans....would go to a game here and there, but really wanted to see the All-Star Game. Selig pulled the game out from under us, and then vowed to never hold the game here until a stadium was built. That is a form of blackmail, and is just not the way to treat fans. Those casual fans friends of mine.....not one has ever been back to see a Marlins game in the last 8 years. They vowed to never go again, and they have stuck by their word, even during the 2003 playoff run.

The first place thing is not a fair comparison. One team besides the Braves has finished in first place in the NL East during the Marlins existence. Remember, the Braves won 14 straight NL East titles.

Sure it is........all teams start out with the same chance to win the pennant. You have to want it, and your organization has to show the willpower to put together a team that can do it. Schurholz in Atlanta has shown that resolve time and time again. Marlins management was never interested in winning, or they would have pursued more good FA's to combat Atlanta.

What is wrong with you? SERIOUSLY!

The Marlins brought in Pudge, they went after Clemens (that same year), they brought in Delgado, they signed Lowell and Castillo. They brought in Armando Benitez.

Marlins management has no interest in winning. That's the dumbest f***ing thing I have ever seen written on this board.
