July 15, 200719 yr Hell of an outing Sergio! Congrats on your first ever win at home. :notworthy Nice HRs by Miggy and Hammer. Win tommorow and take the series.
July 15, 200719 yr Was alright, was exciting, but win two and a row (at home no less) and we'll talk.
July 15, 200719 yr Great to be back in the win column and looking to take the series with hopefully a good outing by scottie.
July 15, 200719 yr WE WON! We don't have to blame anyone for a loss! :Clap :Clap :Clap Hermida's HR was LARGE. They're getting ready to discuss Samson's Ichiro comments on BBTN. :|
July 15, 200719 yr Mitre allowed, what 5 balls to the outfield all night and 3 true flyballs? Hell of a job. Also, now that their averages are near identical, can we seriously start discussing a Hermida-Uggla lineup shift?
July 15, 200719 yr Uggla does need a wake-up call, Hermida has been hitting like gangbusters. Not a bad idea to switch them swift
July 15, 200719 yr Uggla does need a wake-up call, Hermida has been hitting like gangbusters. Not a bad idea to switch them swift It's not even about a wakeup call, Uggla can continue to slug until his heart's content, and be a run producer lower in the lineup. It's good for the lineup too.
July 15, 200719 yr ...because, to me, it seems as if Uggla's tried so many different approaches in the 2 hole. When Hanley's going good, Uggla's trying to hit behind him in the noble 'get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in' mold. That's fine and dandy, but that's not his game. It seems to me that Fredi's apprehensive to put a hit-and-run on with Uggla when Hanley's on, I have no idea if that's managerial philosophy or player dictating the calls. Conversely, Hermida seems to be Fredi's favorite hit-and-run guy. Now, I realize that's due in large part to a manager hoping to kick-start a player who may be being overly selective, but just from my view of the team, there are three guys you can count on to hit a fastball hard, and the other way, in a fastball count*...Hanley, Cabrera and Hermida (I say fastball count generally when the hitter is ahead, or the pitcher is facing a 2-2 count). Letting Hermida do the hit-and-run thing in the 2 hole is good for Hanley, it's good for him, it's good for Cabrera. Even if that value may be overstated, just in a very simplistic sense, having a lefty in the two hole opens up the basepaths for Hanley as Hermida obstructs the catcher's view of 1st base just being in the batter's box. Even if that buys Hanley just an extra step, that's all he needs...as we saw tonight, even bad jumps result in bang-bang plays at second base. As for Uggla, he can hit .250 with 25 HR's 6th and have a ton more value to the team. If he makes an out, so what, it's minimized in the lower half of the lineup, and generally speaking, our second best "pure" slugger is a guy you want 5 or 6. Since the 5 hole leads off more innings than anyone outside of the leadoff man over the course of a season, Willingham's best suited for 5, leaving Uggla 6. Now, allow the "nintendo generation" jokers to have at it.
July 15, 200719 yr great game. I almost caught the Hermida homerun. I've been sitting in RF the past couple game.....love it. Today in BP I got 3 baseballs...after the game I got 12 autographs (4 willingham).................awesome time today. Mitre was really sittin' them down and shut my national crazy cousin up. thank god.
July 15, 200719 yr Good game, Mitre really pitched well. 3 HR and Willingham finally got a HR against a lefty this year.
July 15, 200719 yr Beautiful win. I took my sister to he first baseball game before she moves away and she really got into it. With the 3 homers right at the beginning, the awesome pitching by Mitre, and the 1-2-3 save at the end, it was the perfect game to take her to. Plus, Smash Mouth afterwards was awesome. Thank you Mitre, that's why your my Captain.
July 15, 200719 yr Nice HRs by Miggy and Hammer. and Hermida. He couldn't hit the ball farther? What a worthless cancer. :mischief
July 15, 200719 yr Nice HRs by Miggy and Hammer. and Hermida. He couldn't hit the ball farther? Worthless cancer. :mischief Yeah, seriously, 2 for 4. With 2 K's? Should have cut that jerk before the break.
July 15, 200719 yr Hell of an outing Sergio! Congrats on your first ever win at home. :notworthy Nice HRs by Miggy and Hammer. Win tommorow and take the series. Kinda surprised that was his first win at home. Mitre is having a great season so far. This is the guy I saw in ST and said he was looking real good, while others here bashed me for saying it while they sat at home on their butts and looked at stats. And I think I heard on the radio during the drive home that this was the first time a starter has gone into the 8th inning since Mitre did it waaaayyyy back in May. Great job and the pen needs to thank him.

I definitely am with you Swift... and we should probably do this immediately as Hermida is really going so well right now. I know it's only 11 games but we're halfway through July and here is Hermida's line... .353 / .421 / .676 / 1.097 3 HR 7 RBI

Of course the horse manure that is this post above ignores Uggla's real problem which is mechanical, not psychological but then again the author's own deeply disturbing problems in that area may explain the theory. While Uggla may be frustrated by his performance lately it's his approach at the plate that is at the root of the problem. That said I'm not again moving him down and I'm hoping Hermida has hit rock bottom and has started taking the game seriously instead of taking the lackadaisical approach he's displayed at various times this season because we are so much a better team with a productive Jeremy Hermida than without.
July 15, 200719 yr Way to go Sergio, he looked really good out there and continues to be the ace for now. Its amazing that he's only .500 with a sub 3.00 ERA.
July 15, 200719 yr I don't want to hear any more "lard-ass" comments about an obviously slimmed-down Cabrera :mischief , not after making that slow-roller play last night (and who's been doing it with consistently lately.)

Jeez, you are an angry person, huh? Try to keep it on topic, please. Nobody wants to read your vitriol aimed at Swift. Uggla's problem is that this is who he is, and this is actually quite a lot of production from the 2nd base position, judging by the fact that he's on pace for a 9.0 WARP3 for the season, which is higher than Jeff Kent's 2005 (When he had 30 homers, 100 runs and 105 RsBI). Uggla's a damn productive player despite his low batting average. He is helped by walking like 7% of the time, which is an above average rate, and his great power. Uggla is one of the players we don't really have any reason to worry about, as he's matching his production from last year (although he does seem to be going at it a bit differently.) As for Hermida hitting rock bottom, these are his stats for July, posted like 2 posts above yours: .353 / .421 / .676 / 1.097 3 HR 7 RBI

Hermida's got half as many AB's as anyone of consequence on the team and he's 7th in walks. For the remainder of the season, he should be top-3, assuming he's healthy. Conversely Uggla's power output should be greater than Hermida. I mean, it's just so overly simple, would you rather have a walk happen before a home-run, or would you rather have a home-run happen before a walk? There's no lineup protection hocus-pocus to believe that Uggla couldn't hit elsewhere in the lineup. He hit in front of Hanley, now he's struggling in front of Miggy. Uggla is what Uggla is and that's a .250 slugger. That has tons of value to a team, but it's almost a detriment in the 2 spot.

I'm sure Uggla will hit another hot streak and run his average up above .250 sometime soon, but he's definitely better suited to a #6 spot. As has been said, it's just who he is.
July 15, 200719 yr Last night was a lot of fun and good to be at a Saturday home win. I believe that was only our 3rd Saturday win at home. We usually get the best turn-outs on Saturdays but wins are rare lately and that's a shame. Obviously our home record is just bad this year but last season our Saturday home win record was quite crappy too.
