It's sad, because we are better than several of those teams ahead of us. Especially Washington, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Fran, and Houston. Unfortunately we haven't been playing better than them, and recently we have been getting beat up by several of those teams.

I am not sure how fair it is to say "we are better than..." but, "we haven't been playing better". As much as I hate the way the Fish are performing, if they are not playing better than ther others, they simply cannot be seen as being better.

What we as fans want the team to be and what it is, unfortunately are two different things. Frankly I think the Nationals' organization has put together a very interesting team that will result in more off-season trade options than we have. I congratulate them. I'm happy for them.

 

That doesn't mean I'm not a Marlins fan through and through or that I am envious or dispirited. Things are what they are. Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Next season could see a complete reversal for the Marlins. Nor does it mean that the Nats GM or better than the Marlins'. Who knew da Meathooks would have the year he had or any number of other players would be playing at this level based on their past performances? While not fun for us (Marlins fans) it is what makes baseball "fun". The Nationals are respectable again. I say good job.

The funny thing is last season when they were really bad in the beginning, Loria kept coming out and saying that this team isn't as bad as every body is making them. Now that its this season and they are really terrible, not a peep from him. Can't say I'm surprised either way.

D-Rays might catch us but I doubt we fall behind the White Soxs and Orioles (I realize we're currently behind the O's but I think we'll pass them. No Bedard = uh oh). I think they'll be 1-2, then some mix of the Pirates, Nats, us, and D-Rays for the next few spots.

He's too busy cashing his revenue check at a bank in the French Riviera or some obscure Pacific Island.

So with the addition of Wily Mo Pena, can we please go after Ryan Church? He's like, the perfect platoon partner for Cody. His line this year against RHP: .275/.343/.465/.808, and is a nice defender.

 

The Nats have a crowded OF. Next year they'll have Pena, Kearns, Young (If Nick Johnson can actually stay healthy). You have to believe that Langerhans will go back to '05/'06 form, Kory Casto might be ready by next year. Bowden doesn't seem to put any stock in OBP (See: Christian Guzman), so you might have to add Nook Logan to that list. Supposedly Bowden is also looking to sign a middle-of-the-order bat this offseason, and when you considering that they're already set at first and third, that means that it's gotta be an OFer.

 

Several guys are going to be the odd men out and I'd love to see us jump on Church. He won't even be arbitration eligible next year, he'll be hitting arbitration the same time as most of our guys.

Trust me they will win 70 games this year. Next year they go on a tear and win 88-92, and win the wildcard, maybe even the division.

You never know what will happen. Maybe Bud selig was here last week to look into what is really going on with Loria. Maybe if Loria doesn't get a deal done now that the Hurricanes are leaving Miami, Selig will get Loria out of here, and bring in another owner.
