Marlins Firing Pitching Coach

Featured Replies

What about Fox? We need to dump more than Kranitz. I mean, seriously, there are justifications for our pitching. NONE for our crap defense!

Nope, they're not in the way of Jeff Loria.

Mazzone would be too expensive

He earns about 450,000 per year. That's not the reason why I don't see him coming down here though, the reason why he won't come down here is because he moved to Baltimore to be closer with his family in Maryland. Him and Sam Perlozzo are also best friends so you can erase the idea of Mazzone coming down here from your heads.

Perlozzo was fired by Baltimore earlier this season and there are rumors that the O's dont expect Mazzone back next year.

good call Spike on thinking it was Mitre who said that quote (which is now gone)

anyway, I'm going to call Mrs Wiley (Mark's wife) Wednesday after class to see what's going on with him... I'll get that report to you then :disco

What's Alex Fernandez doing these days?

Spending his afternoons at All You Can Eat Buffets.

Whatever you do dont sleep with her. Wiley wont take this job if the Marlins real beat writer is doing his wife.

Either that or she'll have an incentive to keep Wiley in South Florida.

haha :mischief

FINALLY!!!

Something good happened :D

Maybe you missed Hanley turning into, arguably, the best overall player in MLB (please understand I'm talking age, position, salary, and production).

And the flat footed-uninspired-whiff machine in RF, who plays defense worse than Junior Felix NOW, has a .928 2nd half OPS.

But yes. This is probably good news. Here's to Dontrelle throwing with reckless abandon in his delivery next year. Sadistic, but when his eventually arm blow out happens, it won't be here. Raise that trade value D-Train!

remember when everyone wanted to keep d-train in teal for his entire career? lefty workhorse hes still going to get a huge contract on the open market even if he does have an era in the high 4s

The Marlins next year are once again expected to go with a young staff, and Beinfest says he is looking for a pitching coach who is good at teaching. "We feel that's very important with young players," Beinfest said. "In looking ahead to '08, and we're going to continue with a relatively young roster, I think you need a good teacher."

Maybe someone who's had personal success as a big-league pitcher? Hence the Alex Fernandez comment earlier....Kevin Brown....Al Leiter....maybe sign Clemens as player/pitching coach... :D

Be reminded of the old saying, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

Being a good salesperson does not mean you're guaranteed to be a good sales manager. Maybe Alex Fernandez or Al Leiter or fillintheblank can translate their experience into what Beinfest is looking for but I suspect he'll look to someone who has been a successful "teacher" first and a major league star second.

if they've impressed enough to make it to the bigs, chances are they dont need to be taught how to pitch again once they get here...

The article on FloridaMarlins.com says Kranitz was invited back, but declined as he wanted to pursue other opportunities.

Then thanks for saving us from ourself Rick!

You've got to be joking me right? Look at what they gave him to work with asshats. He was Baseball America's Coach of the Year last year for the entire

league. $5,000 raise? Is that a joke? Why even offer a raise? He was already the lowest paid pitching coach in baseball. To offer a $5k raise is an insult.

He's 2 years into the major league level and decides to explore his other options....What does that tell you about the Florida front office? Must not be a great

group to work with if you ask me. Look for Kranitz to reuinte with Girardi wherever he ends up. I realize it was a trainwreck of a year but I don't blame him.

We've got pitchers that prioritize partying and going out every night over pitching. That's the real problem. Loria and Beinfest are fools for letting this guy go.

Kranitz is going to be a consultant for Dr. James Andrews' Office of Productivity.
